  1. It's apparent you don't understand how fast CTJ actually is.

  2. If you are behind on in-state players, there's almost no way you'd otherwise be ahead on OOS players. None of it relates to the staff not putting in work, to be clear. Texas just isn't an "it" program right now because they're not winning and they're not throwing ungodly amounts of money at guys in lieu of the winning. This is all fine and does nothing to invalidate concerns anyone has towards this upcoming class. I hope that Texas clutches up on a wave of high quality players that currently aren't looking like viable targets as well. If Texas gets Cutcliffe on board, Manning commits shortly after that and the class trajectory looks fucking awesome immediately.

  3. Oh shut the fuck up with your "targeted cancel culture" bullshit you whiny titty babies. People have a right to call out Rogan for saying (or allowing) stupid shit, dig up other times that he's said stupid shit, or pull their music off a platform that they share with him. Just as Spotify has a right, if they so desire, to say, "Fuck off. He makes us a ton of money. Go pound sand." As soon as the bean counters formulate the most profitable path forward to best appease the most amount of people, everyone will move on to the next thing. Odd that the same people who will go to bat for Joe Rogan and decry, "Censorship!" are remarkably silent when books and aspects of our history are legitimately being banned from being taught by actual government entities.

  4. The only time I've ever listened to him was basically under duress. I had an old friend and his lunatic wife who were basically begging me to watch the youtube clip of his podcast with Brett Weinstein. This was summer 2020, and Rogan's topic was CRT. She was somehow an early opponent of CRT, though the CRT she was railing against was far different than the definition of CRT now. Anyways, I finally gave in and watched a little bit of it, then had a nasty spat with them when I said, "So we have a guy who flunked out of college discussing how CRT is overtaking American colleges with a professor from Evergreen State University, which is literally the biggest fucking joke in higher education, and I'm supposed to learn something about my profession from this?" This was also my first data point in the theory that Trumpanzees are completely unable to discern credible, knowledgeable sources from pure unadulterated bullshit that appeals to them. And I told them that, and I don't think we've spoken since. And I don't miss them. Also, she nearly died of covid last fall because she's not vaxed.

  6. Christ. Basic research would tell you that the guy has put like 4 different QBs into the first round and that he's close family friends with the Mannings. This shouldn't have to be vetted for you on a thread.

  7. Perhaps we should focus on how we get the former president and his minions to cease their attack on democracy, then get them to accurately acknowledge their attack on democracy, then get a good faith expression of remorse for trying to overturn a democratic election, then verify that sentiment thru amends... Then we can consider healing.

  8. There's a quite a few people of Asian descent that are on SurlyHorns. Using racial slurs like chinks is not OK. It's pretty disappointing to read on a forum like this.

  12. Who had “not knowing who David Cutcliffe is” as the reason for the next ban?
    15 points
  13. What’s crazier than not knowing about Cutcliffe as a coach? I’ll take not knowing who CTJ is for a thousand Alex. I’d rather jerk off a mountain lion with a handful of sticker burs than get that fucker going lulz. The more irritated he gets the more shit I have to look up in a thesaurus.

  14. I have to say, if Sarkisian reels Cutcliffe in then it's a damn good move he deserves credit for. The miraculous 2022 recruiting class (for a 5-7 team) has been discussed enough in terms of how lucky he got with things outside of his control. But this would show he recognizes how the 2021 shit show has put him on a really bad spot with the 2023 class and he had to do something to start working on the salvage job now. And this might be the best move possible for obvious reasons. You know, assuming it's illegal to turn over the defensive staff.

  15. If you are referring to aggy, the receptionist where I work has a son that went to eaTme for some reason. I try not to delve into the mindset of anyone who chooses to attend that shithole. She has embraced all things aggy. Not long ago I was wearing a Texas hoodie at work and she actually hissed at me as I walked by her desk. I stopped and told her to google 76-37-5. She was not amused. I told her they would always be little brother and she should just accept it and to stop it with their weird traditions around me. I've been talking shit to aggy my entire life and she would have nothing new to offer.

  16. Wow. I mean, I look at a situation where a building gets cemented shut before a fire is lit and I go "Wow that's fucked up, the people who did that should pay." When I look at a situation where a building gets the doors taped shut before a fire is lit, I go "Wow that's fucked up, the people who did that should pay." I guess it's different when you are full on wearing the pom poms for your team, because then you can abdicate the responsibility of atrocities happening by claiming "well they did it first." Who gives a fuck who did it first, no one should be doing that. At all. Ever. Fuck off with this cheerleading, unless you truly are as depraved as that post made you seem.

  17. Easily the craziest I have seen the student section. They were leading their own cheers and chants. Place was loud as hell. It looked like they were standing in the aisles near the end. I can’t believe the ushers allowed that. The students deserved this win along with the team. Congrats to Beard for getting that kind of atmosphere in the FEC on top of getting that performance from his team. Helluva win. Maybe it will get us off of the bubble.

  21. About two weeks ago, Mac Engel (Star-Telegram) wrote a butthurt article about the Horns not having any Top 25 wins after they kicked the shit out of TCU up here in FW. And how Beard is not meeting expectations. Hey Mac…that’s 3 wins over the Top 25 in the past 10 days. You can rightly go fuck yourself. Hook’em!

  23. Arguing about bringing in extremely knowledgeable people as advisors who have strong ties to a top recruit is weird even for us. Even if Manning didn’t come here, it is still an insanely good get as an additional resource.

  24. We’ve won 5 of our last 6, including 3-1 against ranked teams. This team is starting to figure out it’s offense. We have a real coach finally and this team is actually progressing. We’re rounding into shape just in time for March Madness.

  27. One of the interesting things about Flores is his cultural background. He is the child of Garifuna immigrants from Central America. Their history is fascinating -- way back around 1720 their ancestors survived the wreck of their Spanish slave ship on St. Vincent, killed the Spanish crew, and headed for the hills, where they intermarried with the Carib and Arawak peoples. The Brits steamed in to St Vincent about 20 years later and the Garifuna fought them to a standstill -- they were the first native peoples to force a colonizing power to sign a treaty....Which neither side stuck to, and around 1800 the Brits exiled most of the Garifuna to the shores of Belize, and today they live there and down into Hounduras and Nicaragua. Their native language is a composite of Arawak / Carib, Spanish and English. Most of them share Flores's dark skin tone but genetically they are very native too. Their music is very African-sounding.... In Central America they've played a role something like the Kurds -- a stateless people alternately attacked or used as mercenaries in that region's many wars. (Except in Belize.) New York has the largest colony but there is a substantial one in Houston as well; here, they first came as stowaways via the Ship Channel and settled in the nearby Fifth Ward. A Fifth Ward friend of mine told me they stand out for preferring soccer over basketball; cigars and rum over Newports and beer; and reggaeton over hip hop and R&B. In more recent years a more middle class contingent of Garifina as arrived in America including a HS buddy of mine who is also a Texas Ex. He came to America at about eight but he keeps his culture alive with his cooking, music (jamming out in his garage with those African sounding drums with friends and family), and frequent trips home. He doesn't speak Garifuna, as his parents were city folk when they came to Houston, but in Belize most of them speak English as either their first or second language. Back in HS we knew he was from Belize but he didn't really talk at all about being Garifuna. That came after we grew up. About a year ago we had lunch from this food truck in Houston and he told me about all this stuff. I knew only their music: Point is Flores was raised with a different mindset. He as spoken out against police violence / trigger happiness: "I've lived this," he said, recalling that he'd personally had NYPD cops point weapons at him based on nothing more than suspicion. In the aftermath of George Floyd's murder, he released this statement: Frankly given that sort of outspokenness I am surprised an organization like the Texans ever considered him at all.

  32. So sorry to hear this. Macular degeneration is a terrible thief. I watched it rob my FIL and an aunt of their sight. You've been an awesome part of this community--one of my absolute favorites. You have a great sense of humor, and take the jabs that are thrown at you in stride. I have really enjoyed the community with you in it. I do hope you're able to continue to stay engaged with others, in other ways. Although, I'm not sure that any other community may be as welcoming to the surly aspect of your personality. Thanks, @Armybrat. We all appreciate you.

  33. Second class in a row? Holy fuck we just finished with the # 4 combined recruiting/portal class, including the #1 player at the most important position and two massive OL + DL classes. It's amazing how y'all can talk yourselves into the most depressing narratives. Nothing is fucked here, dude. You're being very un-dude.

  36. The cops have every advantage here. They have superior training, superior numbers, awareness of the situation, and the element of surprise. Why in the blue fuck would it be unreasonable to suggest that maybe, given all those advantages, we should put more of the burden to respond perfectly on the cops and not joe schmoe being awoken at 3:00 am in the morning?

  37. I mean, yeah it's obviously a coordinated and concentrated attack on him using old clips we all knew were there, but ya know what? Good, fuck him. I'm not entirely comfortable with this kind of mashed up takedown where it's easy to clip someone out of general context BUT both Rogan and Spotify shit in their bed, now they have to clean their mess. It's literally in THE FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD. Everyone knew this was out there, including Spotify so they were on notice and they knew what they were buying when they agreed to pay to be his exclusive provider. Rogan wouldn't be raked over the coals right now if Spotify had simply responded properly to his rampant covid disinformation and anti-vaxx garbage instead of doubling down and letting their subscribers know they weren't going to do anything at all to rein him in. My issue with Rogan goes beyond covid. He has long been an enabler of some of the worst personalities and some of the most bad faith political actors of our time and his podcast became an essential gateway into the alt right with his constant normalizing of vile charlatans pandering to incel culture. He's sanitized transphobia, misogyny, white nationalism, and genetic determinism by regularly allowing people like Molyneux, Peterson, Doug Murray, Alex Jones, Milo Y, Ben Shapiro, Tim Pool, Gavin McInnes, Chuck Johnson etc. He has habitually platformed reactionaries, conspiracy theorists, racists, and countless hours of despicable garbage, and those of us who hate him for it have a right to point it out and hammer Spotify for enabling and amplifying crazy ideas far outside the norm of acceptability. Crybaby libertarian/idw chuds/conservatives don't like seeing their #1 guy get slammed for sanitizing their abhorrent beliefs and can't distinguish true government censorship (banning books like Maus from school libraries/curriculum) with capitalism at work (private company facing customer revolt).
