  1. After the National Championship game, Texas came after Ewers HARD. Jeff Banks offered trips to strip clubs and/or the zoo. AJ Milwee charmed Quinn with his perfectly coiffed hair and whispered lies about downfield passing into his ear. Stan Drayton was the most relentless of all - never stopping or once resting on his couch, showing off his legendary work ethic in an all-out pursuit of Quinn. Steve Sarkisian said that Quinn could start from day one. He told Quinn that Big 12 defenses are made up of slow and weak former junior college players, not like the strong and sturdy defenses he'd face in the Big 10. He said that Texas would start a 24/7 Quinn Ewers TV network with the help of ESPN. He offered fame, fortune, a penthouse condo overlooking The Salt Lick, and women romancing each other. But Quinn Ewers looked at his family. And he looked at the two photos of Jesus and Woody Hayes sitting on the humble Ewers family mantle. And then he looked up at Coach Ryan Day with tears in his eyes and said, "coach, I want to be an Ohio State Buckeye for life." And that recruit's name was Albert Einstein.

  2. I think the issue is nobody is saying what you think they're saying and you're not saying what you think you're saying.

  4. This thread is for those who need actual serious help because they are in a dangerous situation without electricity, food etc. There are 2 other threads for snarky bullshit comments, as a community lets come together and make sure that our fellow surly posters get the help they need if they actually need it. The title is meant to be literal, if your home is below 40F inside and you do not have a plan or wood to burn etc and your life is in danger reach out for help.

  5. We have heat, hot water, no extra beds but PM me, we are in 78735 and near critical infrastructure it seems (wastewater plant half a mile away). We can figure out couches etc. No OU fans. J/k I’m serious don’t freeze.

  6. "Something Mack brainwashed..." the fuck? You do realize that Texas had a football team before Mack arrived, yes? And we were everyone's big game then, too. Even through the 80s and 90s, going all the way back to DKR. Beating us, even through our darkest years, was everyone's biggest game. "This was the biggest win in Rice football." --1994, for example So yes, the world did exist in the times before you became aware of Texas football, and we were everyone's big game then, too.

  8. Mattress Mac has always been on the front line, helping out during every tough spot that Houston has encountered. Why throw out comments like that on something you know absolutely nothing about? Plus he’s a longhorn football letterman. Maybe you should think about cutting down on your prodigious post count and focus a little more on making quality posts.

  10. -1 F outside. It is 41 in my house. We have been without power since 9 last night. It's a goddamn mess and people are already dead. Because Texas couldn't have the federal government telling us what to do. Maybe it's time.

  11. I’ve got no power or water and the only generator I have is being used to power my laptop so I can look at Surly. My family keeps begging me to let them plug in a hot plate but I explained that Sark is on a recruiting tear and I need by the minute updates.

  12. This is 100% real: Ohio State 247 site on Ewers: “Right after [Alabama won the national championship and Sarkisian was hired] they made a push,” a Texas-based source said. “[Texas] They was feeling confident they could get back in. But Quinn and his family shut that down right away. They told [Sarkisian], ‘Thanks, but no thanks’ they were sticking with Ohio State. Nothing they can do to change his mind. So [Texas] went to work on [5-star QB Malik] Murphy.” Texas received a verbal commitment from 5-star Californian Malik Murphy on Saturday. And we have since learned differing schematics among the Ohio State and Texas offensive approaches further strengthens the chance Ewers ultimately matriculates to Columbus. “Sarkisian did some great, innovative things [at Alabama],” our source said. “But for Quinn, it’s not the best possible bit. Lots of bubble screens and receivers in motion to receive 5-yard dump offs. Quinn and his family believe [Ryan] Day is a better QB coach with an offense predicated on stretching the field. That fits what Quinn wants because it’ll get him more NFL ready.” Solid reasoning, we’d say.

  13. Regulation is socialism. Socialism is bad. Do you want to be like Venezuela? The free market will solve this. If you’re upset that you don’t have heat or running water and that people will die from exposure inside their own homes, just remember that it was all worth it because we have all the AR15s our hearts desire and it’s nearly impossible to get an abortion in the state.

  14. Not sure why it’s relevant but I did! So did my dad and grandfather. I could ask him if Mack Brown invented the lie that Texas is a big game for everyone but I don’t want to get called a fucking idiot by my 90 year old grandad. Ok, sorry everyone I’m done with this dolt. I won’t clutter the thread up further.

  15. When are people going to realize that Tucker Carlson is not a real person? He's a persona. He makes truckloads of money by playing a part on tv and stirring the pot and he doesn't even believe his own bullshit. He's the news version of Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless. And you can substitute any other "personality" on Fox News for Tucker Carlson above. And if you come in here trying to blame this fiasco on "the Libs" because that what's you heard from Tucker or anyone else in conservative media, you are part of the problem. The biggest part of the problem, in fact. Please sterilize yourselves in case a woman ever accidentally gets drunk enough to fuck you.

  19. You understand that supply being significantly diminished is the issue here? Demand is high, yes, but supply plummeted due to a complete and utter lack of preparation and complete incompetence. This isn't just run of the mill bitching about rolling blackouts, this isn't transmission lines down, this is complete fucking criminal incompetence and negligence. There are issues, while expensive that can be deployed especially with over a weeks notice to keep generation (even if diminished) up and running. Right now there is substantial amount of generation that is just hard offline, with no ability to start back up until after a thaw. I'm not a nuclear power plant operator, but there are many on here including blacklab so I'll defer to him, but the way I understand it they could have left the nuclear reactor at steady state instead of pushing capacity to prevent from overheating. Nuclear isn't supposed to fluctuate, it's supposed to give steady state generation, whoever made the call to "push the generation" likely caused the failure of a very critical piece of generation that has massive effect on the available electricity on the grid.

  21. Please if we negged those who didn't drink the Kool-Aid then Satya would have been crowdsourced moments after he made his first post. No, we are fine with negativity and sandy vaginas to some degree. What we don't tolerate is pants-on-head level stupidity (we do tolerate a lot of stupidity though or else we'd all be banned, coelenterates, normal humans, and all in between). Your post was fucking dumb, it was provably dumb, and you should feel ashamed for posting it. This decade is our worst in history, no one disputes that, but to pretend no one gets up for us anymore is just laughable. We get everyone's best for the most part (unless you ask Georgia fans who will proudly claim a team that fought for points down three scores mid-way through the fourth didn't actually want to be in a NY6 bowl and that we got lucky). We are the news. And we will be good eventually again. It's a question for when, not if. People like your stupid-ass pea-brain self would be claiming no one cares about Alabama anymore after the Dubose, Franchione, and Shula era at Alabama as Nick Saban comes in and you would criticize anyone who said "uh...people still care about us and that's despite us being in the worst period ever" and claim that the board is now TexAgs. If you're going to make such stupid arguments, just accept it when everyone calls you regarded.

  22. Woo! Just heard my aunt was able to get grandma and take her to their place. Sadly my fears were correct, and she'd been without heat since Sunday night. She normally keeps her thermostat in the mid-80s (90 years old and diabetic). Must've been absolutely miserable. This shit is criminal. Can't imagine many folks in her condition can make it until Thursday. Big shout out to Troph for offering to check on her. All you folks out there trying to help are amazing! You're the Eskimo version of the Cajun Navy.

  28. Dude, just give it up. You're now at: "sure, we are a big game for in-state programs (which make up 1/4 of our schedule right off the bat). And we are a big game for OU. And then there are small private schools...of course we are a big game for them. Traditional SWC rivals like Arkansas, yes, we are a big game for them. And sure, there may be a couple dozen more Big 12 opponents, SEC schools, and other blue bloods (USC, OSU, Notre Dame, Nebraska) that have a history with us and get super hyped to play us. But other than that Texas is basically just any other school on a schedule, don't believe Mack's lies".

  32. You should ask him why he believes a petroleum based economy state like Texas, with the GOP in power of all branches of government for the past 30 years or so, and with energy independence in the form of their own power grid.....is letting the failure of solar and wind power lead to this. I mean, yeah, you are forcing him to use some critical thinking skills which may be atrophied from years of disuse, but it's worth a shot.

  34. A little late to the party but nevertheless: 290 Circle Drive area. No power interruptions with plenty of firewood, running and extra water, and sleeping space. Our concern here is the second wave tonight might damage power lines causing outage and that we are out of booze. No freaks or pets. Pm or respond to this thread. Also have 4wd for shuttling.

  39. How bad do you suck at math and/or reading,@slorch? Wind is operating at about 2/3rds of its planned output. The impact to the outage per ERCOT is 2,000 MW. Thermal plants (NG, coal, nuke) are producing 35,000 - 40,000 of the 70,000 MWs ERCOT plans on. Which failure is having a bigger impact?

  42. Serious update: If you live within 4-5 miles of someone you know/trust who does have heat/water you should start making plans to leave your place and head to their on foot. Bundle up, it's not "that cold" and you can survive a walk with layers that far, it's a little bit of inconvenience and discomfort that could save your life, because another night in the teens and a hard freeze without electricity and a lot of homes will be sub freezing inside. Do not wait until you are already freezing to leave your home to go somewhere that has heat and essentials. Sleep 4 to a bed whatever, do not fuck around with basic privacy/convenience if you are sub 40 degrees inside your home with no running water, now is the time to make a break for it and on foot is going to be the safest option unless you have 4WD and are very experienced in driving in these conditions. We have several of our friends in the dallas area coming to stay with us at the Grand Hyatt in the DFW airport because we were lucky enough to secure the room for another night, we literally do not have room to sleep on the floor or I'd invite more folks.
