  1. I sent out some 120 myself that should be getting delivered to the lab today. It’s nothing real special, but I wanted to use the Mamiya a bit and see if it was worth getting a spot meter or not.

My hands and legs still aren’t quite recovered enough to shoot super well unless I setup on a tripod, which I was able to do on a quick trip to Big Bend a few weeks ago. I didn’t shoot much, but at least I shot some.

Every time I freak out that rolls are lost in the mail they show up the next day. So hopefully they arrive today or Monday.

Did I miss something (very likely), what happened to your hands and legs??

Swayze, that was a great group of photos.  Each one was perfect. The sand dunes will make a great screensaver.  Well done.

Thanks.  I appreciate it.  Here are a few more from the trip.  Oh, and my 2 rolls of 120 haven't arrived at the lab yet.  Starting to get worried.

  3. Without Baylor that joint is out of business in a week. I’m sure the owner loves counter help spouting off with stupid opinions about probably 2/3 of their customers.

    Fuck Baylor.

  4. Nice! Did you stay at the Blue Swallow? I’ve wanted to but haven’t ever got around to it yet on any of my trips.

We didn’t. I didn’t have a lot of time to plan the trip, so I am sure it was already booked up a month in advance. I think the three or four times I have passed it, it was always full. This was my first time at night. Definitely cool. I would like to stay there once as well.
  5. Y’all love to make this thread an abortion just like this photo of Helberg’s bbq is an abortion. The difference is, it tasted phenomenal, unlike this shit sandwich for the last page.

Bonus points for the gal taking our order telling me they don’t support Baylor despite their proximity to that Baptist shithole.

  6. Any good rotisserie chicken places?
Also any Hallal Guys alternatives would be welcome. I keep giving them chances, and I keep having bad meals there.

I’ve been really wanting to try Gourmandize Mediterranean Grill food truck at 2829 Chimney Rock. Their instructions agram looks pretty amazing.

    Edit:

Not exactly what you were asking for, but they have grilled wings.
  7. Are those prices on the menu board current?  I haven't seen a pound of brisket or ribs for $20 a pound in a long time.

Knock yourself out. Last time I went there they should have paid me to eat the garbage they served me.

  8. If you find yourself in Jacinto City, the tacos at Chicharrones El Güero are good. Barbacoa was solid. Carnitas needed more salt. Salsas were good.

  9. Fortunately for me I have another avenue for health care so hopefully I'm not in that boat!

Yep, when I got laid off during covid, I got on my wife’s insurance. Then I got a contract job and just stayed on her plan. Hell, I am direct now and I just stayed with hers because I am lazy.
  10. Anything ya'll can tell me about contract work other than what I find on my own?   I had ruled this out initially but since my hunting has been so spectacularly putird I'm considering it.
    I know the following:
    1.   Depends on whether it's W-2 or 1099.  That affects withholding.
    2.   Little or no benefits and a day off is unpaid.
    3.  The obvious of no job security and having to look for something new every few months.
Curious what people around here have done.

I have done two contract roles, both were W-2. Both offered health insurance and 401k, however the insurance wasn’t cheap and neither contributed to 401K. One did give paid vacation after 5 years (lol). This last time, for a foreign oil company, they gave us all the paid holidays that their direct employees got. They didn’t have to, but since it wasn’t an American company, they actually cared about doing the right thing for employees.

I would do contract again, but would need a much higher rate. In fact, I wish I would have stayed at the last job and asked for the raise to offset no PTO or matching 401k.
