  1. I like to make fun of aggy as much as the next guy, but perfect attendance at the learning center is an impressive achievement. You don’t get that for just showing up.

  2. This creates one of the best examples of irony in modern times. Millions of people have boycotted their favorite sports, literally their favorite pasttimes, because they thought black athletes were being disrespectful to the military by kneeling during the anthem. And those same millions are still gonna vote for Donald Trump after he's explained in no uncertain terms that he thinks the military are a bunch of fools and losers. It's breathtaking and heartbreaking to watch how irredeemably stupid this country has become.

  4. As an Army brat that grew up reading Beetle Bailey in the Stars & Stripes and having a small touchstone to the United States while living overseas, this is fucking enraging. The Stars & Stripes bookstores on base are where I was able to get my nerd on. Fuck this thin-skinned bitch a million times over.

  5. There is a certain amount of patriotism fatigue that set in. I don't remember all of the particulars, but only 3-5 years ago, there was a hub bub with Jerry Jones charging some extra $ at a Cowboys game for some "troop appreciation" ceremony. By that time we had already been at war for 10+ years with no end in sight. Perhaps I am a little bit skeptical, being that I played in high school and college bands during the Reagan and Bush I years and during that time of the waning cold we we kind of had to manufacture some battle weary troops, and we did. Now there is no shortage. Not to mention we still have holdover first responder fatigue from 9/11. I had a cousin of mine who was female firefighter that died in a McDonald's fire in Houston back in 2000. She has all but been forgotten. I guess the Pixar film "The Incredible's" said it best : "when everyone is special, no one is special." I am not even really sure what I am trying to say except that when you are at war all of the time on one front or the other, you kind of lose your bearing. I am not a rah rah flag waiving kind of guy, but I respect military sacrifice. In fact here is a story: CSB: I had an uncle that died a few years ago that was an old Navy guy. He was in his 80s, lived a good life and raised a great family. His wife (my aunt)asked me to play TAPS at his internment, which I did, but it was not easy. I had been out of practice for a few years as I had switched instruments to classical guitar from trumpet. I had been given enough notice to get my chops in shape. I was kind of pissed about it because my oldest son is a pro trumpet player, but he was not going to be able to make it. On top of that there were expectations. Even though I was never a professional trumpet player, I had played for many family weddings free of charge. So I practiced every day for weeks. So finally the day came and I get to the cemetery and am immediately escorted over to the color guard where I have to hang out and get the schedule. The color guard were a bunch of old dudes who do this stuff all of the time, but I could tell this was pretty much old hat and no big deal for them. Pretty much paint by the numbers for them. It was a Catholic ceremony and when the time came I did my deal and tried to give a really meaningful rendition of TAPS. This was my uncle after all and I really liked the guy and I had put in a bunch of hard work to do this. As I played, I could feel the gravity of the event. The fact that it was me playing it, and not some hired gun, did make a difference. It was all I could do to not get choked up while playing. Once that was done there were a few more words and the ceremony was over. Once we were done, the whole family was scheduled to go down to Port A for a family reunion, so I was expecting a few light comments and a few lets get the fuck out of here to go drink beer on the beach type of thing. What happened was something completely different. I was greeted by person after person with red eyes and snot running sown their noses to thank me for paying an adequate tribute to a good family man that never saw combat. Even the salty color guard guys came up to me afterwards with tears in their eyes with compliments. The point is not that I gave a stirring rendition of TAPS. The point is that our vets mean something to this country and that they deserve better than some jack off ceremony at Cowboys stadium or some paint by the numbers color guard bullshit....and they certainly deserve better than the Commander in Chief minimizing their contributions. Upon reading, I know this it almost sounds like one of Trump's BS stories or an aggy visiting team story, but it is not. It was real and spectacular in unexpected ways and I am glad to have been a part of it as it lessened my doubt in humanity. Fuck Trump and God bless the USA and our military personnel and Fuck you Surly Horns if you think this is just BS. Out.

  6. PRO: Good get off on the snap. Superior body control and attacks the ball away from his body. Love the way he turns up field after the catch to rack up that YAC. CON: Seems easily distracted. At this point, unsure of how his frame will fill out. Would love to have some testing numbers and measurements, but #COVID. No film against press coverage. How it affects Texas: As a legacy, you'd assume Texas has the early lead here, despite the actions of recent legacies that shall remain unnamed. As a Shipley legacy, however, his place and his roommate at Texas are essentially a foregone conclusion. Currently, he's the lone WR target on the board for the class of 2034. Texas may wait to see some Pop Warner senior film before accepting his commitment, but this seems more like a when, not if. Mike Roach: Buzz with sources close to this recruitment have me close to putting in a Crystal Ball pick for his father Jaxon. Still need to do some more digging to confirm what we're hearing.

  7. fuck all that. We've got a lot of problems to deal with. Most of us(the overwhelming majority) are good people trying to make a living, raise a family, have a little slice of the dream and enjoy the freedoms and opportunity of America. Take a breath and go for a fucking walk for Christ sake.

  11. There are a plethora of lingering issues caused by Covid. And after experiencing this pandemic now for going on six months, this country has yet to wake up and get control of it--or to account for all of the medical probs its causing down the road. Most are heart and lung related. A not insubstantial number of football careers are going to come to a screeching halt for kids who had covid and got "over" it, only to be damaged by the sequelae (some of which we know and some we don't yet). The entire endeavor to force football this year is selfish on the part of the schools and anyone pushing for it. If CFB even makes it to the end of the season and we have one, two, a handful of player deaths, are people going to be in here justifying it? Of course. And it's pretty sickening. And yes, I will watch the games if they are on. But I'd prefer they weren't for the players' sake.

  12. Well fuck me, I'm going to be pallbearer at a funeral tomorrow in deep East Texas. Aside from the fact that funerals are one of the last places you should be during a pandemic, it comes right before my son starts fourth grade in AISD with a pod of three other boys. I've already told the family that I'm going to be extra cautious -- mask on at all times, no hugging or hand shakes, hand sanitizer, keeping my distance -- and asked that they don't confuse the need to be safe with me being unfriendly or stand-offish. At least they're making it a private, family-only (and in East Texas, that means about 30-40 people), outdoor gravesite service. Oh, and for extra-good measure, it's the funeral for my ex-wife's grandmother, who died at 103. She was actually more like a grandmother to me than my actual blood grandparents. She loved me so much that the family never told her about the divorce because they thought it would kill her. When she was going downhill a few weeks ago I called her to say my good-bye, and she was talking as if I was still married for to her granddaughter, so I just went along with the lie. That fucking sucked. I might have leaned against attending the funeral, but her son -- my former father-in-law -- said she specifically said before she died that she wanted me to be a pallbearer. Fuck you, COVID.

  13. This is not the thread for this but I refuse to post on the football board. I was having drinks tonight with an Aggie among others and the topic of Kellen Mond came up. Of course the Aggie thought he was mediocre and that with a real SEC quarterback they would beat Bama and blah blah blah. That got me thinking and now I have convinced myself that Mond is very good and cool. He has been getting the shit kicked out of him for two years and hasn’t missed a start. He runs a fucking cave man offense that was stale 15 years ago and has to answer to a grown man named Jimbo who hasn’t paid attention in 5 years. He has good skill players around him but is defended by a row of perfect cubes and former recruits all told they would be starting at LT. Every time he takes his 8 step drop back he is immediately swarmed by the biggest and most athletic dlinemen in the country. Then at the end of every fucking game the offense turns into “please fucking save us Kellen Mond” and he has to limp around covered in grass and try to hold on. When he misses a pass over the middle 100,000 rednecks all start chirping about he doesn’t have “it” like Johnny did. As soon as he makes a benign comment about wanting change in CFB and maybe for police to stop mowing down unarmed black people the redasses lose their god damn minds and start calling for him to be benched in favor of a tiny Sicilian man who last played 1A football and a cancer patient that played like a cancer patient his senior season. Kellen Mond is a god damn national hero. There should be football stadiums and highways named after him. I hope he kicks ass and Aggie sucks and he has a 10 year NFL career as a backup.

  15. I didn't misunderstand a thing. Your retort was asinine because it had no relationship to reality while his pointed to the fundamental hypocrisy of a governor from a party, whose platform traditionally embraces the decentralization of government, threatening to impose State police enforcement over a local municipality because he doesn't agree with that locality's policy. In other words, Gil's statement was a poignant pin prick that burst the bubble of a foundational belief for a party. Yours, on the other hand, had no basis in reality and only revealed yourself to be a butthurt bitch.

  19. The highest ranking official of one of the two major parties within this state is proposing legislation whereby the State would take over the law enforcement activities within a locality. The party to which that official belongs espouses local control as one of its core beliefs. Yeah, Gil Bang put a label to that party and called out the obvious hypocrisy. You, on the other hand, respond with an affirmative statement that the other party is in favor of murder. Name a single official of that other party who has ever stated, "I am for murder in Portland." Defend that statement or be proven a liar. This does belong in the CR, but you've demonstrated a willingness to exchange partisan ideas and bias outside of it now. So, I fully expect that you'll be willing to discuss your statement with evidence in the appropriate place when this thread is relocated. If not, I can only assume that you are a full-of-shit coward.

  21. That’s complete bullshit. Y’all dodged SMU once, refusing to play them as your OOC game. They even said they would move the game to FW and STILL play in FW next year as well. Y’all chose Tenn Tech instead of the 100th game vs SMU. And only after they cancelled did you agree to play SMU. Has everything to do with SMU beating y’all last year and projected to be good.

  22. Sure, it's indisputable Trump disparaged McCain's service in Vietnam and suffered no repercussions from his base. Sure, it's indisputable Trump is lying when he denies he called McCain a loser. Sure, it's indisputable has repeatedly taken false credit for Veterans Choice. But would Donald Trump do something we already know he has indisputably and unapologetically done in the past? Color me skeptical.

Very easy and very nice. We got it passed, okay. Look, I think he was a great guy, but let's face it, okay, maybe not so great. But I got it done very easily. And you look at the spying on my campaign. Why not jail? But we did a great thing with Social Security."

Me: I think you are exaggerating. Her: Oh ya? You should keep track then. Me: Ok, I will. Me: That's one for one. Her: ??????? Me: One for one. You suggested I keep track and I agreed. One for one.
