  1. My daughters fever just hit 104.7 and wife took her to the ER. Not saying it’s Corona but she’s 9 and that’s scary as hell. Pray for my little girl shag if you are into that (we’ve been under lockdown since March 1- she left the house twice since then to go to the grocery store with us and out the dog down. Nobody has left the house in a month except grocery store. Damn this sucks.

  6. This was always going to happen. Raising the doomsday alarm was the only way to mitigate the hospitals being overrun which in turn stopped the hospitals being overrun which makes the doomsday mockers believe they were right all along.

  7. Yea, this is apologist stuff. Trump didn't misread the threat to the nation; he simply prioritized the threat to himself politically. All you really need to hear to prove that are his comments about refusing aid to the cruise ship off San Francisco because he didn't want "the numbers" to look bad. He meant make him look bad and scare the stock markets. The mentioned bureaucratic mismanagement can largely be laid at Trump's feet as well. He was advised by all relevant government entities months before he was forced by the consequences they predicted to bow to the facts. He has only just in the last few days given up his fairy tale of everything being back to normal by Easter. Again, he wasn't being dumb. He was and is being true to his narcissist character of seeing this threat only in terms of its danger to himself and re-election not to mention continued criminal profit from his high office. As Bullneck wrote above, you seem to have assumed something written in a smart sounding way to be smart. No, it's not.

  9. Ok, here's the follow up I said I'd come back with... Chicago is staying on top of this. Our major hospitals downtown don't have a ton of reserves with ventilators but the city overall has been great about shelter in home. We were worried about the big rush after the St. Pat's parties on Saturday March 14th. Orders went in place starting that Monday. We are two weeks past that and holding up pretty well. The big players downtown (NW/UC/UIC/Rush) really feel ready and it looks like instead of one giant peak we will get a 3-5 week period of increased needs but the capacity seems to be there. Again, that's the current model but things could still go sideways. I know there's a pissing match on here between the doomsday group and those that think those people are morons. The bottom line is if we didn't quarantine, the doomsday group would have been right. But all of those people should be happy to be wrong. I just hope we don't have a bunch of mouth breathers who are like 'durrrrrr, see I told you!!!'. Be the bigger man. And if those people are, in fact, all over the place...I could give zero fucks. Because it's obvious at this point science is winning the war with messaging. Now, we're not winning every battle...see some ignorant governors etc. But the overall war is going to science. All the 'well go ahead and cancel everything...haha, that won't happen because economy this and that'. Sorry, you were wrong - pretty much everything was shut down. Look at the states with no stay at home order. They're the who's who of dumbest motherfuckers in America...

  10. https://www.pittwire.pitt.edu/news/covid-19-vaccine-candidate-shows-promise-first-peer-reviewed-research University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine scientists announced a potential vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus causing the COVID-19 pandemic. When tested in mice, the vaccine, delivered through a fingertip-sized patch, produces antibodies specific to SARS-CoV-2 at quantities thought to be sufficient for neutralizing the virus. The paper appeared April 2 in eBioMedicine, which is published by The Lancet, and is the first study to be published after critique from fellow scientists at outside institutions that describes a candidate vaccine for COVID-19. The researchers were able to act quickly because they had already laid the groundwork during earlier coronavirus epidemics. “We had previous experience on SARS-CoV in 2003 and MERS-CoV in 2014. These two viruses, which are closely related to SARS-CoV-2, teach us that a particular protein, called a spike protein, is important for inducing immunity against the virus. We knew exactly where to fight this new virus,” said co-senior author Andrea Gambotto, associate professor of surgery at the Pitt School of Medicine. “That’s why it’s important to fund vaccine research. You never know where the next pandemic will come from.” “Our ability to rapidly develop this vaccine was a result of scientists with expertise in diverse areas of research working together with a common goal,” said co-senior author Louis Falo, professor and chair of dermatology at Pitt’s School of Medicine and UPMC. Compared to the experimental mRNA vaccine candidate that just entered clinical trials, the vaccine described in this paper—which the authors are calling PittCoVacc, short for Pittsburgh CoronaVirus Vaccine—follows a more established approach, using lab-made pieces of viral protein to build immunity. It’s the same way the current flu shots work. The researchers also used a novel approach to deliver the drug, called a microneedle array, to increase potency. This array is a fingertip-sized patch of 400 tiny needles that delivers the spike protein pieces into the skin, where the immune reaction is strongest. The patch goes on like a Band-Aid and then the needles—which are made entirely of sugar and the protein pieces—simply dissolve into the skin. “We developed this to build on the original scratch method used to deliver the smallpox vaccine to the skin, but as a high-tech version that is more efficient and reproducible patient to patient,” Falo said. “And it’s actually pretty painless—it feels kind of like Velcro.” The system is also highly scalable. The protein pieces are manufactured by a “cell factory”—layers upon layers of cultured cells engineered to express the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein—that can be stacked further to multiply yield. Purifying the protein can also be done at industrial scale. Mass-producing the microneedle array involves spinning down the protein-sugar mixture into a mold using a centrifuge. Once manufactured, the vaccine can sit at room temperature until it’s needed, eliminating the need for refrigeration during transport or storage. “For most vaccines, you don’t need to address scalability to begin with,” Gambotto said. “But when you try to develop a vaccine quickly against a pandemic that’s the first requirement.” When tested in mice, PittCoVacc generated a surge of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 within two weeks of the microneedle prick. Those animals haven’t been tracked long term yet, but the researchers point out that mice who got their MERS-CoV vaccine produced a sufficient level of antibodies to neutralize the virus for at least a year, and so far the antibody levels of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccinated animals seem to be following the same trend. Importantly, the SARS-CoV-2 microneedle vaccine maintains its potency even after being thoroughly sterilized with gamma radiation—a key step toward making a product that’s suitable for use in humans. The authors are now in the process of applying for an investigational new drug (IND) approval from the Food and Drug Administration in anticipation of starting a phase I human clinical trial in the next few months. “Testing in patients would typically require at least a year and probably longer,” Falo said. “This particular situation is different from anything we’ve ever seen, so we don’t know how long the clinical development process will take. Recently announced revisions to the normal processes suggest we may be able to advance this faster.” Additional authors on the study are Eun Kim, Geza Erdos, Shaohua Huang, Thomas Kenniston, Stephen Balmert, Cara Donahue Carey, Michael Epperly, William Klimstra and Emrullah Korkmaz, all of Pitt; and Bart Haagmans, of Erasmus Medical Center. Funding for this study was provided by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases grant R21-AI114264, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases grants R01-AR074285, R01-AR071277 and R01-AR068249, and National Cancer Institute grant T32-CA175294. 11. I don't understand why you and some others continue positing it this way. Why do you believe this assumption is true or even meaningful? We don't have 1 infection from 1 patient zero spreading uniformly in the USA. This isn't 1918 where our national and international travel is limited to horseback, buggy, railroads, and ships that take a week to cross the ocean. We have near-instantaneous travel to almost any location in the world. Consequently we have hotspots blooming all over the country. We have New York and Seattle and Detroit and New Orleans and all of Florida. Just as Europe has Northern Italy and London and Madrid and Paris. Do you think the virus doesn't cross state boundaries or national borders but rather it remains contained within your selected geographical observational area of choice? Here's a thought experiment: Light a fire in the center of a forest, and measure the acreage burned 1 day, 3 days, 10 days, 30 days later. Now start over, and light 15 fires spread throughout that same forest, and then once again measure the acreage burned 1 day, 3 days, 10 days, 30 days later. Right now, you're telling me you think those two numbers would be the same. But they're clearly not going to be the same. A comparison to Italy doesn't make any sense at all and never has. The more appropriate comparison, would be the USA versus the 5 most populous nations in Europe, which is UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain. Those in total are pretty close to the USA in population, they represent wider geographic spread that is more analogous to the USA than any one of those countries on its own, and beyond that, their varying approaches to containing the spread of coronavirus from country to country, could be viewed as similar to the differing ways the various states and municipalities within the USA have approached the same problem. So if you really want to compare European totals to USA totals, then you should add up their total deaths of those 5 countries, at the same point in time (x days after first 100 deaths or whatever measure you prefer). Then, and only then, will you have something that approaches a rational comparison.

I'm simply pointing out that certain people (mostly you, our thread's resident Karen, and a couple other guys) have posted more times about the Cloak Room in this thread than all other posters have actually made political posts combined. It's extra rich coming from you as one of the most prolific posters on that board. Essentially you and the snowflake crew have started using "CR Troll" as a label for anyone who hurts your feelings. 15. Pandemic is just a stage of outbreak. They were ringing the bell, telling countries to take it seriously and institute containment measure. Our President decided it was the flu and no big deal. It wasn't the WHO or China that did that. People in this goddamn forum knew it was a big deal back in January. I'm sorry if I expect at least as much from the people running the country.

  18. Another update - so you know I'm not dead Day 21 (March 31st) was the first day in 3 weeks that I had no symptoms at all. No weird lightheadedness, no fatigue, no chest congestion, resting heart rate was back in the mid to low 70s. Couple of things - the zpak I got after the 10th day really fucked up my stomach/gut again and I had random runs for a week after I finished it. It was crazy how this shit seemed to come and go - worn down, tired, and tightness in my chest. I would be out of breath just going on walks down the street. I've been completely symptom free now for 3 days and started working in the yard again. I'm able to eat big meals and drink heavy without feeling like shit. My youngest that had all the same symptoms as I did has been perfect for more than 2 weeks. Oddly enough - she did have this weird eczema rash around her eyes that turned into pinkeye (and it's apparently another tell-tale sign/symptom of covid19) We were prescribed antibiotic eye drops that knocked it out in 3 days. Other than that - everyone in the house is healthy and good. We've been getting curbside/delivery once per week, house is stocked, 500 dollars on liquor secured, 250 dollars worth of beer in the fridge, guns are cleaned and powder is dry. Life is fucking grand. For now.

  20. She’s feeling much better and her temp has gone down to line 101 almost 105 is scary shit man They didn’t even test her. For anything. Not even flu. This seems beyond stupid. Just told us to self isolate for 14 days (that’s what we’ve been doing doc) and we don’t need to test for anything because it doesn’t matter what’s going on for treatment protocol you just need to assume you have something bad and quarantine the whole family for 14 days. Yeah- we have been doc- but it would be nice to know if we got it and are in the clear etc. also- got a tamiflu and a bill for $960 along with those no tests of any kind and 2 minutes with the doc. Grrrrrrrr

  21. All of that is good and well. The Chinese line a lot of pockets around the world. But anytime you hear the word "outbreak" and either "China" or "Sub Sahara Africa" your first response should be "I want more information about that, ASAP. Also somebody pull out the pandemic plans, give them a once over and make sure we are up to date and ready to go." It's like when a Tropical Depression appears off the coast of Africa. Time to start discussing planning, make sure the generator turns over, and itemize the chest freezer, even if there's a solid chance it'll spin off into the Atlantic.

  24. I think Trump's problem was that he treated a virus like any other impediment that has gotten in his way in the past. He thought he could instantly make it go away with money. Unfortunately, pandemics don't work that way. When he was a real estate developer, he bribed his way out of problems. "This isn't up to code, Donald." A fat stack of cash made that problem go away. When he was running for president, he paid to shut down any scandals. "Having sex with a porn star may come back to haunt you, Donald." Hush money to Stormy made that problem go away (temporarily). The list goes on and on with Trump making problems instantly disappear with money (or any number of other nefarious ways). He thought the same thing would happen with COVID-19. On January 24, he tweeted, "It will all work out well." On February 27, he said, "“It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.” That's how he looks at problems. Throw money at it and it will be gone. He thinks there's a silver bullet for everything. He thought scientists could cook up a vaccine in a week. He wanted to buy a German company because he thought they found a miracle cure. He's been hyping this combination of drugs that he thinks cures COVID-19. This is the mindset of somebody who has never worked for anything in his life. Trump has been handed everything on a silver platter. He thinks great things just automatically happen by osmosis. He doesn't appreciate the hard work and preparation and time it takes to accomplish goals. He should have been preparing for this in January, but he thought Xi would take care of it. Then when it becomes a problem, he makes up lies and excuses for why he didn't do anything sooner. Now here we are in April and the problem is getting worse. But don't worry. Trump will be fine. He's doing what he does best - insulate himself and make money off the deal. Even if he's voted out in November, he'll take his fair share of the stimulus slush fund. And he'll still be a hero to 32% of the country.

  26. For people blaiming the WHO, when did you become such globalist cucks? Frankly, this is America, we have never relied on global organizations to make what is the best decision for our citizenry. Now suddenly Trump's defenders are out here with the "The WHO was wrong! WTF were we supposed to do? The global community that we ostensibly lead let us down! God King is absolved!"

  30. Trump mocked Pence right in his face in front of everyone today. And Pence just smiled and nodded and defaulted into his robotic, idolatry pose. "Mike just talked for five minutes without even coming close to touching your question. That's a real professional. It's a very fair question, though. It's a good question and we're looking at it." Pence's wife is as dry as the Sahara tonight. He's such a devout vagina drier that he commits to rearranging dinner plans to insist on his wife's presence so she can bear witness to him making other vaginas dry. And today he humbled himself before the Altar of the Orange Sheen and dehydrated vaginas across the nation. No swamp in the land is impervious to his draining abilities.
