  4. Not sure accurate... but on a YouTube podcast yesterday, one theory is ucla did not want to pay for buyouts of assistants. Foster was willing to agree to hang on to some of thr existing coaching staff under contract. Basically take your shot DeShaun but you're on a short leash -- probably only gets 2yrs to show real progress. Then... (Also... Supposedly Foster previously asked to be Chip's replacement if Chip resigned, but someone at ucla said no -- so Foster left to take the LV Raiders RB coaching position.)

  8. Bobby Burton this morning: According to a high-ranking university source, Texas won't be playing any football or basketball regular season games vs B12 teams soon. "When Texas (and Oklahoma) first accepted the invitation to move into the SEC, Tech attempted to publicly negotiate an agreement with the Horns to continue playing an annual football game. The Red Raiders can now put those plans in the rear-view mirror." https://ontexasfootball.com/news/monday-no-big-12-teams-on-future-schedule-r193/
  9. Today... 😋 Monday: No Big 12 Teams on Future Schedule By Bobby Burton 51 minutes ago It should come as little surprise, but for those thinking that Texas may attempt to rekindle a game with Texas Tech, Baylor, or any other Big 12 team soon, I am told don't hold your breath. According to a high-ranking university source, the riff between Texas and the Big 12 has not ebbed in recent months, even if it is no longer a major topic within the athletic department. Brett Yormark's public pre-season comments in Lubbock and those of deputy Big 12 commissioner Tim Weiser on radio row at Big 12 media days still echo in the memories of Texas power brokers. Those words and actions have swayed the current University of Texas athletic leadership to no longer genuinely contemplate playing any former Big 12 school in football or basketball. Not for the foreseeable future. When Texas (and Oklahoma) first accepted the invitation to move into the SEC, Tech attempted to publicly negotiate an agreement with the Horns to continue playing an annual football game. The Red Raiders can now put those plans in the rear-view mirror. "It's just not going to happen," the source said of any Big 12 teams on the future schedule in football or basketball. "The Big 12 made their bed." The attitude of others toward Texas apparently plays a role in that decision. "We're the bad guys," the source said. "We're always the bad guys when all we want is what's best for us. Any one of them would have done the same if they had gotten the invite (to the SEC) that we did."
  10. Confirmed... OL coach gone too (pretty sure Scott Huff is also PK's close friend) Alabama’s Scott Huff follows Ryan Grubb to Seattle Seahawks as offensive line coach: Report Story by Matt Stahl, al.com • 14h Alabama football will be looking for an offensive line coach. Again. According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Scott Huff, who had followed Kalen DeBoer to the Crimson Tide from Washington, is taking the same job with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. The news comes after Ryan Grubb, who had also briefly been at Alabama as offensive coordinator, reportedly accepted the OC job in Seattle. Huff preceded DeBoer’s two-season tenure with the Huskies. He spent seven seasons as the offensive line coach for the Huskies. Huff built his group at Washington into a unit that won the 2023 Joe Moore Award, which goes to the nation’s top offensive line. Before joining the Huskies, Huff spent the majority of his coaching career at Boise State. He coached from 2006 to 2016 with the Broncos. Prior to Boise State, Huff had been a graduate assistant with Arizona State. He played his college football at Boise State as well. The Huff defection leaves DeBoer with two on-field positions to fill on his new Crimson Tide staff. The first chance fans will have to peek in at what the new coach is building will be April 13, when Alabama hosts its annual A-Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

  20. Sources: Seahawks hiring Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator The Seattle Seahawks are hiring former University of Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to the same position on new coach Mike Macdonald's staff, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel on Friday. Grubb had accepted the Alabama offensive coordinator job after spending the past two seasons at Washington under former Huskies and current Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer, coordinating a pass-heavy offense that ranked sixth in the FBS in yards per game (487.0) and sixth in scoring (36.7) in that span. With Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback, the Huskies led the FBS in passing yards per game (355.8) the past two seasons and ranked 15th in dropback percentage, calling passing plays 61.8% of the time. Grubb was set to be Alabama's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, having followed DeBoer to Tuscaloosa when he was hired in January after Nick Saban retired. Washington had passed on hiring Grubb as DeBoer's replacement. Instead, Grubb will return to Seattle for his first job in the NFL. He becomes the third coordinator hired to Macdonald's Seahawks staff. They have tabbed Jay Harbaugh to run special teams and Aden Durde to coordinate their defense, though Macdonald will call plays on that side of the ball. Seattle has also hired Leslie Frazier as assistant head coach. Grubb is expected to bring Alabama offensive line coach Scott Huff with him to the Seahawks, sources told ESPN. Huff coached Washington's offensive line for the past seven years, including the past two with Grubb. Last season, the Huskies' offensive line won the Joe Moore Award as the top line in college football. At Washington, Grubb also served as the Huskies' quarterbacks coach, working closely in that role with Penix, who threw a combined 67 touchdown passes in 28 games over the past two seasons. Penix finished runner-up in Heisman Trophy voting in December. That connection will fuel speculation about Seattle drafting Penix, who is widely projected to be taken in the first two rounds. The Seahawks own the 16th overall pick, no second-round pick and an extra third-rounder. Geno Smith is under contract for two more seasons and $47.5 million, though he might not be a lock to remain Seattle's starter after an up-and-down 2023 season. That total includes a $12.7 million base salary for 2024 that will become fully guaranteed if Smith is still on Seattle's roster on Feb. 16. Grubb replaces Shane Waldron, who served as Seahawks' offensive coordinator for the past three seasons and was hired to the same position with the Chicago Bears in January after Seattle fired Pete Carroll. Grubb had worked with DeBoer in four previous stops and served as offensive coordinator for all four programs: Washington, Fresno State, Eastern Michigan and Sioux Falls. He began his college coaching career in 2005 at South Dakota State, working with wide receivers and running backs, and has also coached the offensive line and quarterbacks during his nearly two decades in the college ranks. While Grubb has never worked in the NFL, Macdonald said during his introductory news conference that NFL playcalling experience wasn't a prerequisite for his offensive coordinator in Seattle. "It's not near the top of the list," Macdonald said. "We're looking for the right person to come in here and build this thing, so we want someone that's open-minded, that has a growth mindset, that can connect with their players and build a system that's unique to the Seattle Seahawks, that's going to live here a long time and he's going to be the one spearheading it." The Seahawks had requested an interview for their offensive coordinator vacancy with Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, according to the MMQB. Former UCLA coach Chip Kelly and former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson were also among their interviews, sources told ESPN. The New York Giants blocked a request to speak with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who had previously interviewed twice for Seattle's head-coaching vacancy. © Provided by ESPN
