Texas Recruiting Notes 2023: Strippers, Monkeys, and 5-Stars
dilloncp98 replied to Machinator's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
SIAP, but anyone seen an update on Justin Benton (the DL committed to WVU)? Haven’t seen anything on him since our visit, is he signing late? -
SIAP: On3 reporting that Hicks is visiting Oregon again this weekend. Since he’s out of play for us, I’d love to see him leave the region.
-
SIAP: Seeing that Rashad Samples may return to the college ranks. He’d be a good recruiting replacement if we lose Marion to Tulsa.

Given we’ve lost 8 of our last 11, you’d think some of you wouldn’t be so shocked at this result. Here’s where we’re at personnel wise: Card is a our qb (horrid last year, looking improved but still can’t open the field vertically) WR: without worthy, this group is bad. Whittington is good but can’t do it alone. Neyor Injury is huge. Rb: obviously elite TE: Solid group Oline: Super young and inexperienced, first road game. Edge: Laughable Interior D line: still waiting on guys to “figure it out” in year 5 LB: pretty much the same group as last year DB: mild personnel improvements? Realistically, why should I expect us to be better than last year? If you look at Card’s 3 road starts last year, yesterday was actually significant improvement. I’m not saying a lot of y’all don’t have valid points, but grow some thicker skin. The two players who should’ve helped us improve most are out (Quinn and Neyor). Hudson played a good game, but it’s obvious teams (and sark) don’t respect his deep ball, causing the same 2nd half offensive issues as last year. Sorry you bought the bama fools gold. My expectation/hope for this year was 7 or 8 regular season wins. Take a step back from the ledge and let the season play out.

Texas basketball '21-'22: Welcome Chris Beard
dilloncp98 replied to shadow_operative's topic in Basketball
Even though Beard likes his guys to be able to switch, he probably wants to add a defensive big that can handle the Edey’s and Williams of the world. A respected basketball poster on 247 was advocating for a transfer big from UT Arlington. He’s not great offensively, but he can guard bigs and block shots -
Very fair point. One can only wonder if he would’ve assumed that role had he been announced the starter in August. Hopefully Sark learned the value of team leadership

That’s your take? It was clear that healthy Casey > Card. But the inexperienced, highly rated, fan favorite freshman got the start. Now we have Ewers. Can’t blame Casey for not wanting to ride that carousel again.

This. We would’ve thrown a riot had Tyler Johnson gone to any other school, especially if we chose to pass on him. Tyler Johnson likes making films (or some weird shit like that) and actually cares about school. That hasn’t been a reason for us not to pursue in the past (Hayden Connor, our OL losses to Stanford). Frankly, I question the football focus of any lineman not looking to go to the SEC (especially guys who consider USC and us). Does that mean we shouldn’t pursue guys like Cambell and Neto? God no. We can’t sit here and act like we’re in a position to turn down top 100 OL recruits. Has Tyler Johnson been a wasted scholarship? Yes. Should we have offered him? Yes. 6’6” 300 Lb athletic tackles don’t grow on trees. Maybe if the last coach hadn’t fed him runny eggs, he would’ve cared more about football.
