  3. hays County Sheriff Office emergency alert just woke us. Shelter in place, I am told. I guess I see the value in this, but I am going back to sleep. Don’t make me put hands on the shotgun.

  8. Damn. That is tough, I can't imagine losing my best friend or even any of my friends going back to the 70s (but fuck we're getting old so): Born Aug. 23, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV, Escobedo's group, Cleto and the Cletones, has been the house band for Jimmy Kimmel Live! since the show's inception in 2003. Escobedo and Kimmel, however, go way back. The pair hit it off as kids, when Kimmel's family moved to Sin City back in 1977, directly across the street, two houses over from a young Escobedo. Kimmel was unable to hold back the tears, and he told of his best friend's passing at the very top of Tuesday night's Live. "We've been on the air for almost 23 years and I've had to do some hard monologues along the way. But this one's the hardest," he remarked. They weren't just friends. They were 24/7 besties, enjoying countless sleepovers, crank calls, backyard ballgames, and "we definitely gave each other many concussions," he recounted. Across 22 minutes, Kimmel told hilarious tales of youthful pranks, parties, bad advice, and much more, the stuff that occurs only when two people live out of each other's pockets. "We loved all the same things. Baseball, fishing, boxing, [Muhammad] Ali, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Woody Allen, Michael McDonald, Huey Lewis, Stevie Wonder, and most of all, we loved David Letterman," he admitted. "We never missed David Letterman. And the first time I was on the [Late Show with David Letterman] was 1999. It was a really big deal for both of us. That afternoon before the show, I was so nervous. I was walking in New York City, just walking fast, trying to burn off the nervous energy, and I called him just so we could be amazed together that this was happening and it was an amazing thing."

  10. I don’t really think they care about that anymore, but right now they play on campus until they figure out how to get a bigger stadium. I would imagine that at the moment they aren’t going to bring in teams with a large fan base that will turn a home game for them into the road fans buying up all the tickets and making it feel like an away game. They need money and are far more likely to take money games from big schools. I enjoy going to their games, but their stadium is a makeshift one and smaller than almost all of the big high school stadiums in Texas at the moment.
  11. Cleto Escobedo III, 59. Jimmy Kimmel's bandleader and life long friend.
  12. But AI makes everything better…
  13. The last tank wasn’t that great in retrospect. Lively was a decent asset with Luka. Now he is pretty much a negative. He has played in half the games, hasn’t developed any kind of shot and doesn’t have a rim running partner (the only thing he can do) any more. And…he is up for a rookie extension at the end of the year, which the Mavs should not do unless the number is very low. Like 3 years, 50 million tops.
  14. I am thinking they will be glad if Kerr walks away after the season.
  15. The evil on display is maddening. FUCK YOU, GHOULS! DIAF!
  16. Peeps… this is a quick five minute cruise of what the Russian newspapers are saying about the military and financial going on in Russia. I was actually surprised at the level of negative reporting on some of it. I had not seen this person‘s channel before, but I’m going to add it to my daily viewing because it saves a bunch of time (love Inside Russia, but Konstantin is ponderous) and covers more topics than Julia Davis and her excellent Russian Media Monitor.
  17. So apparently Tucker gave Nick Fuentes a platform and it's causing a great schism in the Republican party. Also, I found this funny.
  18. Yeah, we scheduled a layup game in Vegas this season… and lost.

  21. If you can stroke the check, stroke the check. You'd likely pay more over the next 3-5 years in increased premiums, not to mention when Junior has another accident you'll run the risk of further complications such as even higher rates or general uninsurability. Used to be $3K was about where you hit the line of demarcation of where you'd likely pay that much in increased premiums, lost claim-free credits, etc. In today's market, it probably skews higher so if you can take the hit, I'd pay out of pocket and live to fight another day. Just as a reminder there is no deductible when it comes to liability. Is your car damaged? If you're going through insurance, the deductible will apply to the damage to your daughter's car only.
  22. Y'all are fucking awesome. Much appreciated.
  23. In the case of Mamdani, this is absolutely true. He's used communist rhetoric ("seizing the means of production", "Each according to their need, each according to their ability", wants government run grocery stores, etc.). His mom has said that he does not see himself as American. I'm done with cloak room posting here, but to say "none of those claims are remotely true" is ridiculous.
