  1. My daughter has been through some shit she has no fault in, no input into and no way of avoiding. A few years back, as my divorce was just beginning I started a new tradition with her. Every year we dressed to the nines, and we will go see The Nutcracker at the Ellie Caulkins Opera house in Denver, followed by a really nice dinner at a very nice/fancy restaurant. Just got home 2 hours ago from this year's extravaganza. We giggled, and made jokes, we talked and talked, and then giggled some more, we got caught up in the magic and wonderment of Christmas, we watched a really good ballet, we giggled again, we ate like Kings/Queens, we giggled again, we went through one hell of a sugar rush, and then crashed out HARD less than 3 minutes after walking in the front door. Watching her with her little mouth agape while being caught up in the whimsy of the ballet, and seeing her hands involuntarily moving in artistic circles like she was directing the orchestra itself was absolute magic to me. Christmas long ago stopped being about the magic for myself. 9 years ago it started being about MAKING the magic for her, which of course directly translates into it being magic for me. What comes around goes around and all that. Tonight I was blessed again to be able to make some of that magic for her and with her. I pray to God that when the Alzheimers, or dementia, or whatever else comes to take my mind from me, that the last memory to leave me is the memory of tonight with my little girl.

  4. My own was December 22nd, 1983. The first four years of my life was spent living in a single wide trailer. It was 50 feet long or so. My father, a mechanic trained in Germany starting at age nine to repair Mercedes vehicles, came to the United States with my Oma and his army stepfather (A violent drunk) in 1964. Fast forward to 1977 and he had purchased 15 acres of land in my hometown. This is a true story. He bought one of those yellow DIY books and the one he bought was how to build a house. My mom still has the book. My father was a brilliant human being. For the next 6 plus years he slowly built a house. He worked 60 hours plus a week. He added to the house when he had money. 36 years ago today my parents surprised my younger brother and I by moving us into the house and had a housewarming party by inviting all of our family. It was amazing. The house was not finished, but we could live there. He had well water and electricity courtesy of the Pedernales River Electric Corp. 36 years later my younger brother is back there. He and his girlfriend turned my bedroom into a nursery for their first child, Emma Grace, who was born in February. The room is just amazingly beautiful. My mother is still there and she is retired and loving having a grandchild. My father never completely finished the house. Someone asked her why she never allowed the house to be done competely because my brother could finish everything. She said "She wanted it left just how my dad did it because it was perfect to her like that." He passed away in April 2011 and she has been adamant about the house being left alone. That memory of moving into an actual house was amazing and I love this day and look forward to it every year even though I am 1500 miles or so away. I would love to hear some good Christmas or other holiday celebration memories. This is such a fun time of year.

  6. Grateful to be sober today. The holidays are hard. There are real reasons I had to reset my sobriety date to January a couple of years ago. I won't get too specific, but the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas opens the wound of my broken heart like nothing else does, as does the worldly thought of the New Year. It is bombed into our heads that this will be the year it all starts getting better. It doesn't always get better the way I want it. I don't have an economically comfortable life, I don't have my child with me, and I don't have an idea of where I am even going to make things happen. That can be daunting and destroying if I let myself dwell, drink, or suppress it deep in my soul. That dark only gets darker when I'm not sober. There is no love on Christmas if I don't love myself, and no magic of a New Year if I'm lying to myself. It took me two tries to figure that out. I say all of that because today I have serenity, peace of mind, and a chance, even with the heavy stuff all around. I sleep at night, I'm not avoiding getting caught, and I'm fighting out of hope and not bitterness. I am building slowly instead of destroying quickly. Every problem is a little more real every day that I am sober, but I do not crash and burn like I do when I'm drinking. I am not causing mayhem, sadness, worry, or resentment for others today. I can be a gentleman to those I do not like yet must be around. In essence, I'm capable of letting go and dealing with the unpleasantness and circumstances around me without needing a substance to get me there. Sobriety does for me slowly what alcohol did for me instantly. That is a fucking miracle. The type of hope and miracle I was always looking for in a virgin birth I didn't really believe in or an arbitrary new year that just added pressure. It was sitting there in front of me for several years until I actually got out of my own way and surrendered to who I was. A guy who drank better, more, and for pain that no one else could understand. Now, the hope comes from within, by watching others recover, and a spiritual place I never knew had. That is real, I am lucky, and I am grateful.

  8. I’m not sure I want UT to hire this Yurchic guy if he’s a jerk like people are saying. Most top tier football coaches are really nice guys and that’s why they are successful. If you’ve ever met or played for a really successful big time college football coach you know that the coach is there to educate and nurture young men, not for money and power and an insatiable need to always win at everything no matter the cost.

  9. This GOP gave us Sarah Pailan, W, and Donald fucking Trump. That means even a literal piece of shit is electable. A giant turd would do a better job and be less embarrassing. But sure Elizabeth Warren is "unelectable".

  12. He may be a good kid. He’s a great talent that used Texas HS to his advantage. He’s a great player and would have been a huge get for last years class. But on the way out the door he made a ton of comments that he should have kept to himself. He became a mouthpiece for Zach Smith, Urban Meyer, Ryan Day and tOSU. And for that, I have ZERO respect for him. All he had to say was “it was a really tough choice. I love both schools and have the utmost respect for the history and traditions of both great universities. I have spent the last 5 years of my life in Austin and have grown to know and love the University of Texas. As much as I love this school, my first love was Ohio State and it’s been my dream to play there since I first started playing football. I wish nothing but the best to UT, the city of Austin, the State of Texas and all their fans, but I am committing to my first love and will be a Buckeye”. I don’t think a single fan would have said a negative thing about GW. Instead, he ran his mouth and acted like a complete asshole. So fuck him to infinity.

  13. There is no less reliable source for information than a fanbase after a coach voluntarily leaves the program. The move from Oklahoma State to Ohio State made sense - Yurcich is from Ohio and got a $150k raise. The move from Ohio State to Texas would make sense - Yurcich would almost assuredly get play-calling duties as well as another hefty raise. These conspiracy theories of him being pushed out or whatever are most likely worth what we have paid for them. There's no such thing as the perfect OC, but this dude has routinely been a part of badass offenses and would be a great hire in my book.

  14. My wife wants us (in North Dallas) to meet her Grandmother (lives in Austin) for lunch in Waco tomorrow. Not exactly fun, but grandma gets to spend time with her great grand kids. So fine, whatever. Okay, tell her we'll go to Ninfa's or Buzzard Billy's or some other kinda nice place. Get home Saturday night. "So everybody is meeting at the Cracker Barrel in Hewitt at noon." So, now I'm driving two fucking hours to eat at a god damn cracker barrel. Jesus fucking christ.

  18. Ohio State Reasons Yurich isn’t coming to Texas 1. He makes more base salary than Beck: This is so stupid, I don’t think it even deserves a reply, but I got free time. Yes, he currently makes more base salary than our fired OC. To assume Texas would offer a person less money to lure him away from his current position is stupid. 2. With incentives that may or may not be met, Yurich would make 1.5 million.: So if Texas offered 1.5 million plus incentives...let’s pause for Ohio natives to crunch those numbers...that would be more. 3. He doesn’t care about calling plays because he could become a head coach next season: (sarcastic head nod of agreement) 4. The old Tom Herman is plotting to mess with Ohio State during the playoffs reason: Jesus Christ I need to get into the 9.95 business, there is so much stupidity. You can smear feces all over your customers faces, and those dumb fuck baboons smile and ask for more. 5. Texas is a dumpster fire: okay that’s a legit reason.

  19. "Laziness". A world I don't recall reading in the OIG report or during any of the testimony. What I do recall was an exchange that characterized it as either, on the one hand, gross incompetence, or on the other, intentional misconduct. And further the explicit refusal to declare that bias was not the explanation. Now one would expect that simple gross incompetence would occasionally break both ways, and given a sufficient period of observation would largely balance out. Non-differential laziness, even, should break both ways some time. Didn't happen in this case. Every single error, misstatement, and omission identified broke in the same direction, 17 times in a row. Quite the pattern. One might call it systematic. Might even suggest it reflects, at an absolute minimum, an institutional bias inherent to the system. The application to surveil Page hinged on the Steele Dossier. I am not sure how many more times I can quote the "central and essential" part or clip the testimony on this thread. But clearly I am the one who cannot possibly comprehend the process. Maybe I left a few parts out. Let me restate, a "former foreign spook, working through a lawyer screen, under contract to an American political party, collecting and packaging up gossip from Russians, passing it off to the FBI, State Department and media sources, and sending them all down a fantastical rabbit hole. Oh, and who was at the same time also working for a Russian oligarch who happened to be a subject of the CH investigation." Thanks for the opportunity to clarify. "Exemplary". Another word I don't find in the OIG report or the testimony to Congress. I think what you meant was "horseshit interspersed with open source intelligence". We determined that prior to and during the pendency of the FISAs the FBI was unable to corroborate any of the specific substantive allegations against Carter Page contained in the election reporting and relied on in the FISA applications, and was only able to confirm the accuracy of a limited number of circumstantial facts, most of which were in the public domain, such as the dates that Page traveled to Russia, the timing of events, and the occupational positions of individuals referenced in the reports. It is amazing how hard it is for some of you to eradicate the brain worms.

  20. The little dude has had enough I think. We moved this week so he’s missed more than a few of his naps. He wanted to lay down but I kept getting up to take care of stuff, so he just sat there and stared the last time I sat down like he was trying to make a point.

  22. Last night I got the text that I was one of the high bidders for GTS at a local shop. I’d offered $305. When I get there today some confusion ensued as they thought they’d already delivered my bottle because someone with the same first name came to claim it today. Anyway, after a brief but somewhat tense conversation they figure out the issue. Fortunately they had an extra bottle that they let go for about retail ($140) since I took the Kentucky Owl off their hands too (also for about retail $280). Both are for consumption but feels like quite a deal considering the secondary prices for each. Merry Christmas...

  23. Doomlet is four years old, so this isn't likely to be the last perplexing pick out of him. He's won my weekly NFL Pick 'Em twice so far this season, and I eventually talked him out of picking #16 seed UMBC from upsetting #1 UVA last year, so I pretty much just stay out of his way and let him pick whatever he wants...

  25. Weird how when the government let the free-market run itself without regulation and oversight, we had a retail economy built on sweatshops and child labor, companies refusing to offer goods and services to people based on their skin color, and free-reign to pollute and destroy the environment (which they happily did because it was cheaper.) Sound like a real bang-up model you got there chief!

  28. Reddit ranks right up there with twitter in my book. The intellience level of posters, the depth of analysis, the patience and rationality all rival throwing a bag of dog shit in a blender without a lid and pushing “liquefy.” i would put surly in the same category, but this place vacillates between “I’m gonna fucking kill you!” and “I love you, man!” depending on the average B.A.C.

  30. Looks like a good coach, spent six year as OC for a pretty productive Big12 offense, then passing game coordinator for one of the best offenses in the country, but lemme go to reddit right quick to see what the pissed off fans of the school he's ditching have to say before having an opinion about it. Then lemme make sure he was never at one point an asshole like 99% of successful corches, yez? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  37. I would be so thrilled with Yurcich. If that dude could get our running game even 1/2 as competent as Okie State's has been for the last decade, it would drastically improve our team. Not to mention how aggressive oSu always is with wide open deep shots. No more derping down the field throwing to the sticks on 3rd and 7. Get ready for Brennan Eagles to kill defenses with Mills, if this hire happens.

  40. I was meh when Landry was unceremoniously let go. I understood why it happened. Still didn't like it. Barry fucking Switzer was the straw, nay the bale of hay, that wrecked it for me. And even then, we had only glimpses of what a shitgibbon is Jerral Wayne Jones. Also, I didn't care for Jimmy Johnson and his fucking hair helmet. The guy can coach, but he's a sociopath and a cheesedick. I didn't really miss not having an NFL team to root for, still don't. Now I question why anyone gives a single solitary fuck about the NFL.

Just got a 2” leveling kit to take out that horrible rake and put a bakflip tonneau cover on which are the only mods I plan on doing. This thing is a blast to drive.
