Yeah, 10 mil within 30 days and 400k/mo for 2 yrs.
His success against Bama kept him here this long. His problem is losing the ones he shouldn’t have. And poor player development. And recruiting continuing to drop off. Can we have mike Tomlin?!?!?!

the above came from a buddy in Auburn

this is all insane. I love college athletics but, it’s gone full insanity

Auburn with more balls than Texas. Not afraid to pay 21.5 million buyout to try and make your program better.

Meh, letting your balls do the thinking is not a winning strategy.

Based on the rumors on here, it sounds like our leadership is fractured and not committed to the process of establishing Texas. They really need to replace our AD with someone like Ohio State’s which is committed to their program. We also need to go after competency at coaching. Not necessarily the resume’ or name. Fuck, pay Urban Meyer to consult and interview people, he could spot a winner.

Our money boys sound like they are dumbasses who struck lightning and now think they are geniuses.

But that is my interpretation of 31 flavors of hearsay or heresy.

Tim Cook went to Auburn?!?! Wut? Doubt he gives a fuck about football, but I had him pegged (😬) as a coastal university kind of guy

couple of hours at the craps table with a hot hand could pay this off.

I mean, sure. Also - Auburn has a more recent MNC and MNC appearance than Texas - and is a program with far less money and historical success.

    Not really apples to apples.

They do have a grand tradition of cheating, though.

I mean you can say all that but having conviction is necessary. Maybe auburn made a bad choice, and time will tell. But they felt the need to change the trajectory of the program and pulled the trigger. I don’t see conviction in the Texas AD or boosters and that’s a problem.

Sarkisian, Freeze, Josh Heupel, and Mario Cristobal mentioned as possibilities.

Are any of these names being thrown around really an upgrade from Gus?  Really?  Seem like a bunch of really expensive lateral moves to me.

I’ll be shocked if they don’t hire Freeze.  Assuming he’s allowed back in the league.

That football scoop article says there is nothing that would allow the conference to prevent Auburn from hiring Freeze.

Amoral Freeze to an amoral booster base and school makes perfect sense.  Him and Bruce Pearl on the same campus is the worst combo since Louisville had Bobby Petrino, Rick Pitino, and the racist pizza guy.

Outside of a Briles or Paterno situation you shouldn’t give two fucks about anything. LSU punishment out front should have told ya.

The coaches pay market has taken a significant arrow up. Schools tossing tens of millions at changing coaches with limited upside potential.

Do the bag men sucks right now or did they all quit? Surely less money could be spent at the bottom of the pyramid than is currently being poured over the top of it.

It has nothing to do with balls. It has to do with the importance of football to the institution.

Cristobal with Rodney Garner at Auburn would be like a black hole of recruiting perfidy in the southeast, sucking up all nearby recruits.

You under estimate Alabama. There is a reason they stand above the rest of the SEC.

    hahahah..

wait, i was told you couldn't fire a coach UNLESS a clear candidate was identified AND accepted the job behind the scenes.

i was told you could not fire a useless coach during covid because OPTICS.

i was told the AD had to set the athletic department in the "right direction" with some bullshit multi-year workplan before firing a useless coach.

    i was told.......aw fuck it.

GROW SOME FUCKING BALLS TEXAS.  I HAVE A FEELING CDC AND FRIENDS FOUND A WAY TO FUCK THINGS UP.

Hell, they paid six figures for Cam Newton. They're not afraid to spend.

Auburn is gonna spend a bunch of money and get a reclamation project. That program is not going to upgrade.

This is what I'm thinking.  It's a lot of money, plus pay a new coach plus potential buyout for that coach.  All the while they may hire a slight upgrade.  But it ain't my money, so don't care.

So Auburn hires Freeze, Liberty hires Art.

That timeline works out perfectly for Art to end up at Tech when they fire their current mistake in two years.

Actually, Briles might end up at Tech.....sooner than that.

An alum and former Red Raiders running backs coach, Briles has not coached in college football since 2015, but a group of moneyed boosters has loudly argued for a return to his alma mater. Just last week a prominent Baylor alum released the results of an investigation into Briles’s dismissal from Baylor, which the pro-Briles camp will argue clears the deck for his return to major college football. The 65-year-old is now the head coach at Mount Vernon High School in northeast Texas. His team lost in the Class 3A Division I semifinals on Friday. Sources confirmed to FootballScoop.com that Briles has been vetted by multiple other Power-5 programs since he exited Baylor five years ago.

They don’t have the support yet to even can their current coach., and a large portion of the fan base would riot if it happened sooner. (From Lubbock, my entire family are Raiders, and are decently connected with good info from inside the admin).

But in two years, with a rehab at Liberty, and two more years of abysmal football? There will be lots of people willing to do the “Christian thing” and give him a second chance.

I mean both are true really. There’s no guarantee they will get a better coach. It’s a gutsy move to fire a guy that has beat Saban as much as he has.

I haven't checked Nick's record at Michigan State, but I think GM has the most wins over Saban's current incarnation.

Do you credit the year GM was OC with Cam Newton?

Not if we’re defining his wins over saban as HC vs HC

    • I was bored and went through the coaching staffs for each of the remaining playoff teams.  Listed below are the coaches who seemed like possibilities to me (but I'm an idiot).  They all have some college coaching experience and in the case of one an extensive HS coaching background.  A couple of entries have pretty light resumes but have long NFL careers.

      Houston Texans:
Jacques Cesaire DL coach - 5 years at Univ of San Diego as DL coach, 9 years as DE for San Diego Chargers
      Rod Wright Asst DL Coach

      Green Bay Packers:
Jerry Montgomery DL coach -11 years in college at OU, Michigan, Wyoming.  Last 9 years in NFL

      Detroit Lions:
John Scott Jr. DL Coach - First year in Detroit.  Previously coached at Penn St., South Carolina, and Arkansas
Wayne Blair QC - Long time Florida HS head coach, spent last two years coaching DLine in Detroit.  Played at Tulane and CFL

      Buffalo Bills:
Marcus West Asst D-Line - Prior to joining Bills in 2022 spent 14 years as college D-Line coach (Charlotte, Minn, Austin Peay)

      San Francisco 49ers:
Darryl Tapp Asst D-Line - 12 year NFL veteran.  Coached D-Line at V-Tech for 2 seasons.  Joined 49ers in 2022.

    • I'm not doing well about it, at all.

That's because we had our championship window of opportunity, which is now closed.

Why? Because now we face another, more potent opponent. The Fightin' Aggies of Texas A&M University.
They have THE best traditions in all of college. Plus, they've already surpassed us in baseball and basketball. Don't believe me? Consider this recent post from TexasAgs: "We've already surpassed them in baseball and basketball."

What's more, they demonstrated an unquenchable commitment to success when they paid a coach $78 MILLION to leave. That's right. $78 million to a coach they had presented a future national championship trophy to stop coaching, and they did it mid-season without a replacement locked-in. While it seems like this is poor financial management by their athletic department, it shows a spirit of winning we could only dream about.

Now, they've brought in a coach who gets them. That's right. He EMBRACES their traditions. And he has a great nickname, The Elk, which pairs with The Station quite nicely. We don't even have an amazing nickname for our city.

      +

Finally, when you compare the two football programs, A&M comes out ahead. As many of their posters continually point out, they faced a much better Alabama team than we did AND ALMOST WON. Plus, they paid tribute to their near-win against the second-best team in the Big 12.

Now that they've moved on from many of their players from the best recruiting class of all time, and have had multiple highly ranked recruits opt out, they are ready to win even more championships with hardworking farm boys from small towns.

Thanks for indulging my meltdown. I'm skeered real good.
