  1. I agree, he’s great. He needs to get away from Chip Brown ASAP
  2. I think the stadium looks nice inside. The outside from that angle is hideous
  3. If Eli White is our starting CF I may jump from Globe Life Barn above our ugly T logo
  4. I guess I’ll finally accept that this is our roster
  5. That is a depressing list after the start of the off season declarations. If I hadn’t had my hopes up then it’s still a better team than last year. Probably a .500 club. And selfishly I love having the team in Arlington. I can hop on 30 and be there in less than 25 minutes from Fort Worth. I very rarely go to Stars and Mavs games.
  6. Really like Sawyer’s film. He has a cannon
  7. I’d kill for Tacodeli to open here. I miss Austin’ s breakfast tacos. Best I’ve had are Melis and Salsa Limon but I miss having 10 breakfast taco places within a few blocks.
  8. Sean Snyder takes the cake for the shittiest candidate yet
  9. I can’t remember a less hyped game against a team as good as Utah
  10. Texas vs. UCLA 2010 was easily the drunkest for me
  11. Try and read Anwar’s OC update without getting a headache. (From Anwar) Texas football coach Tom Herman is seemingly not in a hurry to hire a new offensive coordinator. When the season ended, Herman’s main priority was to fix a defense that was ranked 108th in the country in 2019 (there are 130 teams). That led Herman to part ways with defensive coordinator Todd Orlando, a coach he discovered at Utah State. Herman wanted to find a coach who could improve his defense, and develop a roster of talented young players. After interviewing multiple candidates, Herman hired former Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash, who the head coach at Rutgers for a portion of this season. “After taking a hard look at a lot of options at defensive coordinator, Chris was the one that continued to stand out,” Herman said via a press release. “We couldn’t be more excited what he’ll add to our staff. I’ve witnessed firsthand Chris’ skills as a game planner, his attention to detail and ability to develop players. He gets the best out of every one of them and has a history of building physical, fundamentally sound, winning defenses. He has done it at the highest level, is a tremendous all-around coach and an awesome person. I know he’ll do great things, and our players, coaches and staff will really enjoy working with him. We look forward to his arrival in Austin, getting to work, and him and his family joining our Longhorn family.” Herman took care of his first priority, but there is no telling when he might hire a new offensive coordinator. I believe it could happen this month. However, considering my sources told me Herman does not believe his offense needs an overhaul, I wouldn't bet on when he hires a new offensive coordinator. Earlier this week, I reported the list of offensive coordinator candidates who are on Herman’s list. Those coaches are Sean Gleeson (Oklahoma State), Mike Yurcich (Ohio State), and Major Applewhite (Alabama). From what I can tell, there might be two more candidates on Herman’s list. One name I heard this week was Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarroca. Once Herman has vetted potential candidates, and starts eliminating coaches, the picture should become clearer. One aspect of the coaching search I researched this week was Herman’s desire to hire someone who runs the current offense versus a guy bringing in his own playbook. The responses were very interesting. From I was told, Herman is looking for a guy who can maintain the identity of his team. Texas is always going to be a shotgun team that wants opposing squads to defend the quarterback run, according to my sources. In addition, people inside the building said Herman intends to play with a tight end, and throw the ball downfield off play-action. Those are attributes Herman will not stray from. However, those close to Herman said he is looking for a marriage of terminologies and philosophies. They scoffed at the mention of a coordinator bringing his own play book to Texas. I was told the notion of an offense being etched in stone and never evolving was an inaccurate view of coaching searches. Once source said, “Look, nobody comes in and drops a playbook on a team and a head coach.” Instead, I was told the conversations Herman was having with coaches revolves around them agreeing to what works best for the players, and it is not centered around running plays. To dig a little deeper, I asked about the Air Raid offense. I wanted to know why Herman kicked to tires on USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell. “Are you talking about Lincoln Riley’s Air Raid offense or Mike Leach’s?” my source retorted. During the course of the conversation, my source said Riley uses two tight ends and runs the ball 30 times in his Air Raid offense, while Leach might throw over 60 times a game. “They are both Air Raid offenses, but nothing alike,” I was told. “You have to understand it is not like offenses are etched in stone and never evolving. They are constantly evolving and adapting.” In addition, I was told everyone Herman interviewed, including Harrell, believe it was easier for them to marriage their philosophy to the coach instead of trying to have 50 players learn a new system and terminology. As far as the offensive coordinator search is concerned, I will keep you posted.
  12. Ian Boyd is so much better than any other football writer on the other pay sites.
  13. Who are these pumpkin spice latte holders and why are they coming to our bowl game? Clearly they aren’t Utah fans.
  14. Herman mentioned he expects to add multiple grad transfers in his press conference
  15. Offensive coordinator Graham Harrell is going to stay at USC. It appears unlikely Joe Brady will leave LSU for Texas.Where does Texas football coach Tom Herman go next? That is the question I posed to my sources after Harrell announced his decision to remain at USC on Monday night. Brady and Harrell were the notable names, but I wanted to know who were some of the other candidates in Herman’s list. I uncovered several notes worth passing along to you on Tuesday.First, it is important to remember that Herman is not looking for a “home run hire,” according to my sources. One of the aspects of this search I discovered this past weekend was there is not a belief that the offense was broken this season. Texas finished with the 15th ranked offense in college football. The Longhorns were also ranked ninth in third-down offense, and 10th in red zone conversions. From what I have been able to gather, Herman does not believe the offense was a major problem this season. Instead, the biggest concern is fixing the defense, which is why his first coordinator hire was Chris Ash.In addition, I do not sense there is any rush to fill the offensive coordinator position. There is a possibility the position will be filled before Texas faces Utah in the Alamo Bowl. However, Herman will take more time to vet offensive coordinator candidates since there is not a huge sense of urgency. Again, that is just what I am gathering from my sources. Here are a few Longhorn offensive candidate names I gathered from my sources this week (to my knowledge, none have been contacted):Mike Yurcich (Passing Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks, Ohio State) Photo via The AthleticHe was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2018. According to Yurcich’s bio, during his six years at Oklahoma State, the program ranked fifth nationally in passing yards per game (315.9), 11th in touchdown passes (179), seventh in total yards (478.6) and sixth in scoring (38.0). In the 2017 season, Mason Rudolph had 4,904 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and nine interceptions, James Washington and Marcell Ateman had over 1,000 yards receiving, while Justice Hill has over 1,000 yards rushing. In addition, Oklahoma State led the nation in passing (389.2 yards per game), was second in total offense (568.9) and ranked fourth in scoring (45.0).Basically, that is the ideal balance Herman desires at Texas.Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has 2,953 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and only one interception this season (190.3 passer rating). Kevin Wilson is Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, but Yurcich impact on Fields is obvious. More importantly, Yurcich could become a coordinator again at Texas.Right now, Ohio State is preparing to face Clemson in the college football playoffs on December 28. Sean Gleeson (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks, Oklahoma State) Photo via Tulsa WorldGleeson is viewed as rising star in college football because of his success at Princeton. He was Princeton’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2017 to 2018. According to his bio, Princeton led the FCS in scoring offense by averaging 47.0 points per game and ranked in the top 10 nationally in total offense (second with 536.8 yards per game), rushing offense (sixth with 295.5 yards per game), third-down conversion percentage (second with a mark of 53.4 percent) and pass efficiency (seventh with a mark of 161.26). The Tigers’ 470 points scored in 2018 set an Ivy League record.More importantly, Gleeson runs a pro-spread that is run first and balance. His philosophy meshes with the style of play Herman desires.Gleeson reportedly earned $550,000 during his first season at Oklahoma State this season. From a financial aspect, giving Gleeson more money would not be an issue. It is hard to know from afar if Gleeson is married to Oklahoma State and coach Mike Gundy. However, he has the attributes Herman desires in an offensive coordinator.I have heard his name mentioned multiple times recently.Major Applewhite (analyst/Alabama) Photo via APLet me start by saying this could be a difficult sell to Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte. Nevertheless, if Herman eventually decides he wants to convince the program to move on from what occurred in the past, Applewhite will move up the current candidate list. My sources told me Herman is intrigued about the possibility of reuniting with Applewhite at Texas. When Herman talks about wanting to focus on being a head coach, that has a lot to do with the success he had with Applewhite at Houston. Applewhite ran the offense, which allowed Herman to take a big picture approach. His former offensive coordinator ran the meetings at Houston, a task Herman is forced to do at Texas. Applewhite also developed game plans Herman liked at Houston.“Having to spend that much time preparing an offensive game plan every week took, and has taken, too much of my time and energy in order to do the things necessary as a head coach, to do them at an elite level, like I've been able to do in the past,” Herman recently said.Basically, Herman has been looking for the next Applewhite during his current candidate search, and my sources have indicated he has discussed a potential reunion in Austin. Applewhite has spent this season learning under Alabama coach Nick Saban, and knows the recruiting landscape in Texas, which adds to his appeal.I would not overreact to this nugget. Instead, just file it in the back of your head.Courtney Messingham (offensive coordinator/Kansas State)There has been some speculation about Messingham recently, but my sources indicated he is not a candidate at Texas.I will keep you posted.
  16. No information is being leaked by the athletic department so nobody knows anything. So they are reduced to bickering whether or not Ash was actually in Austin last week or whether or not an offer was made to Harrell. It's riveting stuff.

  18. Saturday, 3:30 pm — We're hearing conflicting things about whether USC's Graham Harrell is staying at USC, waiting to see about possible head-coaching jobs (he's interviewed for UTSA and our USC site reported Harrell interviewed at UNLV) or just taking his time deciding about if wants to be the offensive coordinator at Texas. Obviously, LSU receivers coach and passing game coordinator Joe Brady is coaching a football game right now (SEC Championship vs Georgia). But keep an eye on SMU offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, who spent a lot of time on the sideline with Tom Herman and Stan Drayton at the Ennis-Aledo game at The Star in Frisco Friday night and is at the Duncanville-Southlake Carroll game today (Saturday), where Herman and Herb Hand are on hand (to see Texas QB commit Ja'Quinden Jackson). Our Mike Roach is also there and reported seeing Lashlee talking to Hand on the sideline. We put Lashlee on our offensive coordinator Hot Board ( https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Texas-Longhorns-football-offensive-coordinator-hot-board-Tom-Herman-Graham-Harrell-Joe-Brady-139631412/ ) from the beginning, because he oversaw a red-hot SMU offense this season and worked with Hand at Auburn under Gus Malzahn in 2016. Lashlee called the offensive plays this season for Sonny Dykes' 10-2 SMU team, which finished No. 6 in FBS in scoring (43.0 points per game), No. 12 in passing (309.3 yards per game) and No. 42 in rushing (186.2 ypg, 5.0 ypc) and featured former Longhorn Shane Buechele at quarterback.
