  1. You're just aching to talk politics, go to that thread, and shit away my man. This thread has stayed basically Surly civil, but you're determined to fuck that up. Just how many posts is it now where you've made some veiled reference to not being able to discuss politics here ? EDIT: Funny Lobo, you're the only one to tag me with a laugh emoji. I believe you're in the minority here. How hard is it for you to just leave the politics outside this thread ?

  2. You mean Joe Biden who was VP during the H1N1 and Ebola outbreaks? Who was part of the administration that created the now-disbanded Office of Pandemic Response? Don't be foolish. But the question should be would Hillary have handled it better and the answer to that is also a resounding yes. Trump is a pathetic incompetent who isn't qualified to hold a seat on the Public School Board or City Council.

  3. I mean, who the fuck has blamed this shit on Mexico? What the fuck are you even referencing? “ Oh no!! Some people blamed the virus on China!” Well guess what, Nancy, fucking China covered this shit up. Not the Chinese people as a whole, the Chinese government (who happen to be Chinese people, shocking I know) so then you just fucking waltz in here and try throwing a racism grenade about some trips to Mexico with real Mexicans or people with ties to family in Mexico. Shocking that UT students with family in Mexico would go on a trip to....Mexico. All of which has fuck all to do with this thread, outside of the virus, which was covered up by China, forcing trips to Mexico to be cancelled.

  4. Stupid question. Biden would never had fired the team that THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SET UP. He wouldn't have LIED. He would have LET THE EXPERTS DO THEIR JOBS AND NOT APPOINTED FAMILY MEMBERS.

  6. An effective leader doesn’t have to be smart, just smart enough to figure out who is smart and listen to them.

  7. To answer you seriously, yes. Yes of course he would have, because he and his administration would have listened to actual experts when they rang alarm bells in January. He wouldn't have gotten rid of the pandemic response team in the first place. He wouldn't have been holding rallies calling it a political hoax. He wouldn't have been arrogantly taking all his cues from fox news and saying it's just the flu and like a miracle it will just go away. He wouldn't have been so divisive with governors who desperately need help. And also he wouldn't put his idiot underqualified soninlaw up there as the head of his response team. Of course, without question, there is no doubt it would have been handled better.

  8. Are you trying to have an honest debate about whether competent leadership during this crisis would have meant better outcomes versus similar outcomes? actually, why don’t you just shut up for once.

  9. My MIL has metastatic breast cancer. My FIl was not allowed in MD Anderson last week when she had her PET scan or the next day when she had her consult. (Good news, markers way down and lesion reduced 30% since last scan)

  10. I drive each Saturday 95 miles to my mom's house( 82 years old) I pick up groceries in a bigger town just north of her and any household goods needs they might need. I set them on the porch and call her and say it's ready. All I get is a wave and a smile. Don't get me wrong, it is invaluable. Oh what I'd give for a hug right now.

  13. I was told we were never going to bow and apologize again, and restore prestige to America. I was told it would trickle down money and everyone would be rich. I was told health care would be about $19 and cover more. I was told that we would reduce the cases from 15 to zero. I was told we had the best health care in the world. I was told that socialists are evil and that those shitty countries envy our wealth of supplies and materials. I was told that a businessman would whip the Government into shape and make it better.

  15. Good buddy of mine in Lakeway has been in ICU the last 8 days. He's in pretty bad shape as it transitioned to a coma so we are doing our best to keep things very optimistic. Early 30's and healthy for the most part outside of any underlying medical issues we are not aware of. Wife, kids tested negative and they have all been sheltering at home outside of a few trips he made to Home Depot and to get groceries. Yall stay safe, this has hit home for us.

  19. I will guaranfuckingtee you one thing. If Hillary had been elected President and corona virus occurred the death toll would be way worse. Mainly because every single Republican dumb ass would listen to Fox and believe it was all a hoax or just a way for the Democrats to push Socialism on us. They would refuse to do social distancing, close their stores, etc... and go ahead with their lives even though people they know would be dropping dead left and right all around them.

  20. This. Everything about Trump is a facade. EVERYTHING. He is a phony, skin-deep illusion of a human being. The very definition of an empty suit. To Trump, words speak louder than action. If you say you’ve done something, there’s no need to actually do it. The goal is for people to think you did it, which you can accomplish much more easily and effortlessly by just lying to them. That’s especially true if a critical mass of rubes stands by at the ready to believe every lie you utter. Which is of course America 2020. Or enough of it, anyway. We’re governed by a cult. Trump is Jim Jones, but without even the veneer of empathy.

  21. I was talking about this with a co-worker. If I told the plumber, electrician, doctor, lawyer, or any other professional how much more I knew than them about their job they'd dump me. That's Dunning-Krueger in the WH. Biden knows that he needs help from experts. Trump absolutely refuses to listen to anyone. He won't read. He dismisses facts that don't agree with his opinions. He's about as ill-suited for this job as a man can be. And Hillbitch was slighted for being 'over-prepared'. Fuck Chuck Todd

  26. I am still just astounded how people don't see how horrible of a president he is. Just objectively. It's not just that any other president we've had would be doing a better job. Any other candidate from 2016 would be. Probably even any current congressperson (maybe not Gohmert or the like) would be better. He is a functionally broken human being and these rubes just can't see it.

  27. Yeah. It kinda pissed me off. I was running a nuclear reactor when I was 21. I was 25 when I was put in charge of my division. Not only did I have to deal with fixing problems with the reactors. I had to fix personnel problems when dealing with 19-29 year olds. And know when to move that problem up or to bury that shit because a 19 year old got drunk. Ruin his career or have a good talk with him. But yeah. I'm just some fucking mouth breather with no critical thinking skills

  31. I'm still playing catch up, but had to respond to this. Are you seriously reluctant to hire ex-military due to the fact that you think their training has compromise their critical thinking? If anything, it fucking enhances it, and creates a person who can both think critically, and rely on instinctual training that the military (does at times) drill into one's heart, body, and mind. What a really broad brush to paint given what's happened over the last twenty years. I want to say that you're wrong, but the more I think about it....just go fuck yourself.

  34. Had a brief talk with my 78yo mom this morning. She and my 83yo dad are finally getting the picture. We've talked every few days since this thing has gotten started, and they've slowly come around since mid-February after a lot of skepticism. The last time I spoke with her was Wednesday, and I gave her the requisite lecture about wearing a mask in public after she was telling me the Sam's they had just gone to was more crowded than she'd ever seen it. After nudging her a bit, she took action and remembered she knew how to sew and took my advice to put some together for her and my dad. This morning, I shared with her the golden advice that Eastwood shared about cutting up squares of HEMA vacuum cleaner bags to put behind the mask and later dispose. She thought that was genius, so thanks man. I've got to say that in spite of all the ungodly shit that is happening, it's made me appreciate the precarious nature of my elderly parents' lives more, and I want to thank all of you for the collective asshole advice we've built up the last couple of months. With all that said, I still think TexasHammer is still the most stupid poster I'm glad to have never met IRL.

  38. There are good and bad ex-military employees, just like any non-military hire. Having been a military family, your post indicates you don’t have much of an understanding of military processes and why they exist. And it’s sad that your lack of critical thinking skills is prohibiting you from hiring what could be fantastic employees. The reality of the situation is that there isn’t enough information out in the public yet for any of us to judge whether he made the right or wrong decision. There is a line at which a commander does have to make a decision to not only break the chain of command, but also go outside the military to address an issue. Breaking chain of command is a very serious issue when it comes to the military. Why? Because life or death decisions are made every single day in the military. You can’t have a military leader deciding that it isn’t worth storming the beaches of Normandy because his guys are going to get killed. There are a dozen factors you have to look at to understand his decision-making and whether it was appropriate. What was the timing of the events? Did he break chain of command internally first or leak the memo outside first? How did he engage his command on the issue? What were important factors under consideration at the time? Was there a place to put the soldiers on land? Did that place produce a higher or lower risk to the soldiers? Was there a critical military issue that was going on in parallel to all of this? What did his commanders tel him before he leaked the memo? Was it just sending the memo that got him fired? What did he try before sending the memo? Personally, based upon the information we’ve seen so far, I would lean towards him having done the right thing, but I wouldn’t declare every other opinion wrong because we still don’t fully understand the situation.

  40. So... fall of 1998 and I’m a freshman starting out at Oklahoma State. I chose to go there over Texas and OU, chiefly because Texas never answered the phone and OU only talked shit about OSU during my visit...so I assumed OSU must be good as the Sooners hated them. I was an Air Force brat who knew nothing of sports, having had to buy a book on football during my senior year in high school because I was in the Burkburnett marching band and knew nothing of the sport after living in Turkey the past 3 years. I bought a sports package my freshman year as I just assumed that’s what you did. In those days you had an A/B setup where the OU game was the A package, and the rest of the good games were on the B package. I knew nothing of bedlam so I selected the B set, which meant I was there for the season opener. Against TCU. Coached by Billy Tubbs, the ex-Sooner. I walked into that place looking up at the rafters and thinking I’d seen better during my HS’s short run in the state basketball tourney. Taking my seat in the third row of the student section, behind a goal post, thinking more about my first few months in college than I did basketball. Go team! I hope we win! Billy Tubbs comes out of the visitors locker room and I hear the loudest booing in my life. I ask the dude next to me why we are so pissed and he says ‘ex OU coach’. Oh shit I guess we do hate ou. Wait is this serious around here? Sutton comes out and my feat start buzzing. I suddenly realize people are cheering so loudly the bleacher floor is vibrating. I watched him half the game, scowling at everyone with that patented pacing I remember so well during our glory years...suit unbuttoned, hunched over, lower jaw sticking out, permanent frown, eyes lazing holes into the court that would later bear his name. Do I need to take this seriously? I remember it being a close game. I remember thinking ‘This Desmond Mason guy is good at this here Basketball game’. I remember leaving with my ears ringing and I remember thinking ‘either all of college basketball is this intense or I’ve stumbled onto something great, and need to read up on it so I can be a part of this’. The thing I remember most is Sutton pacing that court, not seeming to say sentences just barking words at players and assistants. That was my first and favorite Gallagher Iba Arena memory, but it wasn’t about the court so much as that mythical dude in the gray suit barking orders. My second favorite memory was walking that very floor four years later to earn my diploma, coming full circle from a wide eyed freshman to a degree-earning senior...all in the same building. Eddie was a huge part of why I love osu so much. And despite his DUI, problems at Kentucky and overall demons..he personally was a part of my birth as a lifelong OSU fan and am glad to see him get recognition for being a tough, defensive, stern coach that impacted people beyond that maple court in Stillwater.
