  1. This. The Scandinavian countries are virtually monocultural. The US is THE melting pot of the world. Its one of our strengths but cultural and racial strife come with that. With the ascent of social media, it defines us right now. And as for romantic relationships, these kids have no idea how to flirt with each other. At all. There is nothing like taking a few weeks to get up the guts to ask out that hot girl and either succeed or fail. And then do it again. Oh and everything isn't personal man. We could all use a refresher on that.
  2. A lot of good points here but for me this biggest difference from my childhood is tech/social media. Everyone has a bullhorn now and so many of them are batshit crazy or evil. Tailor made for extreme tribalism. So now we are a nation of people who scream at each other and don't listen to anybody. My Apple News feed uses some perverted search algorithm that makes the app nothing much more than an outrage/fear machine. Every other story is something I need to be pissed or worried about, notwithstanding the fact that I probably can't change it. Now spring all that shit on young people without enough grounding experiences to keep them sane, and here we are. [Dont forget to add in the madness of Covid] The upcoming election will ramp this whole deal up by eleventy billion times. You win elections by identifying a problem and making sure to blame the guy you're trying to beat. You read enough of that crap you can't help but be miserable.
  3. My wife is a type A but generally even keeled. We are older parents and she went through this when our kids were toddlers. If we didn't have kids no way I would have stuck it out. All the unexpected meltdowns and screaming at everybody over trivia. Holy shit. Wouldn't ever go through that again. Seriously words can't express how much that sucked.
  4. One of the best posts I have ever read on this site. [An admittedly low bar but I digress] I would summarize the omelette scene in particular as the ancient Greek concept of "Arete" meaning the pursuit of excellence for its own sake which allows one to fulfill their purpose(s) in life. I would submit that in our relentless pursuit of efficiency we have lost a lot of that and need to get it back.
  5. I still have folks up in Pampa and Borger. Made the drive between them too many times to count. I know fire is part of the deal there but they just had a bad one within the last decade. This is so bad. Great people up there so hate to see them going through this ordeal.
  6. Whats the saying, you don't have to out swim the sharks, just the people you're swimming with? ATM is swimming with Texas, LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and OU. Collectively they wouldn't even look at most of the guys Aggy is braying about. Dog paddling in those waters isn't going to work out. I'm here for it.
  7. Yeah not having it on Worthy. Dude fucking balled out at Texas.
  8. So OU has been buying players since the leather helmet days but now that its out in the open and anyone can do it they are uber conservative to where it makes them non-competitive? I call bullshit.
  9. My grandfather worked a ranch in the Texas Panhandle and loved baseball. When he came to visit us in Arlington we always went to Turnpike Stadium to watch the AA DFW Spurs. When I was 11 the Texas Rangers moved to town. Instead of watching the Arkansas Travelers, we took Gramps to watch our hometown MLB team play the fucking New York Yankees. That kinda thing sticks with you forever. Baking in those bleachers for $3.75. 7PM starts at 95 degrees. Farm and Ranch night. Never missing a bat night, which supplied all our neighborhood baseball bats every summer. All that bad baseball but we loved them all the same. After the line drive over Nellie Cruz in 2011 I turned it off and monitored the score on my phone. I figured if Texas somehow won I would go back and watch, but watching the meltdown in real time was too painful. Still never seen the Freese home run and hopefully never will. Just hurts too much. And now you can say Texas Rangers World Series Champions. Man how sweet it is. Surely in that great ranch in the sky Gramps has a smile on his face.
  10. Say what you want about SMU but those BMD arent fucking around. Gotta respect that.
  11. That ending was like doing a show on the history of the Chicago Cubs and ending in 2015. So much of the theme was overcoming Boston. You have to show all that.
  12. And the guy playing Jerry West is fucking killing it along with Brody and Reilly. Casting is just brilliant. First show I thought this is going to be so over the top I will hate it, and it's just the best thing on TV right now. Please god give me at least a third season.
  13. Beneath that GQ exterior Riley was a killer and so were his teams. Broke my spirit as a Mavs fan in the 80s
  14. Cant wait to see the whole emergence of Alpha Dog Pat Riley kicking some ass. Going to be awesome. Brody is great casting there.
  15. I didn't really want to like this since I remember those events, etc and wasn't digging the comedy piece. But holy shit these people were so inept there is no other way to characterize this deal. Morons. And the best part is Nixon was never ever in danger of losing that election.
