  1. So yesterday, I'm perusing Facebook during a lull in the workday. I'm friends with one of my dad's secretaries from back in the day. She was my age, lived in my apartment complex and we often hung out platonically...she had a boyfriend at Texas State while we were in Houston. I have worked in media for a number of years, so I always look at things with a cynical eye at first, then will do my best to read up and follow up and learn more if the issue strikes a chord with me. I saw that she posted the Stella Immanuel bullshit, and I went to the Daily Beast website and copied and pasted the parts about her beliefs in demon semen and all that. She comes right back with "WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT???" and I told her that it was from Daily Beast. About 20 minutes goes by and she comes back with "Oh, some left leaning "news" site?" I told her that DB was pretty down the middle and even linked with some studies and media ratings, and then said "This woman is completely full of shit" and she comes right back with "How about you believe what you want to believe and I will do the same." I replied, "OK, cool. Tell the lizard people I said 'Hey'." And then she unfriended me. I didn't say a word about Trump or even attempt to go there. 20 years of knowing each other down the tubes. Fast forward to this morning, I get a text. "Hey...looks like you were right. This woman is completely batshit LOL. My apologies!", and then sends me another friend request. My response: "Remember at my dad's 75th birthday party (last October, for reference) when you were all "Snowflake this, and snowflake that, libtards and fuck Hillary and all"? (Mind you, no one was really talking politics at this deal) You dropping me the way you did yesterday was about the snowflake-iest thing I've ever seen. My family's done more shit for you that you even care to remember...(she had a fuck load of trouble with Texas State dude, and we had a weekend place in New Braunfels and there was more than a few times when they'd have a blowout and she'd come by looking for a place to flop instead of driving home upset. If we were there, she was always invited to stay, and if we weren't, she knew where the Hide-A Key was)...and if this is how you treat a friend, go fucking pound sand. Don't contact me again." She comes back with "God...I'm just trying to apologize LOL", and I said "Is there a part of 'fuck right off' that you do not understand?", and that's been the last message so far. As I type this, the whole thing looks relentlessly childish, and it is. Social media fights are about the dumbest shit there is, and I wasn't spoiling for a fight yesterday. At first, it kinda smarted because we've known each other for a long fucking time, but then I came to the realization that this is how it is with the True Believers, and I'm better off with that shit not on my timeline.

  2. I see we are having the turn the cheek and be the better person conversation again. We've been the better person for forty plus years since Reagan made it cool to be a selfish prick, and every iteration of conservatives/gop is drastically worse than the previous one. They just fucked my snowflake feelings six ways from Sunday for 3 years and true to form, now that the temper tantrum is almost over, they need their back rub and comforting words. Shh shh shhh my little conservative, Biden's not black and he's not a socialist, everything is gonna be ok. Yeah fuck all that and fuck these people. It's time for them to grow the fuck up and be a better person. Admit they stand for nothing and have made conspiracy theories mainstream in order to fill the void. Apologize and make up for the past 20 years of Republican destruction. They never will. They need to be crushed and salted over or they're going to fucking end us all next time they come back even more vile than now.

  7. I believe there is a verse in the bible that says, "thou shalt not turn thy other cheek to stupid fucking morons" or something like that. Should we try and find common ground with the racists and wannabe Nazi's also? If someone wants to tell people that Covid is a hoax, Lizard people control the world, the earth is flat or vaccines cause autism then the people listening to them spout that crap out have the right to tell them they are full of shit.

  8. i know there are folks on "both sides" but i think you made the right call here (sorry was a couple pages late on reading your initial story). here was someone who was willing to throw away your "friendship" over a trump-adjacent "doctor" and her crazy opinion. she clearly had not vetted this person, because that's not what these people do. they latch onto something they barely know anything about, then defend it to the teeth against any and all comers. like you said, trump was not brought up, and she was the one who instigated the break in friendship (social media, or otherwise). if this was the hill she was willing to die on, then she needed to die on that hill. there was an article posted a couple months ago about "how do we reason with people who disagree with us (trump people)". the takeaway was that often these people lash out against those who try to reason with them, and this makes them hold more strongly the crazy beliefs you're trying to untangle with simple logic and facts. by trying to have a rational conversation with her (or others) you're just as likely to make her more resilient in her beliefs. so in this case, given your history, i say fuck it, you made the right call. with any luck, she'll examine her own ideas and opinions, and the nature with which she wields them, and wake the fuck up. if she cannot do this on her own, all the calm words in the world wouldn't make her permanently change her mind. it's a real shame, because i feel like we're all having moments like this. i have one really good friend in particular, and we have a 30+ year friendship. and he's one of these "trump is a child and he's terrible but he's goo with the economy and biden is in bed with china and aoc and hunter and spying on campaigns and blah blah". once i hear those buzzwords, i know that i can either change the subject, or put our friendship in jeopardy. i typically change the subject. when we mature, we can see how conversations are going to end before they start. i see it when i'm writing scripts. i know how a conversation that starts in the garage next to a wrecked car on page 12 is going to end on page 15. i know the emotions involved, and i know how each character is going to feel when it's over. i'm 11 years older than my wife, and it's very clear that i play out the conversations we have before i start them, and she doesn't. it's something you grow into. in my case, with my good friend, we both know it's better to avoid getting to the boiling point. but in your case, it sounds like this was the best remedy. people like her can be dealt with with some tough love and personal time to stew on it, or with calming, logical words. if you're not that close to her, the first option is the best option. sure, in a perfect world, ideas would win out. facts would win out. but we're in a world where we can't even agree to what constitutes a fucking fact. and that's the really depressing part of this. that's a problem now, and that will still be a problem on november 4th. and it's a problem without a solution. this isn't like lord of the rings where one thing dies and everything controlled by it kinda disappears (i only saw it once, i don't really like that genre). we need to win in november and win big. we need to make sure the reasonable people in all of our lives vote. that is more than enough. send them videos made by dems and never-trumpers. send them silly trump tweets and unedited videos. make them angry. show them what is happening in down-ballot races, house and senate, and how truly terrible some of these people are (i just read the perdue story with the anti-semitic ad). put it in front of them, and shame them if you have to. not everyone can be saved. you wanna save someone, save yourself, and go from there.

  13. Well, that is how marketing works. The idea is we're helping our best players develop marketable identities, like "Call In" Johnson or Sterns as the Wolf of DKR. Plus tie-ins with guys like McConaghey to launch them into the NFL.

  14. Loochi is typing up his first draft now... “The cowardice of the Big 10 has forced A&M to face one of the hardest schedules in the country for a second year in a row. A&M was poised to make a championship run in Jimbo Fisher’s 3rd year, but with A&M adding huge games against SEC East power Florida and the always dangerous Missouri, the Aggies task became that much harder. With the Aggies retuning its star QB in Kellen Mond, all SEC TE Jalen Wydermer, and a stacked defense run by Elko, they have a chance to make a special season. If they can manage to navigate this daunting all SEC schedule, with huge games against the likes of Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and LSU, if the Aggies could go 2-2 or even 3-1, then Jimbo Fisher and the Ags will have a chance at the playoffs, and primed for a championship run in 2021, or 2022 or 2023.”

  17. No. I love him at DT. He's a spread-killer. He and Jonathon Jones (Mizzzou commit) are both guys that I think fit the physical profile of Herman era takes. Very athletic, very sudden, big frame, lean with good balance/body control. The fact that Iwunnah is athletic enough to triple jump right at 40' as a 275 pound guys is mystifying. Freak.

I don't care if you leave or not, but I will pretty much guarantee that 0.0 people in this thread give any fucks about your opinion on anything. and not really sure why you care about our opinion on anything either. I have never got the point of entering other teams thread .....regardless what sport. The real reason is only to troll. You can get any wanted news worthy shit off twitter for any team.

  19. You know, it’s ok to denounce and not try to defend the fringe elements of your political views. I would hope rational conservatives would try to distance themselves from the alt-right and white supremacy people who hijack their message. It’s ok to say you don’t agree with the Antifa message or anarchy going on in Portland and Seattle. I don’t think it makes you any less sympathetic to the BLM movement or the fight to end systemic racism. Everyone should be trying to move away from the radical ends of the political spectrum and back towards some middle ground.

  20. Don't blame you at all for your response. Must have been infuriating, and there's a very good chance I would've done the same thing. But at some point, we're going to have to reconcile with each other. Someone has to be the one to turn the other cheek or at least change the subject to one on common ground. There is just way too much division, and your ex-friend might now seek refuge in the same bullshit to salve her bruised ego. When she came back to you to apologize, she was open to hearing your point of view, and with a little effort and encouragement from you, she might have made a big change in her life. Apologizing isn't easy and takes some amount of character, so she's not totally lost. Again, this is not a criticism. It's easy for me to sit here and type this after reading your story as a random person on the internet. I might not have had the patience to practice what I preach if I were in your shoes. In fact I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have. This is difficult. I want the schism to shrink but it takes a superhero level of mental strength to do that.

  21. I am actually glad to know that the NYPD is taking tampering with police cameras so seriously. I assume that the next cop that tampers with a body cam or has a body cam "malfunction" is going to get rolled up on and kidnapped in broad daylight by internal affairs? Right?

  24. Slow, careful government is best. We don't want one side running roughshod over the other, at least when both sides are principled. We want what comes from hashing things out and probably bitter compromise. That could be called "gridlocky." Total fucking gridlock, like we have, is equivalent to one side running roughshod over the other. No es bueno.

  25. My point is...why post it at all? So some dudes on the internet could agree with you that you don't wanna bang her anymore? Cool cool coolcoolcool. Very hip. Very surly. [emoji849] Your description of how far gone politically she is was enough. You didn't need to drag her physical appearance into this, much less post an actual photo. Would you have done the same if it was an old guy friend of yours?

  27. This is one of the most damaging myths perpetuated by the right over the last 20 years. It’s part of the same nonsense that Republicans spew about the federal government. GOP - “The federal government is terrible, horrible, bad and no good!” GOP takes control of the federal government and runs it into the ground by decimating necessary agencies, cuts funding while simultaneously demanding more responsibilities, run off career non-political civil servants and then refuse to fill empty positions, etc. GOP - “SEE!!! We told you the federal government sucks!”

  28. We now have consistent data that shows that patients who are 10 days past the start of their symptoms and have improved symptoms along with no fever (without medication) in the last 24 hours of their illness are non-contagious. The prolonged viral shedding hysteria has been overblown since the beginning. This is consistent with the new CDC recommendations. This is consistent with most other RNA viral illness. The PCR testing picks up viral fragments well below the threshold of contagious viral shedding so it is a poor tool for release to work or school and a huge waste of limited resources not to mention you get your brain stabbed everytime you get a test.

  34. One year old this spring... Jax is his name, he’s a river dog, he loves balls but not like you’d expect from a retriever mix, he says what can you expect I’m 75% poodle. I say that’s right you’re a poo dog alright. He loves the water, hadn’t been around a pool much because we moved to a rental while our new home is being built. Hoping he’s a pool dog too. He’s super sweet, doesn’t understand violence, plays with his cousin every morning, she lives around the corner, he circle wags his tail when anyone of his pack mates come home and his momma will insist on taking him everywhere. He loves a belly rub from his other momma, loves to kiss and give everyone a face washing in the morning. The sun coming up is his favorite part of the day and he loves everyone.
