The Batman actors were much more established, if not major stars, when they got their roles.  The 007 actors became mega-famous after being chosen to play 007.

Accurate statement regarding batman, but how does a successful history make you worse of an actor?

Sean Connery and Daniel Craig could fit the discussion on Bond being a jumping point, but the rest of the bunch is dog shit outside of their role as 007.

Connery for sure made his bones as 007. Roger Moore become more famous for his 007 roles, but didn't do jack other than 007.  Lazenby nyet. Dalton, haven't heard much from him since.  Brosnan, he's done some decent stuff, but was already pretty established.  I didn't know much about Craig before 007.

Layer cake was a great flick that Craig did early that pretty much got him the 007 role.

Dalton portrayed Bond at a time when movie-goers wanted over the top action and violence. Think Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

You know what, here's the thing about Die Hard 4. Die Hard one, the original, John McClane was just this normal guy. You know, he's just a normal New York City cop, who gets his feet cut, and gets beat up. But he's an everyday guy. In Die Hard 4, he is jumping a motorcycle into a helicopter. In air. You know? He's invincible. It just sort of lost what Die Hard was. It's not Terminator.

Roger Moore was already a major star. He had starring roles in 2 network shows (Maverick, The Saint) and a ton of character roles before Bond came along. His Bond films were hamstrung with bad scripts and bad producers. His performances in The Wild Geese, ffolkes and The Sea Wolves give you an idea of how good he could have been with a more blunt instrument Craig type script.

Not saying it was a launching point for them.  In many cases, they didn't do much afterwards.  Just that they weren't super famous before being cast.  Most of general public could not tell you who they were until they were "the new James Bond."  But once they became James Bond, they became mega famous.

Not the case with Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale, Affleck, etc.  Pattison is probably the least famous Batman cast in years, and I may be selling him short because I wasn't into Twilight.
