  1. Alabama looked like the bigger, stronger team tonight and they probably were. They also looked like the faster team tonight and they might have been. But most importantly, Bama certainly looked like the DUMBER team tonight and they definitely were that. In a game that echoed the Sugar Bowl, an elite SEC team looked physically superior but got completely dominated. Like Georgia's Jake Fromm, Tua Tagovailoa demonstrated arm strength and accuracy but a lack of reading ability which led to bad throws and turnovers. When his team got in a deep hole, he did not have the ability to lead them out of it - again echoing the earlier match up in Nawlins. If we went back and watched their conference games, I'm sure we'd see Tua and Jake burning basic coverage schemes with simple, pre-snap reads and superior athletes catching and running with the ball. That's certainly what I saw when reviewing Georgia vs Mizzou, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky and to an extent Bama. When faced with comparable athletes running better coverage schemes, the vaunted pass efficiency numbers (Tagovailoa #1, Fromm #5) vaporized like spit in a blast furnace. Both of Tua's picks were mis-reads of the coverage. Like Fromm he mostly threw underneath the coverage or to open men in single coverage for easy reads. Clemson has excellent DL so they were able to mostly contain Bama's running game with a 6 man box and minimal games. Once they put the game on the QB's shoulders it was pretty much over. In contrast Trevor Lawrence was truly impressive in his accuracy and reads of the defense. He made some amazing throws on corner / deep out routes against zone and double coverage. His ability to sustain drives even after major penalties prevented Bama from getting the short fields their offense needed. Lawrence's passing ability was complemented by a nice ground game incorporating misdirection and a really, really good O Line. In another parallel to the Sugar Bowl, poor special teams play helped to put Bama in a hole. The missed XP them points when they had the lead. The kick out of bounds gave Clemson good field position to start their 3rd TD drive which put them in the lead for good. The pathetic fake FG when Clemson was obviously ready for it was a terrible decision and Saban should have had his offense on the field if he wanted to go for it in that situation. I think Texas did a lot of damage to the invincible SEC myth and Clemson did even more. You can hear the edifice creaking despite everything ESPN can do to prop it up. Credit Dabo and Venables. This game should give Texas fans even more hope that getting close on talent combined with superior coaching can produce top notch results.

  3. Yeah, they've found trails of discarded Qurans all the way from Veracruz to Ozona, and the MSM keeps a tight lid on the shootouts we've been having with ISIS in Eagle Pass and Del Rio. Terlingua has already fallen and all chili there now must be halal. I was shocked to have to observe Sharia law last time I was in Alpine -- I'd been told the border was secure. NATIONAL EMERGENCY

  9. Let me start by saying that Saban is arguably the greatest coach in the history of college football. With that said, I don't think anyone has ever been more fortunate as hes has been in his career. Let's take a look at his National Championships. 2003 LSU - Instead of playing the #1 team in both polls (USC) his team gets to play an OU team coming off a 35-7 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship game. Not his fault, but still a split championship that was most likely only awarded because the Coach's Poll was contractually obligated to crown the winner of the BCS as national champion. 2009 Alabama - Colt McCoy leaves the game in the first drive. True freshman Garrett Gilbert has Texas within 24-21 with the ball late in the 4th quarter before falling short. Injuries are part of the game, but another lucky break. 2011 Alabama - Does not win their own division after losing at home to LSU. Gets the championship berth over Oklahoma State, and wins a rematch against the team that won the SEC West, SEC Conference, and head-to-head match up in Tuscaloosa. 2012 Alabama - Dominates an over matched Notre Dame team as the #2 team in the BCS Championship Game. However, Ohio State completes an undefeated season and is under post season probation. Had Ohio State not appealed their bowl ban the year before, there is a 0% chance that a 1 loss Alabama team would have been selected over them or Notre Dame. 2015 Alabama - Wins the playoff over #1 Clemson in a classic. No disputing anything about this one. 2017 Alabama - Gets the 4th playoff spot despite once again, not winning their own division or conference. The fact that his teams are always in the conversation is what makes him an all time great (perhaps the greatest). However he is definitely one lucky guy that has benefited from the SEC bias.

  16. Yeah, you're right. I guess we're kind of screwed if he only recruits lights out when he's at a program with a large budget that has a lot of buzz based on recent success. Oh wait, no, I said that wrong. That sounds fucking perfect based on our situation. Thanks for your concern, Jayhawk football fan.

  17. If you don’t like how things have been gifted to Bama, and irrespective of anyone else’s counters, Saban was gifted playing OU in 2003, getting to rematch LSU in 2011 (something so absurd that it led directly to the CFP today), and sneaking them in in 2017, just wait until you look at their 2019 schedule. The SEC is a fart-huffing echo chamber where the teams play cupcakes and each other, then get bragged upon by a mouthbreathing media with no analytic skills whatsoever. Bama will benefit from that yet again next year as their big nonconference test is a neutral site game against fucking Duke.

  18. Is now a good time to bring up the Bobby Burton article that had LJH rated as the worst prospect in his recruiting class?

  21. Tangent about our govt workers who aren’t gonna get a paycheck this week: Traveled today through ABIA. TSA was fully staffed and...I did something I’ve never done before - I got distracted and left my laptop at the checkpoint. I realized when I was already on my flight. Called my office and had my secretary call TSA and track it down. They had it by mid afternoon, and said I could come get it between 8 am and 8 pm. Problem: my return flight didn’t land till 8:15. I landed and decided to run by the TSA office at 8:20 just to give it a shot. As I walk up, a woman on her phone outside asked “may I help you?” Yes, is the lost and found open? “You here for a laptop? Your secretary called.” She stayed late to wait for me to come get my laptop (that is, to fix MY screwup). And she won’t be getting a paycheck. Had to give props to one of the lazy govt leeches the GOP has such good feelings for.

  27. I don't have a problem with this final ranking. We lost 4 games, one of them being Maryland. No. 9 seems just about right. More important than final poll number, we pounded Georgia for a Sugar Bowl win to end the season. A bump up one or two spots in the poll wouldn't produced any greater momentum going into the 2019 season.

  30. Start at 23, lose to Maryland, drop out of the polls, fight back to finish 10 - 4 with a win over SEC SEC SEC and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and a top 10 ranking. What a remarkable season. Now, don't start flat again, and let's not have key players have to sit out parts of games for stupid shenanigans, and next year looks pretty good. I can't wait for next season.
