ABIA is one of the shittiest airports in the US in just about every category. It's as if the planners wanted to discourage area growth and accessibility.
Security effectiveness and efficiency - has always been bad - now worse.
Access to parking garages, shuttles, taxi, uber, etc. requires crossing drop-off and pick-up traffic. WTF?
Parking capacity
Terminal hall width
I've been flying in and out of the Indianapolis airport quite a bit as of late. It is a night and day experience compared to ABIA. The city/state/etc. planners definitely want to encourage persona travel, business travel, and enablement of commerce in the area. Sure, the weather sucks 3-4 months per year there, but it sure is easy to travel there
Same with the Portland airport. Getting to/from it is a pain, but the entire experience while you are there is fantastic. In fact, restaurants are not allowed to charge more for food/beverage at the airport than they do at their in-town establishments. Imagine my surprise when I paid $6 for a pint at PDX.
