  1. My dad and his wife are artists. Paid the bills and raised two kids with art. The talent skipped a generation with me but I appreciate art. The mixing of old and new techniques is interesting to me. Hand-drawn pictures with old real photos embedded, and then digitally altered and finally printed on an old-school printing press... I like stuff like that. Jake Bryer's digitally layers composite photographs are some of my favorite work from the last few years. I have a few of his prints on my walls. If you're looking for quality local art without pretentious gallery prices, check out Austin Art Garage hidden on South Lamar. They have lots of work from local artists. 2. This thread already a has every eatery from my childhood in north Austin in the late 70's to mid 80's. Scampi's Organ Pizza with that cymbal-banging monkey, Monterrey House on Burnet with those badass crumbly candies after the meal (That candy is called Leche Quemada, it's my favorite candy of all time, not to be confused that that nasty praline bar soft shit that looks like it. Last place I found it was a hole in the wall Mexican Joint called Noyola's in Humble), Pizza Inn, Showbiz Pizza, The Stallion. My dad bought a booth from The Stallion when they shut down and it was in our kitchen the rest of my childhood.
  3. I'm at 5 months. Deck coating, equipment, and plaster to go.
  4. That is stock suspension. In that photo the AHC is in High because we had gone down 27 miles of dirt roads with some rocky creek crossings to get there. But it normally rides an inch or two lower in Neutral node. I'm happy with the AHC setup. My lines aren't rusty and everything still works fine. I did buy a new set of AHC globe actuators that I haven't installed yet. It still rides smoother than my 2006 Tacoma but not as smooth as others describe and I suspect my AHC globes are near the end of their life. You can test that by counting the fluid graduations in the reservior between High mode and Low. My graduations are at 7 which is the threshold for needing replacement, 14 graduations is what new globes should have. The system works still but I'm told the ride will improve with new globes that move more fluid. I've flushed the fluid before and it was fairly simple. Swapping globes with a fluid flush shouldn't be much harder, except some people report a lot of difficulty unscrewing the old globes and have to resort of a chisel and hammer. I've been soaking mine in PB Blaster every few days lately and might tackle that this week. I need the AHC because with the tent on top it will only fit in my garage if I lower it all the way to Low mode. If I replace it with conventional suspension I'll need to remove the tent or park outside. My wheels are stock. They were powdercoated black. The tires are 285/75r16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. My understanding is that that's the largest size that won't rub. The nittos have a little less agressive tread than BFG K02s. All in all I really like the vehicle. I put a ton of miles on it and I find it very comfortable and enjoyable to drive, albeit slow. I'm going to drive it for another year and a half or so and then it will go to one of my sons.
  5. Not much going on here on my front. They poured my deck a few weeks ago. Still waiting on equipment installation, deck coating, and plaster. Question on the equipment: I recall a lot of folks having their stuff freeze up and break last year during the snowpocalypse. Other than leaving it running at a low speed, what could have been done to prevent that? Do people ever build a little enclosure around it? Is that practical or worthwhile?
  6. Michael Ungar is the the correct answer. Dude was like a caged animal unleashed on special teams. Ricky and Ced were technically walk-ons, but not quite the same as a guy who barely made the team and then did great things beyond expectations. Kyle Shanahan was also a notable walk-on but never did too much on the field.
  7. Well I often put on the robe and hat… I just wasn’t sure what to make of it in this thread.
  8. That's a staged gimmick they do at lots of airshows.
  9. No Kasey needs to focus on Whitfield's. Damn trailer is closed every time I drive by it.
  10. I heard it's down to KD Lang and Kianna Dior.
  11. I find that very weird too. I keep mine on private. And who in the fuck pays back the cost of a burger at lunch anyway? Just buy their lunch next time... WTF?
  12. Chris was a damn choke artist in the biggest moments but he was tough. He’d whip both their asses… and then he’d irritate the fuck out of everybody on TV talking about it.
  13. The problem with murdering Asians is that an hour later you’re already ready to murder two more.
  14. Just eliminate the coin toss and make the decider something teams have control over. Team with the fewest turnovers gets the ball first, sudden death. Or the most total yards. Or fewest penalty yards. There’s a million things they could use instead of a coin toss.
  15. Nah. The risk/reward suits me fine. I can re-key the house locks in 10 minutes and cancel a few cards with a swipe on an app. The two cards that would really matter get carried with me. Never had a car broken into in my whole life. Of course it could happen, but carrying a bunch of stuff irritates me and I’m not gonna be in that state every day just to avoid something that unlikely. I think watching my dad hoard, collect, stash, and generally always be the guy bringing way too much shit everywhere has molded me to do the opposite.
  16. This is what makes me think there’s more to the story than we are hearing. Nobody’s turning around in the air for basic peaceful mask non-compliance. Those are generally being handled exactly like you described. The ones making the news are the ones that got escalated into something beyond the mask.
  17. Check into CLEAR. it’s superior to pre-check when it comes to getting thru TSA quickly. Last summer they were doing a 2 month free trial and I was able to time that to cover 3 vacations. It’s every bit as easy as the website claims it is and you can sign up for it at the airport in less than 10 minutes and use it immediately; there’s no waiting for approval. Your membership covers the kids too. https://www.clearme.com/enroll/?p=GBREXTRIAL&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInoWPrufI9QIV0Rx9Ch2JPACgEAAYASAAEgJiAPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  18. Grind beans, heat water in a proper spouted kettle, pour over the grinds. No brewing machine necessary. I use a chemex if I’m making more than a cup. I use a Melitta cone and #4 filter over a mug when it’s just me. Simple, easy, perfect cup of coffee. 7-8 minutes tops and half of that is heating the water while I’m getting dressed.
  19. I quit carrying a wallet a decade or so ago. Have had several systems of phone cases, money clips, untethered folded bills, etc... For the last couple of years I’ve had this JimmyCase. It’s a strong elastic band on the back of the phone case. It holds quite a few cards but I despise carrying a bunch of shit so mine stays slim. I carry a debit card, one credit card, and my license. Cash gets folded and kept right there with the cards. It’ll easily handle a dozen or so bills along with 7 or 8 cards. The elastic is really heavy duty and stays tight I keep traditional wallet in my car with a bigger chunk of cash and all the other cards in my life. Gas cards, insurance cards, a couple other credit cards, various membership cards, etc... There’s just no need to have that shit on your person. I’m also a minimalist with keys. I carry one single key. My car key. Home locks are all keypads and the house key and every other key in my life is on a key ring that stays in the car with the aforementioned wallet. Having all that shit in my pockets would drive me crazy.
  20. Been meaning to get out there. Never been. I recently learned they have gun ranges there too. I camp and mountain bike at a place up not far from there. A stop in on the way home would make for a pretty good weekend.

    RIP Meat Loaf

He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher glances over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted down the third base line, the suicide squeeze is on! Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close, holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!
