That’s a 1993 Fender “Squier Series” Tele made at the Cort plant in South Korea. Korean Squiers were already being made by the late 80s I believe. But for a brief period before the Mexico plant was built in Ensenada, Fender branded some of their Korean guitars like this one with an actual Fender logo.

Some people consider them Fenders, some people consider them Squiers. They used cheaper parts (bodies, pots, tuners, etc) than a “real” Fender, but they have a following and some guys love them. I’m not surprised this one is a player.

The ones that have the silver Fender logo and a serial number starting with CN usually have full width plywood bodies.  Usually black or white finish. Don’t see many in that color blue. The stock pickups in them should be cheap ceramics. Some guys “upgrade” them, others swear by them.

Some guitars are just greater than the sum of their parts.

My guitar teacher when I was a kid had a similarly colored (maybe a tad darker with more of a glitter/metallic element) Squier Series Fender strat with lace sensors (no idea if they were original) that he played during lessons. I think I remember him talking a bit about how those early Squiers were really good.

I didn't realize that Randall came from the Fender camp.  I've had a Randall amp before and it was pretty solid.

I’d like to hear more about this partscaster Strat.

Partscasters, by their nature, are assembled according to the builder’s taste. And my preferences on Fenders are pretty specific so I rarely see a partscaster that I covet.

That being said, I’ve considered going the partscaster route as I think about a Strat.

You won’t regret it. Nothing better than exactly what you want.

Nice to see the Squire love on the last page. This is my Made in Korea Squire II Stratocaster purchased as an undergrad from Ray Hennigs Heart of Texas Music. I love it. I keep thinking that since I have more money now I’d like to get a US made Strat but this one plays so nice it’s hard to justify. Bone stock, I’d never thought about upgrading it but That gold pick guard on noharleyyet post has me thinking.

I just replaced the output jack in this Made in Korea Squire Telecaster for a friend, only to find that it sounds better than my American Deluxe with N3's. Bright and punchy like a Tele should sound. Now I'm gonna have to find a pickup upgrade for mine.

Is the output jack replacement easy for a noob? I have a 2016 Telecaster that has the old style output jack. It sucks and the “guts” won’t stay put due to the wood wearing down on the inside. I assume the new ones screw into the wood, but I have no idea where to start. The local shops have been booked around here. I’d like to order the parts online and replace it myself. Any tips?

Check out the Electrosocket replacement jack mounts. These are the upgrade to the original Fender design. These screw into the body instead of being held in place with a retainer clip.

That is a nice looking Squier II. I’ve owned a couple of these, one made in Korea and one made in India.

Squier II bodies and pickguards are shaped slightly different than a standard Strat, in particular on the lower horn. And the screw holes are not the same. If you replace the pickguard with a standard Strat pickguard, you’ll need to drill a few new holes in the body and probably need to reshape the pickguard with a file to make it match the profile of your guitar. And the stock pickups might not fit exactly right in the pickguard. It can be done with some finessing. The Korean Squier II’s are closer to a standard Strat than the Indian version.

Gold pickguards are available in anodized aluminum or plastic. The aluminum guards look great, but they are pricey and will be harder to reshape than a plastic one.

Not trying to discourage you from modifying your guitar. Just letting you know what to expect if you do.

depending on the hole size, you could a toothpick or matchstick down to size and shove it in there before putting the screws back in (if the issue is stripped wood not holding screws).

I had to do a similar thing with South Austin's mom.  It involved inserting a 12 pound ham, and then removing the bone.

I used the exact part Foggy linked above. Its a 10 minute project and $8 part if you have basic soldering skills.

I doubt I can afford anything from this collection, but i love this quote. He's not wrong.

Hey I have a question, the other night in the middle of a set I started a new song and I had to stop about 30 sec in because the low e was out of whack. Checked it with the tuner and it was tuned down to C#! The previous song was fine and I didn’t touch that tuning key. Anyone ever had this happen before? Never happened to me in 41 years of playing that I recall. I’m wondering if the string did some kind of weird stretching or something. Acoustic btw.

Tuner slipped, maybe?

I bought an American Tele with N3s a couple of years ago and instantly replaced them with some real telepickups, an old Van Zandt I had stashed away and a Pure vintage 64 neck. N3s just don't sound like a Tele, or anything I really want to play.

More pr0n. I picked this up in a trade a few days ago. It’s a 2018 Classic 60th anniversary model. MIM. Limited edition with nitro finish and matching headstock. Still has the plastic on the pickguard. Gonna play it for a while, see how I like it.

I really like that. What’s the verdict?
