Kirk Johnson had a nagging injury bug this year, just FYI. He should do well in NFL. Earl Campbell did ok.21 points

Welcome to the light, gentlemen. What Texas has been doing for decades is the absolute dumbest and most nonsensical approach possible. Refuse to get as dirty as everyone else, act high and mighty, but never turn anyone in. This approach basically means you're not trying to win. If you're not going to report the dirty shit then you have to participate. And while everyone playing by the rules would be my preference, that's never going to happen with the NCAA being feckless accomplices. So fuck it. Let's play. And in the grand scheme of moral issues, paying young men who are sacrificing their short and long term physical health for my entertainment doesn't even merit a shrug.19 points

Bullshit. Maybe when you have more life experience you'll be a better judge of character. Trump is a pussy. He's a schoolyard bully who merely talks tough. He's been repeatedly pantsed by his adversaries on the world stage. He's not even man enough to fire his employees to their face. He's a gutless coward.10 points

I am glad we do not pay the players but did pay Warehime, Mehringer, and Orlando millions of dollars. This is good and smart and why I love college football.9 points

Lo fucking L at someone who supports a man who believes stealth fighters are completely invisible to the naked eye, windmills cause cancer, we should buy Greenland, and that we should nuke hurricanes, thinking others are stupid.9 points

"I am so sick of my brother and mother fighting with each other. They both call me and complain about the other one and they won't shut up. I'm tired of listening to their problems." And, yes, she did spend the next twenty minutes recapping both conversations for me and explaining how frustrating it is to listen to someone else's problems when she doesn't want to be involved in it.9 points

Naivar will be missed. Well respected by players, high school coaches, Jeff Traylor type personality. His recruiting legacy will be the flip of Sterns from LSU. Great job at the Alamo Bowl, Craig ! Best of Luck.8 points

To be more specific, our foreign policy is almost entirely run by the military and the IC with the credible threat of military force as our chief negotiating strategy. It’s a ludicrous approach to dealing with the world because not only is it ultimately self destructive but it’s also insanely expensive. This approach does not make America any safer from the kind of foreign threats on the homeland we see today which is the whole fucking purpose of the military in the first place. Our resources would be much better spent building up a robust State Department with well educated diplomats that build constructive relationships with other countries instead of us just looking for places to park our combat troops in between deployments to bomb people. Our shit is really fucked up but it could be so much better.8 points

Okay. I finally went back and watched the game. We essentially ran three base defensive fronts: 1) The 3-3 Nickel Tite that we've been running all year. Sometimes flexed out to Okie. Sometimes as a Stack. Not much to see here. 2) A new, but somewhat anticipated, 4-2 Nickel Over. I will call it an Over, but how we set the front interior defenders flipped from Over/Under in a fashion that wasn't apparent to me just by watching closely. It's probably married to coverages in some fashion. Roach and Ossai alway played wide DEs, so I'm calling it an Over. --- But here's the crown jewel, the Play #8, if you will: 3) A 5-3 Swarm Flex. Whatever the opposite of modern, spread, Flyover Football defense is .... that's what this is. The way it worked is Ojomo and Sweat would sub for a couple DBs. It looks like this: Coburn at NT(1), Ojomo at SDT(3), Sweat at WDT(5), Graham at SDE (6i), ILBs play Under rules. It's set to the boundary, so it's backwards, but the rules to this point are essentially the same as Under with Graham tucked in tight. CBs follow the X and Z. Sterns is Deep Safety. Pretty sure it was exclusively Man-1, but you could get creative to mix in zones. Here's the fun parts: Roach at Whip (Down 8i) follows the (inline) Y-TE. He's your 5th DL and usually WDE. Ossai at Rover Safety/LB, yes you are reading that correctly, follows the (usually off) H-TE. Play #1 he was lined up as a Boundary Corner isolated 1on1. Play #2 he was Down 9 beside Graham. Against a FB set, he was Sam. Against a wing, he was Up 9 next to Roach. You get the picture, he moves around to keep unfair numbers in the box. Think jumbo Kam Chancellor. So this thing beat the shit out of Utah. I guess Ossai wasn't seen as a mismatch for the Utah TEs because that was never threatened. The interior pressure killed them. Roach, Graham, and Ossai could passively play contain and letting the DTs flush the pocket. When you put 5 or 6 on the line, 1v1s are everywhere and that worked in our favor. Against the run it works the same way with just too many big bodies trying to penetrate. ILBs had a good game mopping up as well (shout out to Jacques). I don't think it's repeatable with this personnel grouping against B12 competition but it was awesome for this game. ---- In other notes, various pass-rush packages showed back up: Amoeba was back after not existing all season, Cowboy was back since LaTech/LSU, Buck was still in the rotation. Tite-Stack existed in short yardage when we didn't want to sub. ---- TL/DR: The full 2018 playbook was back. We added a preview of something close to what Ash might be installing. And this year's Play #8 (and for me the key to the rout) was a super-jumbo version of an aggressive 90s defense.7 points

The only thing that matters here is this is 100 percent only an issue with Iran right now because Trump made it an issue. There was zero evidence Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons any more than they are now (most likely it was less) when trump renegged on the deal and started this whole conflict. He started this entire fire then he poured the gasoline on it with the assassination and we had to rely on the calm calculated shrewdness of FUCKING IRAN just to avoid an all out additional middle east war. This idiot starts this whole thing, escalates the shit out of it, puts the onus on IRAN to be the smarter side and not start a major war, then tries to take credit for the whole thing being de-escalated. And some of you morons actually believe he did great work here. It's only a matter of time until someone hits us back in the mouth again for these stupid bullying tactics and we're right back in a full blown additional war.7 points

Looking at it through glasses not tinted with seething hatred, one can argue they all seem to be landing pretty well for guys who got fired. But, that kind of observation is no fun at all for someone who wants to just crap all over everything in sight.6 points

Presser is showing in our break areas at work. Closed captioning only on the monitors so I couldn't hear him mangle the English language. As I walked past I saw a colleague I'm meeting with this afternoon. She had tears in her eyes while watching the TV. I asked her if everything was ok. She said "I just get so emotional when our president speaks. He is sacrificing so much for us." I know there are 63 million idiots out there, but I'm still stunned when I find one in the wild.6 points

Enough. GTFO (all the way out) of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Africa before we all wake up as dust motes. Spend those billions on improving this country and educating its citizens so they won't grow up to be dumb fucks engaged in permanent war. Somebody start a website or streaming service that reports nothing but facts. I'll ante up a year's worth of what I now pay my dipshit cable company.5 points

Mine likes to recap her conversations but she tells me every single thing that was said: "I told her what I heard and she was like 'OMG' and I said 'yep' and she said 'I can't believe it' and I said 'I know' and she said 'that's crazy!' and I'm like "totally!'. Then she had to go so I said bye and she said bye."5 points

Herman (Age 44) first 3 years at Texas: 25-15 Saban (Age 52) first 3 years at LSU: 26-12 Harbaugh (Age 54) first 3 years at UM: 28-11 Chris Peterson (Age 52) first 3 years at UW: 27-14 if it’s “all about W/L” then these other guys, at the time, weren’t much more than “pretty good” coaches There’s a rational play to let this thing play out before letting your opinion calcify5 points

He thought we legitimately lost Scott to KU when he committed there, so he now attaches significance for Texas to the fact that he decommitted and that one of the coaches that recruited him (Emmitt Jones) could be coming to Texas. Basically he’s making a stupid inference based on a previous stupid inference he made months ago. Just another example of Wescott’s quality reporting.5 points
