  1. Man, some of yall seem to forget the site you are on and it's roots in crass discourse. I didn't realize so many of you all were so sensitive and fragile to the point of needing your own space to not feel challenged in your views. Fucking welcome to life. There are those who will respond in ways that don't feel right, but I'm sure you get that in the real world too. In some ways I get it, the old CR was a cesspool of self righteous conservatives with minimal liberals able to get their points across. But now with Trump, the whole thing has been flipped because the right doesn't have a position to hold onto anymore, and that's tough to justify when challenged. In summation, you snowflakes can go fuck your feelings in your safe space or pull yourself up by your bootstraps and try to strengthen your position thru open, unfiltered discourse.

  3. I'm fed up with this bullshit. This forum is for news that has no ties to anything political. That means if you want to discuss policy, how laws work, bitch about laws, bitch about whatever fucking bullshit that has to do with politicians, talk about who is elected, anything related to POLITICS will be aggressively moved to the POLITICS section of the board called CLOAK ROOM. I don't fucking care if you think there is a "cabal" or if you will "get negged" - get the fuck over it. Stop politicizing everything and just post the news, make fun of shit that happens, get into serious conversations about what it potentially means to you or those around you. DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR FUCKING POLITICAL FEELINGS OR WHAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO TO FIX IT. Anything that has more than 5 posts on a page that are political is just going to get moved to the CR.

  4. I think the DT safe space happened for an entirely different reason. Back in the HornFans and LHFZ days, the politics of the board leaned right. Tahoe was a welcome precursor to Tucker Carlson and people regularly engaged him in a thoughtful manner. Few of us left of center types saw him for being a bit insincere and we saw some of the politics differently from the majority, but we weren't in general too far off. The number of hard left people posting could be counted with one hand (probably). But times changed, the right became more extreme, too extreme for members of the center right. Some of them saw where it was going as the right embraced conspiracy theorists and we went from GHWB (undeniably intelligent) to Sarah Palin (dumbshit). To some of those on the right, it became too much. They didn't suddenly become leftists. They didn't suddenly decide that AOC should be president. But they did realize that Ted Cruz and Cornyn are terrible. So the posts about them are not debating the merits of their beliefs, but rather mocking them because he isn't worthy of scholarly debate but only of scorn. Rush was a POS. He was a hell of an entertainer and he used his platform to cause havoc instead of trying to do something positive with it. But the CR isn't just a circle jerk for the moderates. People were happy to exchange and learn about what happened for the Feb storm, what failed, why, and who was responsible. That included politics because political figures outright lied and repeated lies ad nauseum all over media. But the new right wasn't interested in contributing but slinging shit, and after being rejected they retreated to DT. Tell me I am wrong. Tell me I am completely biased. I am happy to be wrong.

  5. You answered your own post. People loathed Limbaugh because he spent decades being a hypocrite with the war on drugs stuff, and more importantly, he spent decades trying to divide the country and make Americans hate each other. And that’s not hyperbole. Listen to a few hours of one of his shows. He was very blunt about wanting Americans to hate each other. Because of that, you get threads where people cheer his death. The kind of rhetoric he and others pushed have caused a lot of people to wrap themselves up way too tightly in team or identity politics. He, and others that followed (and some on the left as well), pushed a viewpoint that everything has to be binary these days, that people have to pick a team before discussions start, with no room for nuanced views, and that people can’t change their views as they gather new information. Battle lines must be drawn and adhered to from the start. We should be able to discuss things like the homeless or covid with an apolitical mindset, focused on solutions, and we could do that in years past, but here we are. Nobody seems to care that the homeless are homeless regardless of what party is in charge, and the homeless that have mental issues or are strung out on something give no shits about what your political party is.

  6. This change doesn't really concern me outside of the fact that I will no longer stumble into the Austin homeless thread, which I found to be an extremely interesting and entertaining thread, but I think jbj is making a good point. Just as a starting place, go check out the thread titles in the CR and consider if you were a reasonable conservative or even a moderate, whether you'd be interested in stepping into that to discuss your point of view. Even if you were passionate enough about politics to post your thoughts on a message board, it would at least seem to require a massive commitment approaching Hugo levels to be able to respond to the "rash of shit" you'd be receiving. So, not only would you be knowingly entering an area that would clearly not be allied with your perspective, you'd have to be so passionate that you'd be willing to devote substantial time and effort to deal with a constant rash of shit, both constructive and not. Hell, a poster just said a few posts above yours that they want to get GRhorn banned. I don't know GR's views or anything, but you listed him immediately after saying posters don't get neg bombed for holding a contrary view. As a secondary point, not directed at you, we can play the little game about how no one should care about rep and it doesn't matter, but it's part of the forum and community. If it doesn't signify something, then it shouldn't be here. So, yeah, I can see why jbj feels that way. I don't have the passion to post about politics anyway and I never go to the CR, so it is frustrating that an enjoyable thread like Austin homeless, and those like it in the future, apparently, will be in the CR because "a few" posters were overly political and a few others were bothered enough to report it. Just my thoughts. I understand others, including mods, have different opinions on the move.

  16. So what's the difference between that and the other vaccines that the schools already require and that parents routinely get for their kids? Aside from the fact that this one has been politicized in a way that it wasn't when we were doing the same thing for smallpox and rubella and measles and polio?

  17. Not trying to debate about abortion/human life, just the fact that people want to be protected from the government in interfering with their body but don't have a problem when it fits their agenda. Sometimes having freedoms, such as being able to have abortions may have other consequential rights. *Brings up abortion* "Look I don't want to debate abortion!" Get the fuck out of here.

  21. So, I just noticed this thread and not sure if this counts as knowing a murder but let’s say that when I was a kid my father was “connected” to some people. His business partner was a little guy who I called “Uncle” Oscar. I found out when i was older he was one of the most feared hit men for the Gambino and Lucchesi crime families in New York. I also learned that my “Uncle” Vic from NY was the Don of one of the Five Families in NY. I did not know all of this as 7-8 year old. I realized it when I was in college and watching Goodfellas and I realized I knew a lot people with nicknames when I was a kid that were friends or associates of my father just like this movie I was watching. As far as my “Uncle” Oscar, he was the nicest guy to me as he was close friends to my dad and I still remember him giving me a $100 bill and telling me to spend it all at Toys R Us and my parents needed to let me. This was in the late 1970’s so that was big money. I bought a crap ton of Star Wars action figures with that cash.

  24. Caught up with one of my buddies today and there's some decent enough stuff developing. Citizen, for whatever reason, isn't in love with LSU. They've given every indication that they have higher priorities including the probably #1 RB in the country out of Mississippi. Y'all know how this shit goes. LSU could damned near show up the day before signing day and convince him that they love him and they need him. As of now, ATM and Texas are both good choices for a running back and it could come down to the ol'recruit-off between us and the farmtards. I will reiterate what I said when the news broke - I do not expect Blue to be in this class. It may turn out he probably won't be sitting next season out, either. Let's see if he doesn't wind up at a private school after being kicked off of his team. Don't expect a ton of commitments in June. Most will happen between the visits and summer practices for high schools starting. The big issue on both the recruit side and the coaching side across the country is that they don't actually know each other, so there is going to be a ton of sizing up going on. Expect guys who were locks to go somewhere to back off, either because the staff picked up some red flags or the player realized "nope, not for me". This will happen all over the country, which is why it is hilarious to see different $9.95ers predicting players to their schools with absolute certitude. You can go through and look at the "locks" we've been counting and see how that can work against our recruitnik dreams, but remember it is going to happen elsewhere too. The NJ recruit, the Vegas guys, the AZ guy that are all uncommitted but appearing as interested or visiting, they're complete wild cards. The DL in Vegas isn't being pushed heavily by USC, which owns Vegas when they're doing well. I laughed and said that Orlando not going after a guy is hardly the same as someone like Saban not going after a guy in his own backyard. It might even be a good thing. The Reno guy has baseball as his priority, so they may have already concluded that he doesn't love football. Not sure. Different folks have different views on where things are trending with Ewers. We might learn a lot shortly in two regards: 1) If Texas suddenly really makes a push for Samson, they're doing everything they can to land Ewers and 2) Manning visits the weekend of June 10th and the aftermath of that in whichever direction will have a bunch of dorks attempting to read tea leaves, but it should tell us something. This staff is going to go pretty deep into the review of their feel for a player's football intelligence and love for the sport as well as all of the measurables. If they determine an absolute standout doesn't love football or doesn't have the acumen or maturity they're looking for, they will back off. In fact, they view that as an issue with the Texas culture that they're working on fixing. Getting to UT doesn't mean you've made it. It means get to work on the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom. Otherwise, the world needs plenty of bartenders. The $9.95ers are pussies and Texas is landing Denver Harris and has a great shot at Brooks. Forget Dewberry. Banks and Dewberry aren't exactly buddies and aren't likely to go to the same school. I can't remember if they play at the same school now or if they're just neighbors. Neto is an unreliable narrator. Anyone talking about him with any certainty at this time is full of shit. Given that the Frisco guy wants to play C, he's someone everyone should move up their board in terms of priorities and how he'll be recruited. I don't know what the film says, but he's supposed to have a mean streak for a rich kid. Boardingham is a great evaluation and there's a decent chance that other major schools are going to get a lot more interested in him. If you've got Harold Perkins on your list, you're doing lists wrong. I have to sit on one thing that is outright fucking hilarious and I cannot wait to pile onto down the line. It's recruit-related, not Warehime clogging a toilet type stuff, but come on.

  26. Political discourse inthis community from HF to Shaggy to here has been a case study in idiocracy. Maybe it's a reflection of our political theater. Maybe it's a result of the growing polarization effect of social media and partisan traditional media. Maybe it's just a truer than we would like to believe barometer of our devolution. [serious]
