  1. This. When I got divorced a couple of years ago I made damn sure the mixer went with me. I even gave up the le creuset in the trade.
  2. Finally bought a set of silicon baking mats a few weeks ago and now I'm wondering what I've been doing with my life for the last 40 years. Might be the best cooking item I've ever bought. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083DQ823V?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
  3. I've perused and gotten food and drink recs but the lady friend (no pics) wants to do one of the swamp/plantation tours. Anyone done one of those and have a fave? Is it even worth it?
  4. Scotland absolutely stole that one. That knock in to touch was a gift.
  5. The majority of cookbooks I have bought in the last couple of years have specifically said their salt measurements are for Diamond Crystal and to adjust for any other kind. So there is that.
  6. I think for the PAC it shouldn't be about increasing the size of the pie necessarily but about expanding into the central timezone to gain more visibility on the national stage. Add a couple of programs like Tech and OkSt that are respectable enough to keep the pie relatively the same size but now you have kickoffs that people on the east coast might actually see.
  7. Casa Diablo! Food menu is all vegan and no fur, leather, etc worn by the dancers on stage. Other than that, your normal garden variety full nudity titter.
  8. Booked a flight a while back and at some point it got rescheduled. I was aware of this but on the day of the flight I spaced and had the original (later) flight time in my head. Showed up in time for the original flight but not for the actual flight. Plane was still there but was told it was too late to board. Said no problem, my mistake, what can you get me on? Next available was leaving at midnight. Thanked her and let her do her thing. Almost finished, she thanks me for being so patient and understanding. I said that it was my mistake, why would I get mad at her and be an ass. She just looked at me and said "Everyone else does."
  9. If you are going out Hood River way, hit up Double Mountain. Cherry season is fixing to start so you can stop at the orchards on the fruit loop for berries and cherries. Eem and Ox in NE Portland are both pretty tasty.
  10. Between a single mom and grandparents who canned everything, I much preferred any canned vegetable over fresh until the last few years.
  11. Did Austin to Portland two years ago. Went up I-25 through CO, I-80 through WY to SLC, and then I-84 the rest of the way. Overnighted outside of Denver and Boise. Did it in 2.5 days but that was hard driving. Would definitely take my time if I do it again. Did it in April and still caught snow in CO and WY. Drive was beautiful, especially the last stretch on 84.
  12. 2" thick ribeye I picked up at Whole foods. Sous vide to 129, then seared in a smoking hot cast iron skillet. Came out alright. .
  13. Stayed at Phantom Ranch for a couple of nights a few years back. It was mid-March and we took the South Kaibab trail down. It was in the mid-30s and icy when we started at the rim. By the time we got to the river it was in the mid-90s. I can't even imagine how hot it would be in July. Took Bright Angel back to the top and there were so many fucking tourists during the last mile or so it was unreal. Playing guitars, tossing frisbees, taking dogs, etc. I wanted to just start throwing people over the edge.
  14. I had a rock take a chip out of the paint on my truck door that took it down to the metal. That spot (about 8 mm in diameter) is starting to show some rust. Has anyone used a rust remover that they would recommend that won't mess up the rest of the paint?
  15. Mike Baab. All-SWC and All-American his senior year at UT. Was my wife and I's personal trainer when we were still in Austin. Man looks like he could still play. Won a world championship in Highland Games a while back. Super nice, down to earth guy. As a plus, he is responsible for this little gem in response to the Bears Super Bowl Shuffle:
  16. Horse Brass Pub in Portland is the best I've had. They use halibut.
  17. For those who can't bring themselves to listen to the full clip, the interview with Bruce Feldman starts around 25:00. They proceed to blow each other over the TexAgs/Athletic partnership until 29:00ish before moving on to aggy/sec talk. Texas in the playoff prediction occurs around 36:00.
  18. Having moved to Portland six weeks ago I have to say this is the godawful truth. Hit up every Tex-Mex place you can. And HEB. Man I miss HEB. Fred Meyer can kiss my ass.
