  1. Sometimes seems like nobody actually lives there. Population is around 3800 I think. The short term rental thing has gotten out of control though.
  2. Haha I probably know most of them. Virginia is good people though. Most of the locals live in RV parks, but Port A did build the new apartments called Paladium for some low income housing. The current housing situation in Port A is bad and unsustainable. It’s really, really, really hard to hire decent help in the service industry.
  3. Hope you tipped Virginia well. I’m still not used to the new location. I’m still in Costa Rica but will be back in Port A in a week.2 months at “home” and then straight back to CR for most of the summer.
  4. I think it’s a fairly good time to buy. The market definitely seems softer than it was the first 2 years after Covid. I’m currently in the process of buying something. They are struggling a little bit with the cartel violence but so far it really isn’t spilling into the general public or tourists. But I’m definitely a little more cautious about where and what time of day I go somewhere than I was even just last year.
  5. Yeah we ended up 4/5 on sailfish the other day and 0/2 on blues and I would have been thrilled with that back when I had my boat in Port A. But for here it was by far our worst day of the season. Most days we are getting about 30ish billfish bites, a few days in the high teens and a few days with 45+. Tournament coming up on Saturday and hopefully the fishing picks up again. I fish out of Marina Pez Vela in Quepos. Los Suenos about an hour north of here is good too.
  6. August works and yeah that’s still prime season. I’ll shoot you a text.
  7. Welp slow start. Raised one sailfish and one blue marlin. Caught the sail but jumped the blue off. edit- and 5 minutes after the post we just raised another blue. Blind bite on the flat rod ballyhoo but didn’t hook up. Good sign though, that’s 2 in less than 2 hours and we’ve only seen 6 all year. As good as the marlin bite was last sailfish season, this year has been really slow for blues but great for sailfish. Definitely the best sailfish season since ‘21.
  8. And a few drone shots from the last few weeks portafino sail 3:26.mov 8948038c-f9db-425d-bfbc-d30c33337769.mp4
  9. Current situation heading out for another day of fishing. Just a little under 3 weeks left on the winter sailfish season, then back home until the last part of June. @troph that’s marlin season and we will be in CR from late June until mid September.
  10. I mean we don’t even have to look away from our former teams to see that yes, players can improve their shot drastically while in college or after when they hit the NBA. I have no idea if Mitchell will do it, but to write off a player with his athleticism is a weird take. I definitely would like to see him back next year. Hunter too for what it’s worth.
  11. I think of Spaghetti Warehouse as more of an 80’s thing and like you I’m not sure I ever even ate there. Mezzaluna (which I loved) opened in what ‘89 or so? There was also a good older Italian place near the Back 40 bar. City Grill was another good downtown restaurant. Man looking back it’s amazing how limited the options were.
  12. Haven for Hope in San Antonio houses close to 2000 individuals, provides a shitload of services including mental health, medical, dental, clothing, relocation, etc., but Austin is somehow better? Come on dude.
  13. Family friend was killed by one of his bulls he was trying to move into a new pasture. Not sure if a gun would have helped him or not.
  14. Don’t think that shooting was so random. Spring Break attracts a really bad crowd these days, especially down around the mile markets where it happened.
  15. Lol we do not need to win 2 games to get in.
  16. That’s exactly what I kept telling my math professors. They didn’t listen to me either.
  17. So many people in CR now are bitching about how expensive CR has gotten. Those prices on that menu look pretty similar to what I am seeing here. Overall did you find it a lot cheaper than CR or pretty similar?
  18. Anyone coming down this year? Going on month 2 right now and here until late April. They changed the entry stamp from 90 days to 180 which makes things a lot easier. I’ll be back for all of July and August too. Prices are noticeably up for almost everything, still a bit cheaper than Texas but not by much anymore. It’s also much more crowded than I’ve ever seen it. @immamac my last Burnt Endz koozie went overboard while we were fishing the other day. Need more por favor.
  19. Haha. We were probably fishing near your friends and I bet I saw them around the dock. That’s definitely the Double Nickel. Probably the best true charter boat in the Quepos marina currently.
  20. No worries, just curious if I knew the guys. Honestly I don’t know too many of the Los Suenos boats real well and if I remember from last time we talked about this I think they fish out of there and not Quepos down the coast an hour where I am.
  21. Yup. 15-20 releases is at the top of the fleet most days and a few days some boats have done even better. Sailfish have been around in big numbers this season so far but very few marlin. It was the complete opposite last year.
  22. Great day on the new boat yesterday. After a slow morning with just a few sailfish we hooked a black marlin just before noon. Got the release 2.5 hours later. Lines back in the water and 5 minutes later caught a double header sailfish. Lines back in the water and 10 minutes later we hook another black marlin. This time it “only” takes about 2 hours. Run back in and barely make it to the marina by dark. Gotta brag on my girl she hooked both the marlin and fought them both the majority of the time. We’ve caught a ton of blue and striped marlin down here in 8 seasons, but those were the first 2 blacks ever. 6b4903cc-afd2-4bd3-8be2-093ca9413cba.mov
