  1. Just back from a 1 day nilgai hunt on the King Ranch; had lunch at Tucker’s BBQ in Raymondville on Friday. Bark cut off the brisket! Tasted like it was cooked too fast, too hot. Potato salad just meh. Broccoli “slaw” was interesting and pretty good. Do not recommend this place-Whataburger is less than a block away.
  2. Pork chop and (free) beans at Cooper’s in Llano. Only 2 things on the menu worth eating.
  3. I had a guitar teacher many years ago that was completely blind since birth; a piano tuner, too. He kept an (illegally short) 12 gauge next to the bed. Needless to say, his hearing was perfect. I wouldn’t bet against him for those first 2 rounds………
  4. And I cannot read the sonsabitches with polarized sunglasses on………
  5. I’ve drunk McM’s Longbranch (Wild Turkey) and it was quite palatable, but I’ve been a Wild Turkey drinker for 50 years. I saw Bob Dylan’s “Heaven’s Door” yesterday in a store, but decided I’d be embarrassed to actually buy it. Love the song, though. Any reviews by Surly?
  6. You work at a sale barn in East Texas?
  7. This. Glenwood Springs is a 2-3 hour visit. Depending on your interests, Santa Fe is a 1 day visit on your tight schedule. I’d stay at La Fonda (my oldest was probably conceived there) and then head to Taos for the day. Taos is the real Southwest, where Indian, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures meld and clash-it’s an edgy, vibrant place. Stay at the Taos Inn.
  8. Should have read on before commenting! The designer of the Mikkenger was supposedly an engineer (with TI, maybe) and the guns were essentially hand-built. Only one I’ve ever seen is a permanent fixture on some guy’s table at the F’burg and Kerrville gun shows. It’s a 7 1/2” .44 Mag. Beautifully built, probably only of interest to a collector of esoteric single actions, especially at the asking price-about like a Freedom Arms 83 in price. The gun show guy was a coworker and friend of the designer and claims fewer than 200 were built. Cool revolver.
  9. Moss berg/Abilene. Ended up paying royalties to Roger for using their transfer bar technology. Had 1 in .357; heavy, smooth, accurate. May have had another name or 2 before they disappeared.

    Getting old sucks

Oh, it’s not Alzheimer’s if you misplace your car key; OTOH, if you can’t remember what a car key is for………………..
  11. Too much potassium is bad-arrhythmias, etc. Too much magnesium = colonoscopy prep, you mostly just blow it out. I take 1200 mg per day. Magnesium serum levels are essentially useless unless you’re a pregnant female or at end of life. Calcium high is problematic, keep your vitamin D up. No idea on hibiscus powder, offhand it sounds like another açaí berry marketing scam to me. Maybe not, data is inconsistent. Take it easy on the potassium, 99mg = 1 mEq per day, listen to your doc on that.
  12. My sister and I regularly email each other tuna casserole recipes, since we’ve both sworn we’ll go into armed robbery before ever eating that shit again. My grandmother scrounged hand-me-downs in her small Panhandle town to send us-we survived. Gives one a certain perspective.

    Getting old sucks

That is a very concerning presentation. Hypoglycemia? Start simple-is she eating wisely? Is she diabetic? On blood sugar lowering meds? Hope you get this figured out soon-scary!
  14. Aw, c’mon ‘Stache. She’s not that ugly, although the deep plow nose is a little disturbing. More like an aggy 9.5. Why is an OSU Cowboy rating women, anyway? Did you notice how hard the camera guys were working last night to put up acceptable fans? Yes, OSU won that contest, too, congrats,
  15. I have Cigars and Whisk(e)y night every Wednesday night with 5 aggy (what can I say? It’s a tiny town, and I seldom buy-). Your posts to this thread have provided endless entertainment and useful knowledge; hell, they never know why I’m laughing. Onward to full recovery, get well soon!
  16. Probably the shrimper I met when he came up to my fishing partner and I to cadge a beer poolside at some skeezy motel in Aransas Pass. Grabbed my hands, looked ‘em over, and said i obviously didn’t work hard because they weren’t as calloused and scarred as his. Then offered to sell us a pound of weed, fresh off the boat. Then invited us into the hot tub, since it was getting dark. Uh, no man. We’re getting up early to go fishing, so time for us to hit the hay………..
  17. I want a Cabronita, but not the reverse headstock, thanks. Even a Cabronita snakehead would suit me better-talk about a strange guitar!
  18. That’s bullshit. When my daughter decided she needed/wanted an MBA, I’d pay for it anywhere she could get in, except aggy. No how, no way, never. Wisely, she didn’t bother to apply at Baghdad on the Brazos.
  19. Buy it. You do you-but it is pink……………..
  20. Re: HB H-S-H setup- I thought all H-S-H were “low to midrange heavy and kind of mushy.” Har! Just kidding-you might find some used pickups and save some coin. My only ‘bucker guitar is an old Yamaha Tele-shape with twin DiMarzio PAF’s; it’s a boomer, but not exactly articulate compared to well set up and tone controlled single coils. Guess I may have been listening to Tele music too long.
  21. Please let us know what you think of it; I’m thinking I may need a Ric 12-string fake, myself!
  22. I bought a H-B Tele-style ‘52 as a beater/leave at the other house toy. Tuners are extremely mediocre, good fret work, nice finish, pickups surprisingly decent. Can’t imagine doing better for $149 or whatever I paid. I’m gonna replace the tuners just for the hell of it. Body and headstock shape aren’t perfect, but who cares? Not gonna be on any album covers anytime soon…..
