The Guitar Pron Thread

Honestly, not sure. I just got back into guitar in the past year, so before that I guess I lacked the interest to venture out of the football/recruiting threads. But man, ever since I got the Strat I’ve been in it like never before. Taking lessons again too. Loving it!

NGD.
USA Jazz to go along with my squier Jazz. USA is used and has some Bartolinis in them. I bought some jazz custom 60’s but bartolinis sound pretty good.

Thoughts?

My P bass has bartolinis in it. The original pups came in the case. I’ve no reason to change them back.

Happy ngd!

Mark today as the day my big orange Grestsch seized the thrown from my Les Paul.

That guitar into the new Marshall Origin 50 was the final setting on the sound we've been dialing in for a year now. The Grestch has always sounded great, and is a beast to manage; plus the O50 gave us our sound at a level the sound guy could mix well.

Malcolm would salute us!ac967249c4372d4fedbcf8f4a63c46af.jpg

Edit - I have my Dad's original '58 Gretsch Anniversary that I restored to playable condition, but I think full circle will be when I can get it to the point where it grabs this mantle.

Guy I work with wants to sell his barely played Gibson 335 to finance an acoustic. Told me he doesn't have time to find a buyer and is bringing it to me to sell it for him and will give me a cut.

Cue to six months later: "Man, I'm still looking. Doesn't seem to be much of a market out there."

That looks great. I think the custom 60's may give you a bit fatter punch if that is what you are looking for.

First dog hollers.

What’s at the top of your current wish list?

Post pics or it doesn’t count.

I am talking to the owner of that '72 ES-325 that I posted pics of recently, but the bastard went to Hawaii for a couple weeks.  Since I'm kind of moving more digital, I'm also intrigued about a Variax to be a decent swiss army knife for someone who has several holes in his collection.

This arrived today. G&L’s new short scale bass. Had been on the fence, but I hear a price increase is coming during NAMM this week. Just pulled it out of the box, but initial impressions are favorable. f995c0c49a1645cb34ba1e7efd203d52.jpg

That's what I'm talking about :)

I made a resolution to spend 2020 really sharpening up my guitar skills. Been playing for 20 years or so and I guess most casual listeners would think I'm a good guitar player, but I'm bad about only learning stuff only halfway correct before getting bored/distracted and just playing random bullshit. Been making a concerted effort to pick a song/solo to learn all the way through and keep working away at it until I'd at least be comfortable playing it in front of other guitar players.

Also trying to nail down some more advanced shred techniques. I "learned" how to tap probably 15 years ago, but was never any good at until probably the last month or so. Also, beginning the extremely frustrating process of figuring out how the fuck to sweep pick. I'm about 10% of the way there so far!

Love the color and the racing stripe.  That is really beautiful.  Don't think I've ever seen a G&L bass.   Congratulations.

Interesting. Made in USA with a proper Gibson headstock shape.

Will be interesting to see where they price those.

I may just be on a green kick right now, but the Slash Anaconda Burst Les Paul looks nice. I usually hate the artist inspired guitars/bass, but this one looks good. Thankfully the price puts it beyond my interest level.

Man, I don’t know if this is targeted at my youth heartstrings or what. I’m not a shredder and there’s really nothing I could actually use this for but wall art. But like the similar offering from Charvel last year, I kinda want it. Is there really a demand for these? Or is someone at Fender just feeling nostalgic?

Not a top list, but if I had the money laying around.

Ok here's the deal - I'm going to Istanbul in April, mostly to help an offsite devops team plan a quarters worth of cloud system migrations BUT Shawn I will send you photos of the Hagia Sophia if you send me a Martin D-18.

Conversely if you still have your old badge we can forge my name and I'll start dropping hints about how I'm growing a beard.

It speaks to me too. I’d love to have a small collection of 80s metal guitars.
