  2. See—this right here is a major problem in America. The notion that people’s “beliefs” are equally valid is killing us. It’s not about what the guy believed. Scientific facts and math aren’t a matter of “belief.” He rejected them. And now he’s dead as a result. So, yeah—he was a dumb motherfucker. And his death is really quite funny. 5. Sanders' message comes from FDR Democrats. We trusted them to win WWII and prosper after the Great Depression. Those policies were abandoned in the late 1970's to experiment with an offshoot of libertarianism. That was a mistake we need to correct. This is the pendulum backing away from hard-right austerity policies that decimated the working class and undercut the middle class. It is about raising all boats, not just the super-yachts. It is about hope. “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt That is not a difficult message because most Americans understand the system in place and agree it needs some fine tuning. There is no such thing as pure capitalism as an economic policy. We have a mixed economy - with capitalism intertwined with socialistic policies. We are governed under a representative democracy. Any adjustment in our laws will be democratic through elected officials. Not authoritarianism. The word socialism became a scare word in the 40's as the Cold War began. Our Allies - the Western democracies - fully embraced social democracy and did not have the same fear of a word. Socialism is not Communism. The Cold War was against Soviet and Chinese Communism, not socialism. If we were fighting socialism, we would need to attack our own government and every government in Western Europe. Soviet Communism was a threat, for many reasons. We fought that good fight and we won. The Soviets evolved from Soviet Communism to Russian authoritarianism ruled by oligarchs. Russia and the US are actively undermining each other and have been for some time. We have brave souls on that frontline. That fight intensifies with Sanders. I think it also important for older voters to understand Eisenhower, Nixon and Ford (as Republicans), as well as Truman, JFK, and LBJ, were all FDR New Deal Presidents. Eisenhower embraced FDR policies: Eisenhower favored a more moderate course, one that he called Modern Republicanism, which preserved individual freedom and the market economy yet insured that government would provide necessary assistance to workers who had lost their jobs or to the ill or aged, who through no fault of their own, could not provide for themselves. He intended to lead the country "down the middle of the road between the unfettered power of concentrated wealth . . . and the unbridled power of statism or partisan interests." As President, Eisenhower thought that government should provide some additional benefits to the American people. https://millercenter.org/president/eisenhower/domestic-affairs Our economy has become unbalanced and requires attention because of the move away from New Deal economic policy. The working and middle classes were strengths in our economic dominance. If we lose them, we lose American economic power. And more importantly, the poor have been neglected and damaged by the move away from the New Deal policies. We can do better - for all of us.

  7. God bless Deloss Dodds for finding a way to drive those idiots out of the conference. Now, if we can only terminate their status as a branch of The University of Texas, give them 1/3 of the financial assets UTIMCO is managing, and create even more distance between UT and A&M. The people of Texas deserve better than Texas A&M.

  9. I didn’t do anything after reading your post except roll my eyes. I’m glad you got negged for being a political bitch though. Keep your fucking “everything is about race and I’m going to highlight that to the morons” bullshit far away from here. You can usually tell when maybe politicizing every single thought isn’t going to go well. If everyone else around you seems a lot smarter than you and isn’t discussing the boring shit that is politics and its slanted hyperbole, then that isn’t the place to break out your dumb fucking tactics of turning something into racially or economically charged nonsense. Go fuck yourself.

  12. 2 min excerpt from the 20 min one above: It's going to take something monumentally big. Still early, but we might very well be starting to see a scale of people movement over which the traditional all-encompassing forces can't handle. I wouldn't oppose it.

  18. Do you want Trump making the next Supreme Court pick or Bernie? It's a simple as that for me. Given why people on the right support Trump, a swing proof majority on the Supreme Court would do unspeakable damage over some theoretical proposals that would have to get highly watered down to pass.

  24. Thermapen MK4. Everyone already knows about this one. But if you dont - just get one. It cost 5x a generic chinese one, but its calibrated, it reads instantly, battery last a long time, and itll actually last https://www.thermoworks.com/Thermapen-Mk4 Magnum peppermill by Unicorn. I've bought tons of mills (its sort of a habit) but this one shits on all of them. Smooth body is easy to clean. Large window to load peppercorns in. But the real reason is it uses a large all-metal grinder that really crushes the hell out of pepper. Tre Spade makes the grinding mechanism, so if you find their own branded grinders its probably just as good... http://www.unicornmills.org/magnum.html

  25. Newsflash, fellow olds: virtually nobody under 45 gives a shit about Castro and Cuba. Most people think it's bizarre and vindictive that we still have an embargo against them, and find it un-American that we as ostensibly free people are forbidden to visit Cuba.

  31. I had some interesting conversations on my calls for Warren yesterday. A couple of olds I spoke to went Biden and Bloomberg. They sounded desperate for normalcy and won't vote Trump but they were also worried about Bernie. I wonder if that will make them stay home in the general. I just thanked them for voting blue and to stay with it come November. I also spoke to a few Warren backers, at least 5. Spoke to a Bernie bro out in college station. He wasn't hard Bernie so I got him to check out her website for her plans. He sounded like he would. There were three undecideds that I may have done a good job getting them to lean Warren. The most interesting convo I had was with a black fella from San Antonio. He was hard Trump and blamed the last 3 years on the democrats that had done nothing at all. He also said that the economy was good and a lot of folks he knew where doing better. I think he said he was an investigator and that he used to be a democrat but now he is hard Trump because he was delivering on the economy. I just pointed out that all the stuff the house passed was being held up by the Senate so I wasn't sure what he meant but I respected his opinion and thanked him for his time. He sort of threw me for a loop cuz I was talking to folks that voted democrat and wasn't expecting it. There was no need wasting my breath anyway. One other interesting convo was with an older Hispanic guy. He was an undecided and I may have helped Warren's case with him. He said that he thought the republicans were the party of death. That their blocking gun control and blocking legislation to improve climate health and blocking many millions from affordable healthcare were costing lives. It was a powerful statement because he was a man of modest means and he saw this truth that is staring right at us. It made me think of that line in the movie of Josie Wales where he is talking to the chief Ten Bears and they are talking about fighting or not. Ten Bears: It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life. We have picked life and we must fight for it with every vote cast blue. I will call for her again during the week to see if I can maybe get her on the minds of some folks still undecided or with weak leans. It was a good couple of hours spent.

  43. Time for an offseason update on my wife's shenanigans: She decided to stop drinking a few months ago, so the time previously spend drinking wine and watching Netflix is now spent brainstorming new business ideas. I came home this weekend to a bunch of arts and crafts shit all over the dining table, with her unloading Michael's bags. Me: What's up? Wife: You know how gold necklaces always get knotted up? Me: No, but I'll take your word for it. Wife: Well it's really bad when you travel. So I'm going to come up with some kind of carrying case that I can put my necklaces in when I travel, WITHOUT knotting up. Me: (wagging my finger, lying my ass off). Now THAT sounds like a winner. Wife: I know! Speaking of jewelry I forgot to tell you about the diamond thing. Me: (deep breath) Diamond thing? Wife: Remember that Canadian couple we met in Cabo? Well I've stayed in contact with the wife. We'd like to go into business with one another but couldn't find the right opportunity. Well, she found one. We're going to try to reopen a dormant diamond mine on Eskimo land. I shit you not. Reopen a dormant diamond mine on Eskimo land. Me: Have you started drinking again? (leans in to smell breath) Wife: Oh stop! She has good government connections for this kind of thing. We'll just need to round up some investors. Me: I'd think so, to the tune of 10's of millions of dollars. Wife: Nah, not that much, we're only going for a controlling interest at 51% I walk away shaking my head. This is becoming a runaway locomotive, so after a couple of hours of more head shaking I decide it's time to apply some brakes. I decide to tell her about that scrunchie into a cup cover thing that @mulletpellini posted a few weeks back. I pull up the article on my phone and hand it to her, hold my breath. Wife: (reads a bit) Shit! (sits down, keeps reading) A scrunchie on a cup lid?! Who the hell wants hair in their drink? So dumb. Ours is completely different. Me: (shoulder shrug) Just thought you'd like to know. Wife: Just goes to show you what a good idea it was. Women have to protect themselves from getting roofied. Animals out there. So my attempt at placing brakes on this locomotive have been torched to shreds and lie smoldering on the side of the tracks. Oh well, I've never met Eskimos before. Sounds kind of cool.
