  • How to Buy a 5-Star Recruit: The Demond Demas Saga

    texifornia

Condensing the great work done by @Neonmoon, @Burt Macklin, etc.

Five-star WR and aggy commit Demond Demas wanted to transfer from North Forest High School to Tomball High School. He stated it was to better his living situation, and not for athletics (DESPITE his two younger brothers not making the move with him). There were rumors he had been living with Hunter Dunn's family in Tomball.

UIL denied the waiver. aggy blamed the evil sips.

North Forest head coach Terrell stated under oath that Demas was being shopped as a package deal with Dunn to schools like Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, and LSU.

    Quote

Terrell also said he was notified by coaches at LSU, Mississippi and Oklahoma State that Whitfield was “shopping” Demas and Dunn as a “package” to prospective schools. Demas committed to A&M last September while at North Forest. Dunn has not picked a school.

It turns out QB Hunter Dunn wants a better WR to make him look good so he can get an athletic scholarship

    image.png.6654173918adbcb63592660a6af27564.png

Demand wanted to be closer to Raaschad Whitfield aka Footwork King to get free training.

The head coach of Tomball high school is Kevin Flanigan. Turns out he went to aggy and his daughter works for them as a recruiting assistant. What a better place for A&M to make sure no other schools come calling with better offers than one with an A&M head coach.

It also turns out, that Footwork King business is on property owned by the Dunn family

the whole point of this is exactly that - it's just as absurd to think UT had anything to do with Demas. That's why it's fucking hilarious.

What does this guy know? He probably doesn’t believe the volleyball story either. Surly refuses to let the media spike down a story and drown the truth!

When something involves this many pieces of factual evidence, it's pretty fucking silly to label it a conspiracy theory.  There's too many convenient coincidences for there not to be something to it.

Well obviously there are many pieces, but what does it really all mean?

It could be as simple as having a kid who really wants to get out of that school and better himself. Jimbo gets on the Aggy network/what you will and tada: Tomball, with an aggy HC. He can help!

Then the QB's dad is all about it, 'cos his son can look good throwing to a guy like that, so hell yah, he can stay at our house. "Where you going, D? Oh, to work with that Footwork guy? Cool.... What's that? He needs some space to run his business out of? Cool, have him come by and we can talk about that! Be home by 8:30, it's Burrito Night!"

Wish there were more to it, and maybe there is, but I don't think this is some slam dunk thing here.

There doesn't have to be a grand conspiracy for there to be shenanigans. We have, it would seem, testimony under oath that multiple colleges reported FWK's shopping Demas around-- shenanigans. We have a transfer "for safety of the kid," leaving the younger siblings behind-- odd. We have incompatible stories about where he actually moved and with whom he lived-- shenanigans. Multiple people are intervening in where this teenager lives, where he goes to HS, and where he will likely go to college for reasons that trace back to his FB talent but which are being represented as anything but. Those people have business relationships among each other and with aTm. A variegated patchwork of aggy boosters and self-interest-seekers that lacks true leadership or a master plan is no more honest or morally acceptable merely because of its disorganization or incompetence.

I have a difficult time getting too worked up about all of this. Granted, it doesn't pass the smell test but just about anything involving private trainers is going to have that element to it. I think this is just the world we live in.

The contradictions, outright lies, and now Mrs. Dunn's over-the-top emotional appeal raise a stink about this sequence of events. There's something there, but I don't know exactly what.

Surly runs with it out of the habit of wearing something out, having fun at the expense of the Aggies, and to pursue the possible scandal. It's kind of perfect.

Ultimately, we may find that the Aggies have done something stupid and obvious like using FedEx to send money back in the 80s. It also may be a play by the Dunns to get their boy better exposure. People looking at Demas' senior tape will have to look at the QB who throws to him. It could also be a way to sequester Demas while paying him and keeping him warm for aggy.

It's definitely worth looking into. It may come out that the Dunns are just generous and Demas is a choir boy. They should want that story to come out if it's true.

This situation is no different and aggie asked for it. FWK did a deal. He coordinated it through Hamm and Karen Johnson with ATM. When Texas and others got in Demas’ ear through legitimate routes after he committed, he attempted to then decommit. Then a big round-up phone call happens and Demas gets religion. From there, he moves schools and never seriously reconsiders anyone. Go take a fucking look back at that last fall. Take a look at the plain facts pointed out here. This is how corruption works in NCAA recruiting.

Schools get away with it usually because they’re not this stupid and because they rely on the naĂŻvetĂ© and incredulity of the fanbases as well. A guy like Baizer showing up to tell everyone how wrong everyone else is because he occasionally talks to recruits and somehow gets paid for it only adds, unwittingly, to the obfuscation.

"They started it" is a very childish way to go about things but in this case, that's exactly what happened. They poked the hornet's nest with their public belly-aching about the UIL/UT connection denying their star recruit to bend the rules to where he could play his senior year of HS football. Let's be honest -- it didn't take a whole lot of work to put this puzzle together.

A reporter digging into Crazy Karen specifically seems more worthwhile.   She's way too fucking stupid to cover her tracks well.  And it's pretty damn obvious what her role is.  It doesn't remotely pass the smell test that she's just a "Jimbo fan".   She's a big fucking liability.  I can't believe Jimbo hasn't cut her off.

there's a shitton of convenient coincidences for all of this to be nothing.  what triggered all of this speculation is the north forest coach stating that fwk was shopping demas and dunn.  that came during a uil testimony.  if the coach is willing to go on record, then he better have a good claim.  that led to the revelation that fwk works out on property owned by the dunns.  add an aggy headcoach with ties to aggy via dauther's previous employment trying to get demas onto his team which also happens to have dunn as a qb, and an aggy recruiting "reporter" pimping qb dunn, then yeah the speculation and questions are warranted.

anyone who says otherwise has an agenda.

I can think of some potential downside: (1) it's not like we aren't recruiting / signing FWK's players, too. How far down the rabbit hole do we really want this to go? 2) it is possible that we come off as pathetic and paranoid as the aggies whining about the UIL.

The part about aggie asking for it, I completely agree with. If they are so brazen and stupid to be publicly running this through a failed pool boy and a dementia-riddled cuck-loving hag, neither of whom has enough sense to keep this shit off social media, then they really deserve it. The whole thing is so preposterous on its surface that it should be dismissed out of hand. But then again, this is aggy we are talking about. They are literally the only school that could fuck this up so badly.

Pretty much this.  The general sentiment on the recruiting thread leading up to Demas' eligibility hearing was that the kid, who is an aggy lock, should be able to try better his life if he could, but that it sure would be funny to see him get denied simply to add another log to the aggy misery fire.  And then after he got denied, ags stupidly pointed the finger at Texas and cried conspiracy with no factual support.  That shot across the bow is all it really took for some intrepid Surlyites to start digging and finding interesting info such as the Dunns' ownership of property where FWK plies his trade, the Flanigan family connections with A&M, and the educational backgrounds of the people who made the decision to deny Demas (only one person on the board with any Texas background, and we don't even know if he was one of the six who voted).  Ags brought this on themselves.  Fuck them.

Well, Mrs. Dunn certainly isn't telling the truth. How was Demas getting to and from school last year? Tomball to North Forest is a 40mi drive each way through north Houston traffic.

I also can’t find any info or links online about Demas losing a younger sibling to murder. Figure that would come up somewhere given Demas’ status and the emotional story that would be.

I thought about looking into that, too, but decided I didn't really want to find out it was true (terrible murder of a child) or find out it was false (Mrs. Dunn tells a terrible lie for self-interest).

No, he's just a reporter who doesn't want Texas fans pissing off Whitfield or spreading rumors that he isn't sure are true. The problem is that Texas fans are simply spreading facts. If the problem is that anyone with an IQ over room temperature infers that there's wrongdoing somewhere in this mess simply from reading those facts then that's not really the fault of the people posting the factual information.

Was the story about the younger brother that he was murdered? Or that he was actually close to violence personally such that he either witnessed a murder or lost a friend?

The high school coach didn't say Demas was being shopped for money - he said Demas and Dunn were being shopped as a tandem take for certain schools.

Yeah, as of now this isn't some smoking gun of all the dirty shit that's going on. But there are definitely issues worthy of looking into.

    1. Demas testifies before the UIL State Executive Committee that he has only been at the Dunns' a couple of nights, maybe a few. Mrs. Dunn later posts on Facebook that he's been with them for a year. So immediately we have reason to believe that false testimony was given to the committee in an attempt to secure his eligibility. Nothing to worry about at the NCAA level yet.
    2. A public employee testifies before the same committee that he was told by active NCAA coaches that a private trainer, Whitfield, was "shopping" Dunn and Demas around. Definitely something to worry about at the NCAA level.
    3. Whitfield's business is located on land owned by the Dunns' company Dunnco/Dunn Development Corporation/whatever subsidiary it's officially owned by, the family whose wife/mother publicly stated that Demas has been living with them for a year.
    4. The Dunns claim that it was all about rescuing a good kid from a nightmarish situation in North Forest where drugs and murders are commonplace. In fact, Demas lost a younger sibling to a murder. Oh, by the way, Demas's still living younger siblings were left back there in the horror movie hellscape when he moved to their 5,800+ square foot home on 1.2 acres in Tomball. These facts, attested to by Mrs. Dunn, seem to describe some questionable behavior at worst, and self-aggrandizing emoting on social media at best.
    5. A fan website that is in a business relationship with an NCAA institution, and in fact is basically a recruiting arm of the University run by boosters, spent time attempting to improve the profile of the Dunns' son in hopes of getting him an NCAA scholarship.

Occam's Razor may be able to tell us a lot of things from there, but at a minimum we have false testimony to the UIL (don't really care because they got the decision correct as though they knew it was false, plus it's not a big national story), testimony that a prospect is being shopped in a package to NCAA universities (possible big story if it's researched further, also potentially a crime committed by the trainer under Texas law), and a very scuzzy at best seeming relationship between the parents of a 3-star mid-range prospect, a private trainer, and an NCAA institution.

You and the rest of you should be ashamed of yourselves for spouting this nonsense. These conspiracy theories of false testimony, public record, a website and its relationship with aggy are jus... sorry, couldn't continue with a straight face.
