  1. Can they staff it if they stay open? My understanding is that Angel Fire hires quite a few contract seasonal workers from South America with hard end dates, so it's not feasible for them to stay open after the contracts run. Looks like from their webpage AF is already closed. Their webcams show they still have a shitload of snow. https://www.angelfireresort.com/weather/
  2. Latest info is that Vail may stay open until April 20 or so. I was just there two weeks ago but am thinking about going back 4/11-4/15. Anyone have any experience skiing there that late in the season? Went to Park City 10 years ago in April after a big dump and it was fine (not great). Only other time was A-Basin one time in mid May, which was awesome not for the skiing but for the CU coeds in bikinis. [Golf in the morning and skiing in the afternoon was hard to beat]
  3. David Yeomans has gone to his Fortress of Solitude and is now solving the CenTex drought.
  4. That ROK Golf looks pretty cool, and a great use of that space. Looking forward to checking it out.
  5. 100% this. Whenever we have anything in that area (e.g., Friends of LBJ Library event) we either go East Austin or Hopfields.
  6. Just finished my week at Vail. Last run was Riva Ridge, top to bottom (including Tourist Trap). Fresh 8" and still coming down. Need 70 close so I can stay another day!
  7. 10” in Vail so far today and still coming down. Tomorrow morning on the Back Bowls is going to be epic.

  9. Pulled into Vail at 3:30pm today. Drinks at Bad Kitty. Pazzo's for dinner. Blue Sky Basin by 10:30am tomorrow.
  10. Reddit thread says he's going to Chicago FWIW. He's from Austin (Westlake). Wouldn't surprise me if he makes his way back here some day.
  11. Does anyone in Austin really give a shit about these? I live in West Lake Hills, so doesn't really impact me, but seems unfair to adjacent streets. I have noticed them when I'm cutting through Bouldin to get to Polvos or El Mercado on S. 1st.
  12. Austin Biz Journal article today that Waterloo Records is expected to lose their location at the end of their current lease term (per the article, 3 years appx from now). Endeavor is planning on re-developing that site (although article mentions that they might be able to lease space in the new project, that never happens in my experience). When I first moved to town they were just across Town Lake on South Lamar. @YGIFS you know anything about this travesty?
  13. Going to Vail end of this month for 6 days and looking to book one more trip before the season is over. Never skied Jackson Hole. Website shows they've had almost 300" of snow this season and don't close until mid-April. Thoughts on going there end of March or first week of April?
  14. I have no clue. Just saw it when we were picking up Chinatown to go the other night. We ate at the pizza joint (Love Pizza maybe?) during the 2023 Icepocalypse that knocked out power throughout the Westlake area. It looked like it was only a temporary setup on the inside. A good Tex-Mex place with a bar would be a cool addition there. Decent enough parking and Rollingwooders can stumble home.

  16. "Coming Soon" signage is up for a Pepita's Cafe & Bar in the same center as Chinatown in Rollingwood. Anyone know anything about this place?
  17. Crazy finish in the Scotland v France match. Looked like Scotland scored at the end but was called as held up. France wins.

Tres Amigos, but that was probably 20 years ago.
  19. In 1983, after finishing up classes my freshman year of college, buddy and I spent a week in the Vail/Beaver Creek area. We played 18 holes of golf one morning and then jumped in our car and drove over to A-Basin and skied in the afternoon (along with many CU coeds skiing in bikinis). Been hard topping that over the years.
  20. In my experience, starting in mid-March the conditions really start to deteriorate in New Mexico. I would never plan on a trip in April. Frankly, now that my kids are grown I don't ski in New Mexico after the first week of March to both avoid the slushy conditions and Texas/Oklahoma spring break. We're going to his Vail in early March and then hopefully Park City the first week of April.
  21. In Angel Fire for a few days. Been coming here for 20+ years. Currently some of the best conditions I've seen in years. 81/82 runs open, which is almost unheard of as 4 or 5 of the black runs (hiking access only) are often not open the entire season. Plus no crowds at all this week. Heading over to Taos in the morning. Conditions there look equally as good and crowns also look pretty thin based on webcams.

    Tex Mex

It's in our regular rotation. Food is fresh, salsa is good and there's rarely a wait. Perfectly fine. Nothing really stands out though.
