Here’s what a good Russian Orthodox priest friend posted, to the consternation of some of his flock. Here’s the thing man. There’s a house on our street that’s experiencing a home invasion and hostage situation. The gunmen are hurting the children and parents, they’re making outrageous demands including taking some of the kids. The ringleader in his hideout said their van is rigged with enough explosives to take out the block if the cops try to bust in. And we have people standing around outside whispering that they’ve heard the family had its own issues, that the parents have been irresponsible, and that Jesus wouldn’t want anyone, including the gunmen to die. And acting like it’s some fucking morally superior stance to hope that out of nowhere they’ll just put the guns down and walk out, and maybe the parents should be reasonable and give them the one kid that’s been acting out anyway. Fuck all that noise. Here in reality, this ends one way: Russia’s military capability is degraded and Russia runs out of money and it becomes more painful to prosecute the war than continue it. And that requires Russian soldiers to die and Russian citizens to feel pain at home. I can wish for a peaceful outcome and so can Zelenskyy, but wish in one hand and shit in the other . . . .27 points

http:// https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/sanctioned-or-not-russians-abroad-find-their-money-is-toxic-2022-03-30/ "I am dealing with Russians who can't get out of hotels, students who have no money because credit cards are valueless," said Bob Amsterdam, a founding partner of Washington- and London-based law firm Amsterdam & Partners. "Banks ... are refusing Russians bank accounts: they are closing their doors to Russians on nationality," said Amsterdam, who is based in London. "Leading law firms in the City have closed their doors to Russians in terms of nationality." "Currently, everything that is Russian is toxic, which means that everyone is trying to be extremely, extremely careful in terms of what to do with Russian clients," said the lawyer, a dual Russian and British citizen, who runs a law firm in Zurich.13 points

Ouch, baby, very ouch. While I'm here, might as well respond to this bullshit. I read the article. Hill is despised by many because she is a racebaiting know-nothing who insists on forcing her politics and "every white person is a racist" worldview into everything she does. So fuck her and anyone supporting that shit. She's also fundamentally wrong. Outside of the Hollywood handbag-swinging, pearl-clutching white elitists living in a fucking bubble, and the bubble celebrities are living in on Twitter and Insta, white America doesn't give any more of a fuck about the incident than black America or any other demographically-sliced America. Twitter isn't America. The only actual conversations most people are having about that incident are the entertaining ones surrounding the shock aspects of it coupled with the bizarre premise in which Rock did nothing in the aftermath. This isn't a racial issue, no matter how badly a bunch of politically obsessed mouthbreathers want to make it.9 points

So, I guess this is as good a time as any to admit this, I've never seen Die Hard. Every year during Christmas when Die Hard comes up as "is it a Christmas movie or not" debate, I mean to check it out, but I never do.8 points

Unbe-fucking-lievable that the toad who attempted to help the loser of the 2020 election overturn that election by falsely claiming the election was stolen is going on TV to scold Democrats for something that he's already done in the last election. There's nothing bad enough that could possibly happen to Ted Cruz where I would feel sorry for him. He's the absolute fucking worst.8 points

Some people drive past the lottery signs of the payout amounts and dream of yachts and fancy cars. I dream of buying back thousands of acres of family land, sitting by a campfire, and listening to the yotes' sing.8 points

Our place in Scurry County is just over a section as well. Thirty years ago my uncle carved out 20 acres on one corner and bought out his three siblings and built a house. When he died last year, my aunt wanted to move back to town and declared she was going to sell the house and the 20 acres. Luckily I had the wherewithal and the means to buy it from her and keep it in the family. I overpaid by about 10-20% or so, but I didn't want to haggle with an old widow lady and I figured it was worth it to keep it in the family for exactly that reason. My brothers and I are going to own all of the rest of that land someday and I didn't want it carved up into little pieces.8 points

You should read the wsj article from two days ago. The rubble’s partial rebound is not the result of general strengthening of Russia’s economic outlook. It is the result of their central bank limiting ruble selling and forcing rubble buying. There is a manufactured demand for the currency.7 points
