  1. Man, it's crazy people walk around this motherfucker seeing the price of goods, vehicles, and real estate and still think the way these guys do. We are all olds now and in decent positions in life but one should keep their ear to the ground because the generation behind us is struggling. You don't need charts to see it either. The birthing rates and amount of young adults living with their parents says all you need to know.

Guess what I do if my employer limits my hours to 32 or less?

Hint:  Not just sit there like a fucking victim.  Stop acting as if it's a one way relationship.  Is that how much control you have over your life? "Well furk, Edith.  WidgetsUSA cut my hours to 30.  That's all I can do now..."

The median wage earner (according to 52-80, earning $15/hr for 41k/yr income) would usually have to take a second job, which also doesn't give full time hours. And neither job schedules you with more than a few days notice. A good friend of mine from way back has made a habit of fucking up and is stuck in that phase of working hourly jobs, and the cold truth is there's just not much out there that offers full hours and benefits

This is the business model that a lot of companies that employ hourly are rolling with. Hard workers go and get a second job. Companies are no longer in the mindset of giving away anything. Newsflash, they also are pushing experienced people out in favor of younger people they can pay less to do the same work. Welcome to 24 Slorch.

Lots of employers intentionally give employees 32 hours weekly specifically so they don't qualify for benefits and are forced to the ACA marketplace - which is not a magical "fox everything and give coverage to everyone" solution as you are framing it. It's just another place to buy an insurance plan from an insurance company that exists only to stand between you and your care

    LOLz.  I framed it?

It's reality bro.  You want equal results for everyone.  Equal misery. I disagree.

You know when the last time I averaged 32 hours of work in a week?  Seriously at age  16 or so.

Now let's talk "framing" of an argument and discuss what grown ass adults should be doing, or making decisions around.  You want to work part time, then that's how the comp works.

There are literally swaths of companies that cap people to prevent them from benefits. It's a science. Some of you guys are Neanderthals, out of touch with the times. Companies no do what they can to prevent that as well as OT. Moose out front.

Yeah, Indoor volleyball is unique compared to almost all other girls sports.  Less camps/etc, more recruiting from the National level tournaments.  Beach is inline with soccer.  Unless you're top 50ish players you're not going to hear much, if anything, from coaches.  We've been road warriors as well, multiple college showcases.  My daughter emails all her schools (Tier 1, 2 and 3) once every two weeks or so but it's like blackhole and you hear almost nothing back.

The advice to not giving up if it doesn't happen June 15th is key, and our club director said the same.  There will be a lot of girls that get committed early, but the schools then start working through their lists.  Also, just because you don't get a call doesn't mean you shouldn't call.  Be proactive, communicate regularly.  Although, right now being in the no contact phase is super frustrating as you have zero ideas where you stand.

Indoor is a cesspool of politics. Horrible. We have a girl on our team that is playing outside hitter. She has the worst hitting percentage on the team and is our worst passer as well. The more she plays the more we lose. She was playing her in front of another girl who has terminal hitting ability. All the parents were trying to find out why she is getting so much playing time. Come to find out our coach is giving her private lessons. So basically pay to play. I had heard about stuff like that going on elsewhere but it was our first time experiencing it. The kid she is playing can't even make her high school team at the position she is playing at club, and its not like they are loaded. Meanwhile, everyone else is "first team all something" at their schools.

    Me-"They are a P5 program"

    Her- "a wha?"

me- "They are in the same conference with G-Tech, Pitt, and Louisville(solid, ranked vball programs she knows)"

Same boat, but girls soccer.  She's 15, and we've been road warriors these last few weeks at college ID camps and showcases.  Biggest takeaway from the camps, coaches, and current players is "comparison is the thief of joy"

June 15th will come and go.  Some will get tons of calls, others few or none.  What will 100% happen is their peer groups social media will explode with college stuff.  Much of it might be valid, much of it probably isn't.  Parents/kids trying to drum up fake demand.  Stay the path.

Multiple girls from different schools stated they didn't get picked up until their senior year.  Factor in the transfer portal and it's even screwier.  There are also limited schollies for Title IX sports.  Soccer gets 14 schollies for rosters that vary from 28-32.  Vball is probably different, but very few get a full ride.

Yeah volleyball is different. D1 is 12 schollies, D2 8, and NAIA 8. None for D3. All schollies for D1 have to be full ride. No partials. D2 are usually partial. Some levels are allowed to split with academic scholarships. There are usually around 16 kids a roster.

We have been to almost no camps or showcases. She went to one camp her club hosted last season and that's it. The traction she has gotten has been from social media or eyeball tests. The cool part of vball is the direct, across the net visuals. For example, the number 1 player in the country at our age group is Henley Anderson from Drippings Springs. She is a 6'3 Outside Hitter. We played her club team last year and there were 41 recruiters standing around the court. While they are watching her they are also seeing yours too. My daughter hit a ball so hard off the top of one of her teammate's head that it went two courts over. On Friday we leave for a tournament in KC. It's a NIT called The Tripe Crown. There are roughly 5000 clubs in the US and The Triple Crown invites the top 100. So almost all the best kids are in the same place. Last year it drew over 300 recruiters. Huge platform for your kid to be seen, but def nerve-wracking with all the recruiters standing around the court watching and taking notes.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

In other words, fuck yes you go to all the practices, unless you are legitimately sick.

This is something I've been telling my girl for a long long time. Never. Let. Anyone. Out. Work. You!

You cannot control how tall you are, how fast you run, or high high you jump. You CAN control your effort and how hard you work to hone your craft. She learned what that meant this year when school ball came around. She plays on a team with 4 people who play the same position as her. One is probably the most physically gifted athlete in the city and a sophomore as well. The other is a junior and the starter last year. The other is a senior who has just as many physical gifts as her and last year's starter. It was her first year on varsity and she won a job in the starting rotation, and even won 1st team all district as well. All because she refused to yield.

Question for Dads: son (6th gr) has sport practice 3x a week, and soon will have games on yet another day l. Do I make him (or guilt trip?) go to every practice? Sometimes he says he's tired. And well, maybe he is. But isn't developing the grit to do practice anyway part of the point? My wife thinks I'm too serious about this and a borderline asshole.

Sports will only get tougher in order for them to be prepared or for you to see whether they are committed he needs to follow through.

What area does Ewers need to improve on the most: pre snap recognition or post snap progression?

The most common talking point has been his need to improve going through his progressions but I can’t help but think that shortcoming is partly due to not always reading defenses correctly pre-snap and having a good idea of where to go if first read isn’t there.

But I would like for better football minds to chime in.

I am patiently waiting to see how things are with different receivers. Sometimes things tend to work themselves out, like winning some of those 50/50 balls every now and again. We will see how things go.

NEW: The Texas Military Department confirms the TX National Guard has seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass (city property where mass illegal crossings are), and is restricting Border Patrol from accessing the area, saying the Feds “perpetuate illegal crossings”. This is the area where Border Patrol has been cutting TX razor wire. Razor wire and fences are now deployed to block the area off from the public and federal government. Attached video is from our crew on the ground this morning as they began blocking it off. You can expect DOJ to sue Texas over this.

Texas Military Department statement: “The Texas National Guard has maintained a presence with security points and temporary barrier in Shelby Park since 2021. The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area.”

I reached out to CBP/Border Patrol in the sector for comment hours ago - no response yet.

Meanwhile at every Home Depot in Houston......

Lots of talk this morning about Michigan defense being a more "sophisticated NFL level defense".  Said college teams aren't used to it, and a big reason for Michigan's success this season.  Michigan DBs passed off WRs much better than Texas, and their pass rush was much more dominant.

Sure hope Sark/PK improve the Texas secondary play and pass rush in 2024.

I don't know about how sophisticated they are. Our defense just plays dumb. Constantly giving up inside leverage, whether at the corner or safety level. Cannot figure out how to pass off routes. Simple curls aren't recognized. Late to react to RBs releasing to the flat. However, the biggest issue is not being able to generate any pass rush without bringing the house.

Penix isn't some machine. The second he got pressured, like a lot of QBs, he became errant and his clock sped up. We saw that out of him all year when facing a solid pass rush. We just didn't have one.

Were these the same guys out there last year when TCU throttled their asses?

Interestingly enough, piggybacking off ctj in another discussion, the XM radio crew said UM had 20 draftable guys but none were 1st or 2nd day guys.

Sounds like their experience and maturity played a big part.

TCU last year presented a different challenge with a running QB. Duggan ran for 64 and two scores. Totallt different scenario.

    This is the pre-snap look

I get the point Thatguy is trying to make when it comes to the WR creating leverage, but all of that shit is moot when the defender is so far off and the separation is already there.

Quinn has to adjust the throw towards the space between AD and the pylon instead of lobbing it to the back where the side of the “N” is. Look at all that open space in front yet he decides to throw it into an area that is nearly horizontal to where the defender is.

It is really not....you still have to stim inside to keep the defender from turning too early even with off alignment.

BurntOrange is correct. No matter where the DB is you have to force him to move his feet so you can create separation. Otherwise he will get a great jump on the ball as soon as its thrown. AD runs a soft, rounded off route here and the DB immediately breaks on it. It wouldn't have matter if he threw the ball high or low the DB was never fooled and no matter where the ball was he was going to run through AD to get it anyway.

We don't need to know what the call was. No matter what AD still ran a shit route. You never do what he does here under any circumstances as a receiver. Ever.

Here is a fade run vs off man with inside leverage. Just like above the route stem is run to stress the DBs inside leverage and then a quick adjustment back to the outside. It doesn't matter what scenario you are always taught to manipulate the DB so you can create sep on the break. That is literally 101 receiver training. Also, @MrBig the post about going down with the ship was for Derka. I didn't mean to quote you on it. Ignore all that. Derka called his shot on QE early and ever since Quinn turned the corner he has refused to eat crow on it.

They didn’t do shit on Blues fumble. He hit Helm and just lost the ball. It was a shitty call by the ref to award them the ball because there wasn’t some clear immediate recovery.

Very true, I mentally blocked out that it was a Mark Sanchez.

  15. 23 hours ago, MrBig said:

All of this shit boils down to the fact that Quinn is the field general, his job is to read the defense and adjust his throw based on coverage, and he still throws a fucking fade to the back of the end zone when it’s clear how far off the defender is playing.

This has nothing to do with how many games Penix has played or losing to the “better team.” It boils down to a situation where we need to score a TD to go to the national championship, and Quinn can’t see the soft coverage and still decides to lob it to the side of the end zone. AD is only heading to the pylon if Quinn throws to the pylon, which he did not do. AD ran a stupid looking route because Quinn made a stupid throw. Quinn should be able to see this and go into autopylon mode after starting 20+ games.

no no, you’re wrong. just read ThatGuy’s typically self righteous, condescending post at the top of the page. throwing a deep fade when the DB is 8-10 yards off the WR is “the right play”, and if AD Mitchell wasn’t so lazy then he’d have made the right play and not screwed over his perfect QB who has never made an errant throw or bad read in his life. 🙄 how anyone can watch that play and defend that throw is baffling. the DB couldn’t have asked for an easier throw to defend.

What the hell are you talking about Derka? So you think Quinn is supposed to throw a route AD isn't running because he SEES something else they could've done that would've worked out better even though AD doesn't? How stupid a take is that? AD is the guy who has to recognize that and Quinn is the guy who has to throw it. Otherwise the ball gets airmailed out of bounds at the pylon with AD still running the original route. The fade was called. You can tell the fade was called because of the route AD is running. As a QB you throw the ball WHERE the receiver is, not where you think he should be. The ball is moving 3 times as fast as the receiver is moving. You throw it somewhere other than where he is going/expecting it and no one will be there to catch it. No one said it was the right play. I said that is WHERE you throw the ball if its a fade and your receiver is 6 inches taller than the DB. As I said above, if you are AD your route stem needs to attack the inside leverage which will give you more room to work. Then AD should've come back and got that ball at its highest point. He did none of that.

This is what you do. You jumped on the "Quinn Is Trash" bandwagon early and so you are doubling down and like a good captain, going down with the ship.

    ptLKqG.gif

Since you are new to football this is how you run an end zone fade, or a fade in general.

Notice the guy talking keeps talking about attacking inside leverage and not allowing yourself to drift outside because the DB will close on you, which is exactly what AD did. You will find these exact talking points on every video explaining how to run a fade no matter if its goalline, vs man, or vs zone. So you can argue with coaches now about whether or not AD ran a solid route. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it's wrong.

Help me here. Which coach threw those low passes?

You put up over 300 and no turnovers its time to look elsewhere. Linemen are supposed to put a guy on his back as soon as he disengages to jump up and tip a ball. Its clear they watched film and saw opportunities to tip but so has everyone else all season. QE didn't just all the sudden change the way he throws. As someone said above, their guys outplayed our guys.

    1) Our D-line was once again stout against the run but horrible getting pressure. Their D-line gave up chunks of yardage but came up with 2 opportunistic strips to negate the rush yardage given up. In pass rush they consistently got pressure and didn't allow QE to hold onto the ball all day long.

    2) Their secondary made plays on balls in the air a few times during the game and we made none.

    3) Their receivers consistently won their 1 on 1 battles. Ours were inconsistent in that regard

  18. The pressure rate stat is bs because it accounts for pressures as an each and not per play. What your eyes see is the truth. We have sucked at edge play for seemingly ever, and it was a big big problem all season. We had a couple plays where we got close, and a LOT of plays where he was standing back there for seemingly ever. Literally the worst guy on the planet to give time to. It was the one thing we COULD NO do. They want time. Time gives them separation. Time clears up the passing picture and lets you throw outside the hashes where balls don't get intercepted. We played right into their hands and literally played defense exactly how they would want a team to if they could draw it up for us. We compounded the problem by not playing the ball well in the air. Guy after guy panicked. No one kept their cool and used any technique to time up ball arrival.

Some of the throws were down right perfect, but we also had a chance to do something a couple times and did the opposite. You can't let a QB like that play 7 on 7.
