  1. So, I showed up with a 18 lb turkey, and a glazed ham which set me back a little over $100 bucks. The entirety of the items brought by the rest of the Maypear Mafia may not have cost $50 in total. There was a bag salad, a bottle of Thousand Island dressing, one pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls, 2 store bought desserts, what appeared to be stovetop stuffing, and Kraft Mac and cheese. Larry brought a bottle of Smirnoff for the pot luck, and Gary has been pouring it into his sweet tea and telling everyone that is how you make Long Island teas. The Gay cousin and his partner brought fucking quiche….you can’t make this shit up.

  2. Sister's cyber boyfriend shows up to make that first impression....in a Cowboys jersey. We're pretty casual on Thanksgiving but that's pretty low rent. Neither he nor my sister realize his 4 year old daughter has dried puke all over the front of her shirt. Nice. He decides his daughter is happy using our sofa as a bouncy toy so he starts slamming Coronas. He then drops the f bomb as I'm offering the dinner toast because the Raiders scored. My sis keeps giving me that manic "isn't he nice" look. He hasn't engaged in any conversation other than to throw out the fact he thinks Princes Di was assassinated and that 9/11 was an inside job. Bravo, sis.

  3. I can hang my hat on one issue that will mean I am forever opposed to the GQP: they actively trafficked in, and continue to traffic in, the Big Lie and all that attends it, including a violent attack on the government of my country as it was performing a vital constitutional function. I am am American all the way through my bones. I saw my country attacked on 9/11, and I was enraged. I saw who the attackers were, and their motivation by a perverse and insane ideology, and I was even more angry. I hate them. I hate those who created and supported them. I still hate those who support them, or excuse them. I felt the exact same way the next time my country was violently attacked by perverse and insane terrorists, on Jan 6. Both events attacked and destabilized my country, my republic. I have a strong interest in maintaining a stable, functioning republic. Those are consistent, conservative, and patriotic reactions, based on consistent conservative and patriotic beliefs. I have them. The GQP and its supporters and enablers do not - they CONTINUE to traffic in the Big Lie in ways both big and small. Many won’t admit that Trump lost. Functionally ALL use the existence of the Big Lie, which is not supported by ANY credible evidence, as an excuse to restrict the voting rights of their fellow Americans. And it goes on and on. The GQP is not conservative. It is a proto-fascist anti-American organization.

  4. Surprisingly this has been a good Thanksgiving so far. One of the old uncles came in wearing a MAGA hat but hasn't brought up politics for the most part but did say I'm lucky to live in Texas with a real governor. Just smiled and kept drinking but other than that he seems to think I'm from Mexico and I have to keep telling him my family came to Texas in the 20's and settled in Abilene area. He wants to know what life was like in Mexico so I keep telling I have no idea. Then 5 minutes later is a question about Mexico. Took some solid edibles earlier so it's all good over here

  5. I want to take a moment to point out the complete mind numbing idiocy of this statement. You’re going to always side with a party that is determined to end democracy as evidenced by documentable actions instead of a party where the Progressive Caucus (96 house and 1 senate member) members fight for "a universal, high-quality, Medicare for All health care system for all, living wage laws, reductions in military expenditure, a crackdown on corporate greed, putting an end to mass incarceration, supporting and implementing swift measures to start reversing climate change, immigration policies that are humane, and reparations.” You’re siding with ending democracy because some progressives want to help some poor people?

  6. 8+ years of sobriety. A stable career, even if it drives me crazy sometimes. My mom and dad are aging, but still in good health. I have two pretty awesome groups of friends -- one in Austin and another in Houston. The Longhorns don't play football today. What are yours? Let's get some positivity up in this bitch.

  7. So far so good, I guess. They only clogged up the bathrooms 3x, got into an argument with the backyard neighbor 1x and lost my dog. I just leave the garage cracked and he will come back on his own time. I'm taking their ass to the country Friday morning. Growing, the kids would stay outside all day until we were ready for bed. That's essentially my plan. The black Clampetts are going to smoke a hog and fry some fish. Hopefully nobody gets shot.

  8. SIL brought over a new boyfriend, I'm pretty sure he's not all there mentally. Ask him if he wants a beer, tell him I got an IPA from the local brew house. "What's it called" he asks. "V-6" I say. "V-6? Is that because of all the tornadoes you guys have around here?" he asks. Chuckling, "No, that's F-6, but it only goes to F-5, it's called the Fujita.... (realizing this isn't going to matter at this point).....it's V-6." I say. "F6! F6! Hey you guys have you tried this beer yet? It's named after the tornadoes around here!" he yells across the room to everyone and no one. I'm gonna shoot this motherfucker.

  9. Sister just left with cyber boyfriend and his daughter that my wife and I (with no parental experience) entertained for the entire 2nd half and OT of the Cowboys game. Her dad ignore her. I put her on my shoulders for pony rides around the backyard. Showed her the power of the remote control for the LED patio lights. She was a giggling, happy girl. He bitched about the officiating, play calling, execution, etc. A minute after the Raiders won they were out the door. I asked Mrs GOTJ what she thought of him and her response was "I hope she moves on to her next mistake before the 4rh of July. "

  11. Progressive wing of a party….scarier than a literal proto-fascist party that fomented, supported, and continues to foment and support, violent attempts to overthrow the government. “Both sides” my ass. Maybe I’m a single issue voter now. If your party continues to materially support a violent overthrow of my country, I will oppose it at every turn. That’s the way I roll, because I’m a conservative where it counts.

  17. After 3 Coronas the cyber boyfriend can't remember my name & keeps calling me Greg. My wife tried to correct him and I gave her the "the fuck you will" look. My sister seems unaware that he's doing this. Or she's too embarrassed to admit it. I think I'm gonna start calling him Big Tuna.

  19. Whew. Finally caught up from 5 days and 13 pages back. I can confidently say this absolutely was a complete waste of time and certainly cost me a few IQ points. There should be an award ceremony for shittiest fucking takes and the field would be as stacked as any award ceremony in recent memory. Harvdog and his defending of coaches, RaysBoom, WinningIsHard, LonghornLove just being themselves, BO&W engaging in a cripple fight with one another dipshit, Rimbo embracing his core DNA of wanting to trust the coaches, just chef’s kiss all. I gotta say, I think it was Ray with the amazing, nay, astounding take of moving banks to WR coach to bring on samples and just the general idea of mixing and matching position coaches. I think he might have had Bo Davis to OC and Jeff Choate to RBs. That’s my favorite. Every one of you deserves a trophy, a trophy sculpted from Jeff Madden’s post holiday stool. But I don’t advocate that kind of loser culture so instead all of you can just get violently fucked. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  21. So you think MTG peddling anti-semitic conspiracy theories or lies about the 2020 election being stolen is in the same boat as backing bail reform? This is why I don't give a fuck about arguing with the right, and the U.S. right is no longer conservative, they're extreme right wing. They peddle in hate, disinformation, and anti-democratic small d ideals. And then pretend like that's comparable to a disagreement on tax policy or criminal justice reform.

  22. BTW, the ashes service was kind of odd. My wife and her sister + about 30 people that really didn't know my MIL. Seriously. When my wife asked if anybody else wanted to say anything, the first two people that spoke began with, "Well, I never met (MIL), but she sounds like she was really nice...". So, my wife and SIL were all emotional and whatnot, while everyone else was just kind of there. Also, since they did this near one of the historical cabins off a hiking trail, several families, thinking it was a church service, decided to sit down and join in. It was just really weird. In the middle of the ceremony, a delivery driver showed up with a box. It was from a friend of my wife's who wanted to send something since she was unable to make it. Of course, I got in trouble for whispering to a couple of friends, "That'd better not be a severed head."

  23. I was halfway through a long write-up on the post "spreading of MILs ashes" ceremony, but deleted it. Way tl;dr. Essentially, I had talked my wife out of expecting 20+ people to easily be able to drive into Gatlinburg, on a weekend, before a holiday, with almost no parking on a normal day, to eat at a restaurant that did not take reservations. Since we were all headed back towards Knoxville anyway, the compromise was to try to follow her to a less crowded, and more parking-friendly restaurant in Pigeon Forge. So it takes all 8 cars about 45 mins to get through Gatlinburg, following my wife ala the party scene in Swingers. We finally break free of the confines of Gatlinburg traffic and are just about to Pigeon Forge when ... ... a friend of our's called. He's coming from the other way and wants to meet us at the original place in Gatlinburg. He called ahead and got us a table. The only thing that came out of my mouth was, "Jesus. God. No"; however, I was in a car with my daughter and had no say-so at this point. Sooooo. We all do 180's and head back through traffic to Gatlinburg. We park about a mile away. (Yeah! I'm wearing boots for this trek.) Finally, get everyone parked and on the same page, walk through the absolute dregs of society, get to the restaurant, and... ... there's no table. Apparently, another party beat us there and was given the table. Where's my friend that put us through all of this? Oh, he's eating at a booth with his wife and kid. They decided to just go ahead and eat since our table was gone. The rest of us went next door and ate chicken fingers. I'm pretty sure I shared the exact same look with my wife that Waco Christmas Lights guy did with his on that fateful night.

  24. My dumbass brother showed my dad the same thing about 10 minutes after arriving, which of course made my dad think the door was open to start quoting Fox News shit. Gave my brother one look and said you started this, end it now or y’all will be cooking your own meal. Think dad heard me too, so it was relatively quiet until I took parents old dog out after dinner because nobody else could be bothered despite the dog being 16 and starting to have accidents in the house. Shit stirring brother and his wife had already left, but his Trumpy sister in law was still there and I walk back in to the three of them singing praise for Kyle Rittenhouse. Just grabbed my stuff and said have a nice evening. They literally can’t go a few hours without going there. It’s impossible. I was out of earshot less than 5 minutes and this was the first time the three of them had been alone.

  28. Damned right. I'm socially liberal, fiscally conservative, but not a libertarian. I would've had no problem voting for a moderate Republican, but after the events of the last few years I will never vote for a Republican as long as I live. If you haven't left the GOP, you are part of the problem, regardless of how much of your platform I might agree with. And I think there is a growing number of people who feel this way.

  29. Lol. I'm old enough to remember when Obamacare was actually a Republican idea from Mitt Romney and then coopted by the Dems. But now it's SoCiaLism. Too tired to find Ag's post pages back saying that Republican party hasn't moved to the right.

  30. This is the disconnect. You read their talking points as legitimate because you agree with them. You view any evidence to the contrary as being attacked. (Here is the difference between a talking point and a fact. “Healthcare should only be available for hardworking Americans, people with jobs”. Versus “ https://www.kff.org/medicaid/report/the-effects-of-medicaid-expansion-under-the-aca-updated-findings-from-a-literature-review/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6067811/ also here’s a nice little history of why we have job related healthcare in the first place. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/05/upshot/the-real-reason-the-us-has-employer-sponsored-health-insurance.html I started discussing the 2016 Republican platform that a conservative finally posted after pages of being asked to, and most could not even engage on the topics like Homeownership because they either lacked the reading comprehension or knowledge to understand. Or they wanted to debate historical facts like the party switching of mostly Southern racists. I would LOVE to debate the Republican platform of corporate tax cuts create jobs. Please, please, let’s debate that. Or pick any other issue in the 2016 Republican platform.

We have a long way to go. This was a RIGGED ELECTION!” Edited to remove invective.

  34. a) don’t be a coward. ii) the cool thing is, I don’t have to guess. They literally published something that told us exactly what they think. It said, functionally, “whatever Trump wants.” Seriously, that was the stated party platform. 3) you want some? Ok - hollering about immigrants as the cause of literally all of our problems. Drugs? The economy? COVID? Blame immigrants! But wait, they don’t have a problem with LEGAL immigrants, just illegals. Wait, what’s that, they then shifted the goalposts and are working like hell to cut off legal immigration, too? Nazis marching in Charlottesville are good people? Supporters literally yelling “heil Trump?” An orchestrated campaign to delegitimize all media that doesn’t blindly support the regime, using the exact “lugenpresse” play the Nazis ran? Come on, man. This is going to get even more embarrassing for you, because I have 100 more of these. IV) funny thing….Godwin himself said “nope, it’s cool, compare them to Nazis, it fits.” Some of us have read a book or two. We know the plays and systems that authoritarians run on their rise to power, including the Nazis. And we’ve watched, with horror, as they’re being run again, right here at home. Even including the brown shirts and a violent attack on the legitimate government. Remember that one? That’s what your party has wrought. And do they own it, and try to make good? No. They double down. They call terrorists who literally attacked the heart of my government “tourists.” They fight any investigation or accountability. If you stand with a party that supports those things, or at the very LEAST…those aren’t dealbreakers for you….then I know all I need to know about you. I am a patriotic american. I love my country. And I hate - and I mean hate - those who attack it, and those who support, enable, and excuse them. You may as well be supporting, enabling, and excusing Al Qaeda. I mean, if you want to know which “conservative values” I still hold dear, and why they mean that I hate the Republicans and those who support them. You fucking asked. I’m telling.

  43. It’s not a huge leftward shift. It’s that the republicans have shifted so far to the right that Adolf Hitler in hell thinks they’ve gone too far and it makes center right people appear liberal in comparison. Its annoying that people like you don’t see that.
