I am picking nits, but Golden State and Toronto paid $50mm in 2023 and Portland paid $75mm in 2024. The latest 3 were $250mm, so it is around $925mm. Agree, though, the influx should offset the dilution. To date, the business has been a financial loser, so a 3x increase in franchise fees, YoY seems high. People far more in-tune and aware are putting money into it right now. So, what do I know?

The genocide in Gaza continues: 32 yesterday; 60+ today. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/20/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-military-evacuation.html Israeli forces killed and wounded dozens of Palestinians on Sunday in the northern Gaza Strip, after crowds gathered near a crossing from Israel to try to seize aid from United Nations trucks entering the enclave, according to the Gaza health ministry and health workers. The episode was the latest in a string of deadly shootings as hunger and desperation have gripped Palestinians in Gaza during Israel’s nearly two-year campaign against Hamas. The latest attack took place near the Zikim crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel. More than 60 people were killed while seeking aid in northern Gaza on Sunday, according to the health ministry and Mohammad Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. A field hospital operated by the Palestine Red Crescent Society in northern Gaza was flooded with gunshot victims from the episode near Zikim. The hospital received two of the dead and more than 100 wounded, said Nebal Farsakh, a spokeswoman for the Red Crescent. Israeli soldiers fired “warning shots” after thousands of Gazans gathered in the area, the Israeli military said in a statement. They had opened fire to “remove an immediate threat posed to them,” it added, but did not specify the nature of the threat. The Israeli military also said that the reported number of casualties did “not align” with its initial review, but it did not provide an alternative toll. The military was continuing to examine the episode, it said. The United Nations’ World Food Program said in a statement that a convoy of 25 trucks carrying food for Palestinians was entering northern Gaza when it “encountered massive crowds of hungry civilians which came under gunfire.” The agency said it was “working with authorities to gather more details about the incident.” Chaos has dominated aid distribution in Gaza amid widespread hunger in the territory. Israeli soldiers have repeatedly opened fire near huge crowds of desperate Palestinians heading to sites run by American contractors for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a private and controversial Israeli-backed group, according to witnesses and the Israeli military. At least 32 people were killed on Saturday after Israeli soldiers began shooting near a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation site in southern Gaza, according to the Gaza health ministry. The episode on Sunday did not occur near one of the foundation’s sites.

When they speak of a loss of $40 million, will that be repaid? Is the league in debt or are the investors just covering losses? If so, do the investors who have lost a quarter billion over the history of the league expect to recoup those losses or is this new TV deal in a vacuum that ignores prior losses and starts their balance sheet at zero each fiscal year?

Saw the final episode of Vera this week. Took me awhile to get around to it, but it ended in a really good place. Brenda Blethyn is such a great actress and that she was still doing this show while approaching 80 is pretty cool. I kind of hope they might think about doing with this show what they did when Inspector Morse ended way back when and make a show about the co-star. The cast all work well with each other so I'm in if they decide to do it. The next to last episode of Vera had Kevin Whately in it as a retired DI. Whately was the co-star in Inspector Morse and later the star of Inspector Lewis. I didn't recognize him at first as he was 10 years older than when I last saw him. Kinda cool to include him though at the end of Vera's run.

Freaking bro dozers. I feel sorry for him. Poor dude not only has a micro manhood, but he advertises that fact for the whole world to know. Now everybody knows he’s a hermaphrodite. And he has to live with that every day.

Expansion fees for each team were 250 million in this latest round of expansion (6 clubs total). That 1.5 billion should easily offset whatever dilution to TV revenue the original 12 are about to experience.
