  1. If Beard was still here, not one person would be criticizing him if Donewald left. Instead it would be “look how well Beard develops his assistants!!!”.
  2. Getting Abmas is now absolutely critical. Having a relatively efficient 25 ppg, high usage bucket getter on you team can cover a lot of other issues.
  3. Looking at NIL deals, On3 had Marcus Carr estimated at $175K last year. I would hope that Disu and Hunter could get comparable deals - especially after our Elite 8 run. Disu is pretty popular - I could see him getting even more than that. It looks like a G-League salary is in the $50K range, but I'm sure players can make more overseas. Coming back to college is definitely a much better financial decision than it used to be if a player isn't drafted. Not only do they get the NIL money, they still get free tuition and room & board. Plus they have the chance to showcase their skills to a much broader audience than in Europe. I have no reason to believe that both of these players won't be back.
  4. I'm not currently seeing Disu on any NBA draft boards. Mitchell is coming in anywhere from 20-35. Tyrese Hunter is 50+ if listed at all. If I'm making bets, I would say that both Tyrese Hunter and Disu both come back. Hopefully we can load them both up with nice NIL deals to make it worth their while. The team is going to be so much more top heavy than last year. I bet all of our starters are going to be in the 30-35 mpg range. If Disu comes back I could see him having one of the better seasons for a Texas big in a long time.
  5. Somewhere we need a master list of transfer portal targets that we can update as they fall off the board or commit.
  6. I'm sure Terry is very familiar with this guy since he recruited him and coached him for a year. Seems like a decent get for some bench depth. Onyema averaged 7.1 pts, 4.4 reb in 20 mpg for UTEP last year. For reference Christian Bishop averaged 6.6 pts, 3.4 reb in 18 min for us last year. So if Onyema continues to develop, he could probably replace some of that production. Free throw shooting at 56% is a concern... but it is up from 30%!! Also looks like he is eligible for two years of play.
  7. For me, the minimum bar is making the tournament regardless of who leaves any given year. And it goes up from there given the circumstances.
  8. If Kansas treated either of their last two games against us seriously, they would have been playing in Kansas City for the Sweet 16 and their season would have looked a lot different.
  9. It is clear now that RT isn't inheriting much from this year and will basically be building from scratch. How many wins next year will be a success for RT? If he builds a team that makes the tourney? Makes it past the first weekend? It would be nice to establish the goalpost right now when things look the bleakest. I predict that once the commits start rolling in, some people will be like "well with THIS team of course he should make the Sweet 16".
  10. Then again, if Askew and Ramey don't transfer - we don't get Tyrese Hunter and Jabari Rice. No Hunter and Rice and no Elite 8. So I guess Beard did a good job BY getting his key players to transfer. Advantage Beard.
  11. 5-star PG you say? Lol. I guess I missed Beard convincing Askew, Courney Ramey, Tre Mitchel and Jaylon Tyson to stay. Not to mention the year before. What a terrible post.
  12. So you are saying someone is about to get their hands on a growing dick that is a prolific shooter? Welp, I guess that is good if you are into it.
  13. I was never impressed with Duncan Robinson. He seemed unathletic AF. Like... put your worst defender on him, over-play the three, and sleep easy at night. If you are just going to be a 3-point specialist, you need to at least have some other skill - ideally defense, but you could also be a great ball handler, have good court vision, be a hustle guy and grab boards... SOMETHING. Robinson was a one-trick pony and now everyone knows the trick. He shot like 32% from 3 this year.
  14. Yes. Do you recall who was #1 on that list? Tyler Herro by a pretty big margin if I recall. I would take Herro in an instant over Lavine. Mark my words, Lavine will never win anything significant. He is about as much of a "me first" player as there is in the NBA.
  15. What I meant by that is someone like Kalib Boone isn’t going to come here if he is going to come off the bench. And we aren’t going to bench Disu. And it is going to be hard to not start Ron Holland. So we definitely have room for more bodies, but it will be hard to load up with all-conference type players.
  16. Bullshit. If I am the only one who missed all these stupid posts claiming RT and Beard are equals then it should be super easy to find one. But they don’t exist. Because if they did I have ZERO doubt you would post a hundred of them. So until you actually post one, I’m going to keep calling bullshit on that narrative that a lot of our fanbase thinks we just swapped equals. I suppose someone here could make the process easier if they could speak up if they have that opinion. (Crickets)
  17. I would love to see one quote, just ONE quote where someone directly said that RT and Beard were in the same league. I read just about every post on this board and I don't recall anyone ever even implying that.
  18. The team that lost to ACU was Final Four caliber. We finished #9 in the final season poll. That team was stacked and criminally underachieved. Did Chris Beard keep Kai Jones, Greg Brown, Jerecho Sims, and Matt Coleman from going pro, even though they all had college eligibility left? Nope. Did Chris Beard keep Kamaka Hepa, Donovan Williams and Royce Hamm from hitting the portal? Nope. It all worked out fine, even though a lot of us were very worried at the time. Let's give Terry a little time and see what happens.
  19. I still am hopeful that we will have a very good team next year. We could very easily end up with this team: Tyrese Hunter (6'0 G) - Started 38 games on Elite 8 team Max Abmas (6'0 G) - Summit PoY, NCAA All-Region Team (Oral Roberts) Quincy Olivari (6'3 G) - 2x All-CUSA (Rice) Kalib Boone (6'9 F) - All Big-12 (Oklahoma State) Dylan Disu (6'9 F) - Started 35 games on Elite 8 team, Big12 Tourney MVP Ron Holland (6'8 F) - 5-star, #6 National Recruit Brock Cunningham - (6'5 F) - 113 games played for Texas, on most of our best lineups Kadin Shedrick (6'11 C) - 35 starts for Virginia Alex Anamekwe (6'5 F) - Minimum minutes. Will probably not be an impact player for a few more years We won't get all of these players, and honestly we don't have room for them all. TLDR version: Relax. Lot of stuff will happen over the next month.
  20. Hepa wound up at Hawaii. Last year he averaged 11.5 pts, 6.6 reb, 2.0 3s with pretty solid efficiency. He is now out of eligibility.
  21. For me, Morris is a much bigger loss for the college game which is dominated by guards. Mitchell is making a good decision if he goes in the 1st round. If not, I think it would be better for him to develop while continuing to cash them NIL checks.
  22. Chris Beard was on the verge of turning Texas into a monster. Anyone who thinks RT will be as successful as Beard COULD have been are not worth debating. Beard definitely has the higher ceiling, which approaches dynasty level. That said, one is here and the other isn't, because Beard despite all of his salesmanship and coaching prowess... is a moeran. Let's also all remember that Beard was 65-38 in his last 4 seasons (63.1%). Granted, it looked like he had it going in 22/23, but there are no guarantees. And yes, Terry has a career 0.530 record, but that includes two major rebuilds at historically bad teams. His last 3 years at Fresno he was 66-34 (66.0%). He won't be a 0.500 coach at Texas. I would bet my retirement on it.
  23. The Pelicans should have offered up Zion for Kevin Durant back a couple of months ago. New Orleans would be sick with Durant. And they have a ton of picks to get more assets as needed. And I bet Brooklyn would have rolled the dice and taken that deal. Wonder if Minnesota would trade KAT for Zion. Couple of underachievers who could use a change of scenery. Did anyone really think that New Orleans with some of the best, most fattening food on the planet, would work out well for Zion?
