It’s why you have refugees like me andChiTownDoc and Mrs Whiggins and Hugo Stiglitz . Even with the advent of platforms like Facebook and Twitter, I’m GenX and I prefer message boards . I like more long form back and forth discussions with folks I’d probably never meet in real life. I used to be a frequent poster on TigerDroppings. I loved talking football and various nonsense with fans from other teams. It changed in 2015-2016. I remembered Shaggy (RIP) because of the brilliant Thujone and his MSPaint masterpieces, so I started visiting here to see what the atmosphere was like and was pleasantly surprised. This board has all the fun stuff I like to read and discuss (sports, TV talk, irreverent humor, etc.) but seeing my people (southern football fans who love to cuss) also reflect my political views was an oasis. So, thank y’all for allowing me to hang around. I’m still a BamaChick through and through so I’ll never assimilate fully. But I have faith y’all won’t stick me in a cage and deport me.19 points

I was disheartened last Father's day weekend as the immediate family AIRBNB'd a "ranch" in the hill country. It was three days spent almost entirely outside in the sun, in the overly-chlorinated pool and in separate beds for everyone. 8 kids romping around in the pool, chasing lizards and just generally having a good time. Everyone there was "over" Covid, but at least there was no interaction with anyone outside the family group. My Boomer father and my Aunt were there, who I know to be good people of character and "Christian". It was so disappointing to observe the mental gymnastics used to still support Trump. For my father (Doctor) it has to do with ACA negatively affecting his income and the abortion issue. My Aunt has had just the right BS targeted at her: Isaiah 45. She contends that theses verses are interpreted as how God can use a bad man (Persian king Cyrus) to do his will. I can see that interpretation. Then she said it was a miracle Trump came along as the 45th president, which I of course reject. There is no arguing with these people so I don't try. I leaned Republican many years ago. There is no path that I can foresee for the GOP to ever win back my vote. I also feel guilty about voting pub a couple decades ago; I was wrong and I admit that. This man is a clear criminal and traitor. This weekend let's just try to communicate with those who will listen in a non-combative way, as well as listen to them. If each one of us just help change the mind of someone on the fence (admittedly not many) or get a Democrat to be sure to vote. That's where we win to change our course - the well-informed voter who is disillusioned and may just sit at home. Don't let them.17 points

I love a lot of the Lincoln Party videos, I also realize a lot of people behind it are terrible pieces of shit that have supported terrible policies since Reagan. We can team up until November 3rd but don’t give those fuckers your money or your email. #trumpsucks10 points

HELSINKI (AP) — Nordic authorities say they detected slightly increased levels of radioactivity in northern Europe this month that Dutch officials said may be from a source in western Russia and may “indicate damage to a fuel element in a nuclear power plant.” But Russian news agency TASS, citing a spokesman with the state nuclear power operator Rosenergoatom., reported that the two nuclear power plans in northwestern Russia haven’t reported any problems. The Leningrad plant near St. Petersburg and the Kola plant near the northern city of Murmansk, “operate normally, with radiation levels being within the norm,” Tass said. The Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish radiation and nuclear safety watchdogs said this week they’ve spotted small amounts of radioactive isotopes harmless to humans and the environment in parts of Finland, southern Scandinavia and the Arctic. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority said Tuesday that “it is not possible now to confirm what could be the source of the increased levels” of radioactivity or from where a cloud, or clouds, containing radioactive isotopes that has allegedly been blowing over the skies of northern Europe originated. Its Finnish and Norwegian counterparts also haven’t speculated about a potential source. But the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Netherlands said Friday it analyzed the Nordic data and “these calculations show that the radionuclides (radioactive isotopes) come from the direction of Western Russia.” “The radionuclides are artificial, that is to say they are man-made. The composition of the nuclides may indicate damage to a fuel element in a nuclear power plant,” the Dutch agency said, adding that ”a specific source location cannot be identified due to the limited number of measurements.” Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization tweeted on Friday that the organization’s radiation-monitoring sensors in Sweden detected a slight increase of several harmless isotopes in northwestern European airspace. The unnamed Rosatomenergo spokesman told TASS on Saturday that radiation levels at the Leningrad and Kola power stations and their surrounding areas “have remained unchanged in June, and no changes are also observed at present.” “Both stations are working in normal regime. There have been no complaints about the equipment’s work,” Tass quoted him as saying. “No incidents related to release of radionuclide outside containment structures have been reported.”9 points

I don't think it's completely ignorance, at least not for all. There are an awful lot of people out there who feel they have won their position in life by hard work and grit. They have been bombarded with the 'welfare queen' story so often that it is 100% truth. There is no other side to it. There is no white privilege working against the minorities, only their laziness to improve their station is to blame. They are completely sure the Democrats will take away their hard earned things and redistribute them to those lazy people who refuse to work. You see it every day with messages from the right. All this 2A shit dotard keeps spewing. The common message about it all is the Dems are going to take it away from you!! And it's not solely whites who feel this way. We see it more than we'd expect in the hispanic and to a lesser extent the black communities. Not sure about the asian/pacific american bloc. All the while, a lot of the churches have turned their message to justifying greed over sharing and caring for others. It's like a good lot of Americans (you could actually go beyond our borders to India, UK, etc), I'd say around 40%, have been led to firmly believe in the "I got mine, screw you" mindset, and not only feel good about it, but righteous about it. What's so sad about it is "mine" for a lot of these people is a single wide, a flat screen, and a dually that rolls smoke. But somehow, hanging onto a system that has produced the uber wealthy is their ticket out and upwards. Maybe that's ignorance, but I think ignorance is the byproduct of the overall brainwashing. Proud, willful ignorance. This is an excellent point. I think Biden should be asking these questions. Go on the offensive for this asshole's unfounded attacks. Press him relentlessly for straight answers, not innuendo. On everything. Do it on twitter, his weapon of choice.9 points

Future history students are going to struggle so much with this. "So he was clearly in bed with Russia, right?" "Oh yeah." "That was just general common knowledge? And nothing was done?" "That's right." "To the extent that he actually sided publicly with Russia over our intelligence agencies?" "Yeah." "Ok, but then he was impeached right?" "Yeah. But not for that." "For fucks sake."8 points

1) of course it can. He could shoot down a C-117 full of Marines himself, claim he did it because he loves America more than even our brave Marines do, and his crowd would love him for it. 2) but I don’t care, we need to be relentless on it. Let’s be crystal mother fucking clear here: a foreign power is actively working to kill American troops, the DOTUS kenos about it, and is sucking up to that foreign power. It’s treason in most every sense of the word. If you support Trump, you support killing US troops. Never, ever, can any member of the GOP say “I support our troops” without us filling in “being killed by bounty hunters paid by Trump’s butt buddy.” To be a supporter of the GOP is literally supporting our enemy working to kill our soldiers. History...heritage...LAW AND ORDER! I mean, they’re not even trying to hide it. I will day this, Trump is going to pull something off that even I didn’t think was possible. He is simultaneously going to be the last president of the United States and the last president of the Confederacy. That’s what the GOP is now - the party of the Confederacy. They should meet its fate. Except at the end, they should be wishing that we were as merciful as Sherman.8 points

When I found out that there really were no WMD in Iraq, so the whole thing was a complete sham, the aircraft carrier started to turn around. Then Katrina and abu ghraib. The final straw was the mortgage and banking collapse which were most definitely caused by the republicans with an assist from some republican minded dems. I admit I was a dumbass. However I was also lied to. Never again.7 points

I am reasonably sure that this cannot be repeated often enough. And more to the point, what intelligence we do possess, we usually ignore. I have always held the belief that most people's political, philosophical, theological, and dietary opinions are 99% emotion and 1% pure chance, with reason and logic being nothing but window dressing. I include myself in that number, by the way, because I may be a stupid human, and I am definitely crazy, but I'm not a narcissist. We are one fucked up rock, twirling around a hydrogen bomb in the outer reaches of the Milky Way.6 points

Even in a world where Trump is president - this seems like a really big fucking deal. US intelligence reports that Russia is offering bounties on US troops and the president does nothing about it. Actually, that’s not true, Trump did something - he tried to force Russia into the G8 over the objection of our allies and invited Putin to the White House. This is one can’t just fade away. Can it?6 points

I do believe that they were doing what was right but it was insanely fucking wrong. They laid out all of the tools for Trump to enact his authortanisim. I am pretty sure a few of the people here opposing Trump were defending Dubya back in the day. I still remember pleading with people in the 2004 election "this shit will be abused in the future.." Fuck you former Republicans!!!! I also remember the AntiWar movement dissolving after 2008. Fuck you centrist Democrats!!!6 points

On the Veterans Choice thing: Biden needs to bring that up at the debate. Mention all the times that Trump has taken credit for it. He then needs to reach in his pocket, pull out a pen, and say “see this motherfucker? This is the pen that Obama used to sign veterans choice into law”.6 points
