Tell me about South Carolina

I have to be there in early august for an event (Columbia).  I can go a few days early.  Should I?  Where should I go/what should I do/where should I eat?  .  I'm assuming it's hotter than hell with humidity mixed in so maybe it's a shitty idea.

Depends if you are a beach or mountain guy.  If Beach head for Charleston and the beaches near there.  If a mountain guy - make the relatively short drive to western NC and hike, fly fish and hit up breweries - its only a 2.5 hour drive to Asheville.

2.5 hours the other way is Savannah.  Great eats, architecture, to go cups, and history worth the drive into Georgia.

South Carolina message board fan is despondent after loss to Clemson, another poster calls him out, internet tough guy posturing follows, with plans to settle it at the parking lot of a local BBQ joint. Hilarity ensues:
