  1. This arrogant mother fucker really thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and thinks they are losing because of lack of effort and self inflicted wounds. We gave him a fucking do over. It was highly suggested to him that we move to the air raid and Graham Harrell had fucking proven that he could take a backup USC QB and an offense that was in much worse shape than Texas and turn it around. You know what that stupid fuck Tom Herman did? He did everything possible to make sure that wouldn't happen. Because if he did, it would be an admission that his "pro spread" offense doesn't work anymore. Instead, he hired another fucking yes man. I don't know enough about Yurcich... but I know that he was the first guy in the interview process to say, sure, I'll run your offense... we'll even keep the terminology the same. This is THE SAME FUCKING OFFENSE. It has more slants and vertical routes. That's about fucking it. What does he do about the WR position? He fires his butt buddy Mehringer who destroyed that WR room and legit fucking whiffed on all the interviews. We fucking settled for Andre Coleman, an analyst. Andre Coleman had no other job offers. Andre Coleman who has not proven himself at all with being able to recruit good talent. Based on the ressults on the field, seems like all of our talented players in Eagles and Smith have CLEARLY regregressed. On defense, he hired another buddy Chris Ash. There wasn't even a fucking defensive coaching search. Legit, he hired his buddy. Then went on to hire Mark fucking Hagen who was fired at aggy for sucking it up. What does Mark Hagen bring to Texas? Recruiting? Coaching? What does he bring? He should have been fucking fired last year. No decent coordinators come to jump on board a sinking ship. This is why yet again, we have a poor fucking staff of coaches that cannot develop or coach compared to our big 12 foes. .... Now let's talk about player personnel. This is the same guy that started Garrett fucking Gray and Kyle Porter at the same time. Now we are seeing it with Cade Brewer and our stupid fucking 11 personnel. We fucking handicap ourselves. We're basically playing 10 vs 11. No fucking defense respects Cade Brewer because he fucking sucks. He's a below average blocker and a fucking terrible running routes and in space. We have a huge athletic miss match in Jared Wiley that simply needs to be coached up. Look at the mismatch Austin Stogner is and what he was able to do against us. Does anyone have any doubt that Wiley would kill it in Riley's offense? Instead of running 2 RB sets or 4 WR sets, we insist on running 11 personnel. Nothing has changed. Nothing. We gave this guy a blank fucking check last year. He's so fucking arrogant, that he took that blank check and hired another set of friends and yes men and changed nothing. Fuck you CDC. Good leaders don't give failures a 2nd opportunity. You've put our program in worse place than you inherited it. There is little fan support. There is no player unity. Coaches are checked out. Recruiting is in the fucking toilet. I'm not sure even Urban can fix the 2021 recruiting class. We're fighting with Baylor, SMU, and G5 schools for scraps. I'm so sick of it. Fire this asshole and make Ash interim HC. He's at least been a HC at a power 5 school, even if it was the worst P5 school in the country. Give Urban whatever he wants. Start selling the future. We have to! There is no other choice. There is no way to pull us out of this other than a slam dunk hire. You will not convince elite recruits to come here to play for Matt fucking Campbell or PJ Fleck. We have to sell something better than LSU, ou, Bama, Clemson, tOSU, aggy. We've dug ourselves such a hole that we're closer to being Nebraska and Cal Berkley than the current elite schools Rant over... fuck everything.

We are not average. We are among the worst in the developed world. And we are because we have no strategy for dealing with this pandemic from the standpoint of mitigating its affect on the health of Americans. We only have a strategy aimed at mitigating the political cost of the pandemic to the President. This was a choice made by our Sociopath-in-Chief to give himself the best chance to be re-elected. A choice made knowing that it would cost of hundreds of thousands of more dead Americans than if he followed the recommendations of experts in the field. He is on tape, telling whoever would listen, that he knew this in the first week of February. Less than 3 weeks after that first reported case on January 20th. That you, an obviously intelligent person, could start to overlook this horrific failing shows why people like Brisket, myself and others are still concerned that Trump will be able to engineer a win in spite of all undiluted data pointing to him being the overseer of a massive and unnecessary loss of life.

  3. Yes. There were kids in cages under Obama. As to your question, if I may rephrase it someone, of "whether there is a difference between a (1) negligent action that causes a small number of kids to be put in cages for a short period of time before being reunified with their parents and (2) a policy borne of malice with the intent that a much larger number of children be taken from their parents, put in cages for an indeterminate period of time, and then not reunified with their parents because we purposefully lost the paperwork to do so," my answer is . . . are you motherfucking kidding me with that type of #bothsides false equivalence bullshit?

  4. Here is how it should go. You fire Herman and hire urban within a couple of weeks. Tag an interim head coach to finish out the year. let urban start his recruiting so we can salvage the 2021 class. After season is completed Urban notifies which coaches will be dismissed and if any will be retained. Urban brings in his guys January or whenever and starts fresh in the spring.

  8. The spanking analogy doesn’t hold and is, quite frankly, dumb. The kids put in cages by the Trump administration aren’t being “punished” to correct their behavior - they’re being punished to influence the behavior of their parents. If I think my neighbor doesn’t keep his yard clean enough, is it okay for me to whip his kids to make him cut his grass? The Trump administration is yanking babies away from mothers in order to deter immigrants from crossing the border with their children. Any attempt to rationalize that or both-sides it is gross.

  10. The Eyes won't be done for this exact reason. I remember when people laughed at me in June when I said The Eyes protest (especially if combined with shitty football) will have massive economic repercussions. Well it's happening. Donations are being pulled left and right. People that cancelled season Tix due to COVID but opted to either role those funds into a donation or roll them into a credit for next year are now demanding a refund. Tom Herman (and CDC for allowing it to happen) have screwed this up more than I could have ever imagined. You don't want to sing the song? Fine, but it's not hard to mandate, as a team rule, that win or lose you stand in front of the student body and put your horns up in solidarity as a team/school and as a sign of respect to the students and fans supporting you. I was in the stands Saturday and watching that shitty team Sam carried on his back leave him out there alone was a lower point than any of the Stoops beatdowns I've witnessed in that stadium. Truly pathetic. And I blame CDC and Herman for letting that happen. CDC for not foreseeing what a shit show this would become, and Herman for being such a shit leader that there is absolute zero team unity. Just a bunch of individuals playing for themselves. Say what you want about Mack Brown, and I was as ready for him to go as anyone, but that NEVER would have happened under his watch.

  11. You're mostly wrong here. After Obama announced DACA, the Latin American rumor mill (which included some of their actual media outlets) misstated the effect as being that kids were allowed to stay. They didn't get the nuance that it had to be kids who were brought in by their parents before the policy went into effect. The result was that a whole bunch of parents in Latin America packed up their kids--some of whom were exceedingly young--and sent them on their way north in the expectation that, once they crossed the border, they'd be "Dreamers" and get to stay. That, by the way, was completely predictable. And I criticized the Obama Administration bitterly for it, if anybody recalls. And the result was equally predictable--Border Patrol started picking up tons of unaccompanied minors. And they had nothing to do with them. So they put them in detention (although for a reasonably short period of time until their cases could be adjudicated). Nonetheless, it was an outcome that was completely predictable and wholly avoidable but for the Obama Administration's short-sightedness and bungling. But--that is very different from the Trump Administration policy of child-separation. Under the Trump policy, children are taken from their parents who accompanied them across the border and thrown in cages. As reported by The New York Times last week, senior DOJ officials--including Sessions and Rosenstein--created this policy to be as draconian as possible in an effort to deter people from immigrating to the United States. That's not the continuation of any Obama Administration policy. That's an entirely new policy.

  12. I don't know why any of us care about this process. She could stand up and say "I will only rule in cases however the Chosen One, decreed to rule lesser men by the Lord God on high, Donald J. Trump, tells me to rule, and also, I will do all I can to ensure that women are not allowed to vote," none of it matters. This is a sham hearing, being held only to meet the minimum legal requirement. She's in, we know what we're getting. Win the election, then pack the court. That's the game that's been declared. Play it. Escalate it to whatever degree necessary, because once the governor is off, its off. Win.

  13. This was an extremely stupid article. They’re basically just blaming CDC for not making the players sing the Eyes. It’s not nearly that simple, especially with a coach who has/had a tenuous grasp on the team. An AD can’t just come into the locker room and mandate they sing the Eyes. If he tried that, everything would have gone to shit, and everyone except a few old white dudes would be blaming CDC for ruining the season. I get that lots of boosters are mad about the Eyes, but it isn’t some massive failing of CDC. He’s had good and bad so far. Let him do his job and identify and hire the next HC and then judge his performance based on that.

  16. No--it's entirely false. It really is. It's like the City having a policy of euthanizing dogs in the pound after they've been there for more than 14 days, and then adopting a new ordinance that dogs are banned within city limits, sending cops around to every house, taking every dog from its owner, and shooting the dog. But, but, but--the City was always killing dogs. It's just a continuation of that policy. No--it's really not.

  17. athletic director Chris Del Conte is failing at his job. There is no other way to put it. It is hard to sugarcoat. Impossible to ignore.Oh, Del Conte is good at telling jokes at fundraisers. He has a great sense of humor. If you want to drink and hear a guy tell jokes, Del Conte can provide entertainment that rivals any comedian on open mic night. Heck, Del Conte’s biggest achievement was creating Bevo Blvd., a lively street with food trucks, music and alcohol. Del Conte was responsible for creating concerts after Longhorn home games, prior to the pandemic, of course. Del Conte definitely knows how throw a damn good party. When it comes to making hard decisions about his coaching staff (dating back to TCU), leading an athletic department, or preventing The Eyes of Texas tradition from becoming arguably the most divisive issue between fans and players in school history, Del Conte is doing nothing to justify earning $2.5 million annually until 2027.Del Conte has created this chaos. He has to do a better job of finding solutions.Texas was defeated by Oklahoma, 53-45 (four overtimes), on Saturday. Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley currently has a 4-1 record against Texas’ Tom Herman. Texas could not defeat one of the worst Oklahoma programs in recent memory. We saw Riley bench his starting quarterback, the ultimate surrender decision, and the same guy was reinserted after halftime and led his team to victory. The Longhorns are 2-2, but it took a miracle comeback against Texas Tech to prevent a 1-3 start. Texas recovered the onside kick and pulled off a victory when it had less than a one-percent chance of winning with around three minutes remaining. Nobody can take the win off Texas’ record. However, it helps to remember how fortunate this team is not to be 0-3 in the Big 12 right now. After the game, Herman looked defeated. He reminded me of the President who aged dramatically after four years in office. Herman did not have any answers. He talked about how great practice was last Sunday in an effort to show how close his program is to winning football games like this. The coach did not understand his fan base is more concerned about the product they are witnessing each Saturday. This is the moment when you save a fighter from himself. Herman is not winning the way he or the fan base desires. Recruiting is not going well. Literally, a player quit during the middle of a game this season. Longhorn fans are pissed about his team’s lack of participation in The Eyes of Texas. Herman will not throw in the towel, but I sensed if Del Conte tapped him on the shoulder after Saturday’s game and said they should discuss an exit plan, deep down, Herman might be relieved to get out of this situation. That is just my opinion and nothing I heard from my sources.Herman was originally under contract until 2021, which meant both sides could have happily parted ways after this season.Instead, Del Conte gave Herman a two-year extension in 2019, months after the Sugar Bowl victory. Herman is still slated to make $6.25 million in 2021, and Del Conte added $6.5 million in 2022 and $6.75 million in 2023. This is the equivalent of staying married until the children graduate from high school.By the way, Del Conte also gave running backs coach Stan Drayton and offensive lineman coach Herb Hand raises back in May. Drayton was bumped up from $640,000 to $700,000. Hand’s salary increased from $515,000 to $650,000.Only $19.5 million for Herman’s contract, plus add in a little extra for his assistants?Just ask those big money donors to cut a check, right? You mean the same people who are ticked off about players not participating in The Eyes of Texas? Photo via HookEm.comI received multiple messages from sources this weekend saying the athletic department has lost at least $25 million in pledges in the past two weeks. That number may not be 100 percent accurate, but longtime fans are withholding their financial support.By the way, Del Conte expected several donors to cut checks for the south endzone project in December. The completion of that project is in trouble at this rate.Del Conte should have resolved this issue before the season. In July, Texas President Jay Hartzell rolled out a comprehensive set of proposals to create a more diverse and welcoming campus, including plans to allocate Athletics’ revenue to recruit and support Black students, rename the Robert L. Moore Building, and honor Black trailblazers at UT through new campus symbols. Hartzell said the university would keep “The Eyes of Texas” as the university’s song but would work to own the history of the song while reclaiming and redefining what the song stands for.“The Eyes of Texas, in its current form, will continue to be our alma mater. Aspects of its origin, whether previously widely known or unknown, have created a rift in how the song is understood and celebrated, and that must be fixed,” Hartzell said in a press release. “It is my belief that we can effectively reclaim and redefine what this song stands for by first owning and acknowledging its history in a way that is open and transparent.“Together, we have the power to define what the Eyes of Texas expect of us, what they demand of us, and what standard they hold us to now. The Eyes of Texas should not only unite us, but hold all of us accountable to our institution’s core values. But we first must own the history. Only then can we reimagine its future, and I look forward to partnering with our campus community to do just that.”At that point, the controversy should have been over. The President did his part. Dr. Leonard Moore successfully talked players out of boycotting the season and was no longer involved in any athletic discussions. Longhorn players openly applauded the initiatives. I thought it was a very fair compromise for everyone involved.Del Conte’s task was simple.Inform the players they need to resume participating in the tradition. They did not have to sing the song, but he expected them to stay after games.Simple.Instead, Del Conte never expressed his expectations with student-athletes, which is why there has been chaos. Many cheerleaders did not participate in The Eyes during Texas’ recent home game against TCU. Several band members have said they will not play the song. The football team – black and white players – have skipped the tradition this season. The volleyball team recently stayed on the court but did not acknowledge the song. That administrative failure is on Del Conte.I know some fans are blaming the “woke” generation or “social justice warriors” for what is occurring right now. I get that frustration. Nobody wants to be labeled a racist when those sentiments are not in their heart. Fans view this song as a tradition. They played the song at weddings, parties, and it was a source of school pride. I understand the anger.Yet, I look at how other athletic departments across the country handled the current climate better than Del Conte.Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard threatened to boycott all team activities after a tweet surfaced of coach Mike Gundy wearing a One America News Network T-shirt. I was not convinced Gundy could prevent a player revolt.Yet, they put those issues aside and unified.Oklahoma football players decided not to practice and marched for social and racial justice. That could have ripped apart the team. Instead, there were several productive conversations between players, administrators and coaches. In addition, the athletic department decided to place a “Black Lives Matter” and “Sooners for Humanity” patch on team jerseys this season.Texas?Del Conte told the football staff this week they had to participate in the tradition after games to show respect to their fans. Unfortunately, Del Conte did not have a conversation with players and express his expectations. He definitely has done nothing to publicly express any solutions to the fan base.As a result, Sam Ehlinger and Cameron Dicker were the only players I saw participating in The Eyes after the Oklahoma loss, while everyone else was in the locker room. That was unacceptable. If Del Conte can receive credit for creating a carnival atmosphere, he has to be accountable for this circus.Del Conte should tap Herman on the shoulder this week and express the importance of finishing this season 8-2, or at least 7-3, because Longhorn fans are tired of losing. In addition, Del Conte should sit down with players in every sport and express his expectations. I am not saying Del Conte needs to bang the table in anger. Instead, he has to be the leader Texas needs at this moment.Del Conte has created this chaos. He has to do a better job of finding solutions.

  18. So you don't vote. And you don't know what's going on in your own country, including what your government is doing in your name to young children. And you're a white, Christian, straight man, lucky enough to have a job in which you can drive around in a camper with no roof all year. But despite your avoidance of any knowledge or responsibility for what's going on in your own country, you're going to criticize others as "bed wetters." Must be nice to be so secure in your views, with so little actual awareness.

I heard it straight from DKR's mouth on a SW flight. he sat right across from me when SW used to have those seating areas that faced each other. He also drew on a piece of paper what UCLA did to Mackovic during rout 66.

  20. Nahlin: Tom Herman: In case you couldn’t tell, Tom Herman is in very hot water. His seat began to warm last year but Chris Del Conte decided to support Herman revitalizing the coaching staff. After a 2-2 start that should be 1-3, Herman has very little chance of saving his tenure. The 25% chance I gave him of keeping his job on Saturday was generous as I worked to find out more. After further discussions I give him much less of a chance. Read between the lines.

  22. Upon further reflection and thinking about this more today and listening to the Horn on radio I have come to the conclusion this Eyes shitshow is 100 percent Tom Herman’s fault. First of all if he wasn’t such a shitty coach and we won a game OU and the football gods were desperately trying to give us almost nobody would give a shit. Putting that fact aside, as Rod B said on the radio, how can you as the head coach not have a plan as to how to address this? It’s important to the alumni, it’s important to the fans, the players don’t like it, and you just fucking Let it Ride? Hope it all works out? Its actually a pretty good microcosm of the entire program. No attention to details unless it’s the color of your piss. Multiple penalties. Bonehead coaching decisions. Binders calling plays. Bonehead on the field decisions. Time for a change.

That considered, that was a decade ago. Has the guy matured, gotten better contacts and resources, and developed a sense of integrity when it comes to reporting? I hope so. People can change. In an ironic twist, you can now damned sure trust info on stuff like this coming from IT based on changes made this summer. So, sure, take some heart that Nahlin is comparing notes and going with info from multiple confirmed sources.

A little weird that Sam is taking fire given he's pretty much asked to be Colt McCoy out there in 2009 with no running game, receivers that don't get open, an OL that barely blocks, and a coaching staff that doesn't put him in any position to be successful. Sam is the least of our problems and the difference between a loss in 4OT and getting blown out by 14+. Could Sam improve, sure? I think he's hit his ceiling and he certainly doesn't have the weapons to be better.
