Quid pro quo?

Benefiting who?

Is Jimbo recruiting Simpson to get his son a scholarship somewhere, or is UT-Martin's coach recruiting Fisher's son to get Ty Simpson an offer at a big school?

Regardless, none of this will matter unless Jimbo can fix his late-era Mack o-line problems. And history suggests that this will never happen.

Hamm Lite with an article on who could be the first aggy 2022 commit --- this should be fun to revisit

Kam Dewberry - Braden Davis - PJ Williams - Denver Harris - Bobby Taylor jr - Jaylon Guilbeau

full article ::

Texas A&M usually has quite a few unofficial visitors in the spring and the summer. It has been a strategy that Jimbo Fisher has used since arriving in Aggieland.

Whether getting them to campus for spring practice, summer camp or just a weekend trip, the Aggies have hosted a number of top players from both in and outside the Lone Star State the past two recruiting classes.

Unfortunately for A&M, there are currently no visits allowed due to NCAA rules and it is unknown when they will be reinstated. That has affected the 2021 class with A&M only having three commits at the moment, though all are four-stars.

The Aggies will undoubtedly add some other highly-ranked prospects at some point likely not too far away, but they are also looking forward to the next class, too.

Currently, there are 19 players in the entire country from the class of 2022 that are already committed. But, that number usually goes up quite a bit beginning around the summer after the sophomore year.

A&M does not currently have any pledges for the class just yet, but there are some candidates as to who could be the first.

ATASCOCITA OT KAM DEWBERRY

Already a two-year varsity starter and a two-time all-district selection, offensive tackle Kam Dewberry is following in the footsteps of his former five-star teammate Kenyon Green. The Aggies were able to land Green and hope to be able to do so with Dewberry as well.

A&M was one of the first schools to offer the 6-foot-4, 300-pound standout when he was a freshman. He looks up to Green and has been to campus quite a few times. A&M is one of his top schools, but there are a ton of programs after him. The Aggies are in a good spot, though, and are recruiting him very heavily. Dewberry may wait longer than some of his peers to decide, but he's still a potential first pledge for A&M if he decides to shut things down early.

MIDDLETOWN, DEL. QB BRADEN DAVIS

Fisher is very particular when it comes to choosing which quarterback to take in his classes, so there is no guarantee that he will settle on four-star Braden Davis as his ultimate target. However, should he decide to do so, the 6-foot-4.5, 196-pound sophomore has very serious interest in the Aggies.

Davis made his way to campus last summer and earned an offer while in town. It was actually Davis' first offer. Since then, though, he has picked up a number of others. That includes from Tennessee, where his father Antone was a standout offensive lineman. But, Davis continues to list A&M as one of his top schools and even returned to College Station for a weekend visit in early February. If there is camp at some point this summer, he will be back for yet another time. It was right after camp last summer that A&M picked up its quarterback commit in the class of 2021, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities to see it happen again this coming summer.

DICKINSON OT PJ WILLIAMS

A&M has done well at Dickinson High School recently and four-star offensive tackle PJ Williams is one of two big targets at the school for A&M in the 2022 class. Ranked as the No. 108 overall prospect in the early Top247, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Williams has seen quite a few new offers recently. However, the Aggies were his third overall offer.

Williams knows current A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer, who also hails from Dickinson, quite well. Wydermyer has talked up A&M to him and now Williams plans to make his way to College Station when visits are allowed again. This past season was Williams' first to play on the offensive line after moving over from defensive end, and the Aggies were one of the first to notice his potential. He could be a player that falls in love on his first visit. Williams' teammate, four-star tight end Donovan Green, also has a lot of interest in A&M but will likely wait longer to make a decision.

NORTH SHORE CB DENVER HARRIS

To be honest, five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris will probably be a player that waits until close to Signing Day of his senior year to make a decision. He is incredibly heavily-recruited and, with the exception of the class of 2021, North Shore prospects usually do not make early commitments.

Still, Harris has A&M among his top schools. He camped this past summer and has been back a couple times since. He has a teammate in national top-100 wide receiver Shadrach Banks committed to the Aggies and Banks is doing his share of recruiting. A&M needs to get Harris back on campus to spend time with new defensive backs coach TJ Rushing but the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defender is already a fan of the Maroon and White.

KATY CB BOBBY TAYLOR

Katy four-star cornerback Bobby Taylor, whose father Bobby played at Notre Dame and in the NFL, made no secret that he really wanted an A&M offer. It was the one that he constantly mentioned in updates. Whenever he picked one up from former cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defender came close to making a very early decision.

When Linguist left for the NFL, though, Taylor took a step back. He had already decided to wait a little longer to make a commitment but now felt he needed to get to know Rushing better and build a relationship. Taylor really likes both the school and program, though, so if he and Rushing form that relationship and the new coach continues to push for him, Taylor is as good a bet as any to be that first pledge in the class.

PORT ARTHUR MEMORIAL CB JAYLON GUILBEAU

Port Arthur Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau is yet another four-star prospect that received his first offer from A&M. Though he did not play on varsity as a freshman, the 6-foot, 175-pound defender was offered by the Aggies last summer. He said even before receiver the offer that A&M was his top school.

Still, the Aggies have struggled a bit to recruit the Golden Triangle recently and wherever Guilbeau's teammate, class of 2021 four-star defensive end Jordon Thomas, ends up could have a leg up with him. Thomas has a final two of A&M and Texas and those two schools, along with LSU, are the top ones for Guilbeau at the moment. If Thomas ends up choosing the Maroon and White, it would not be shocking to see his cornerback teammate do so as well.

Taylor or that Dickinson OL seem reasonable. Otherwise it's big-time wishcasting.

Taking a QB from Delaware would be pretty fucking funny.

Between this article, and the Liucci rants over Landon Jackson earlier, I have to point out the absurdity of how much aTm is "hurting" because of the coronavirus. Liucci went out of his way to paint some picture that aTm's strategy of getting kids on camps in the spring and summer has been disproportionately damaging to aTm versus other schools. Apparently Jimbo fisher is the only coach to really utilize spring and summer unofficial visits for recruiting purposes. And then along comes Perroni, basically saying the same fucking thing about how poor aTm just can't get any kids on campus! Fucking laughable. I mean, seriously, that is one of the dumbest things ever to come out of a 9.95er's mouth, and both of these fucksticks did it in a matter of hours.

By the way, what in god's name makes these fucks think they're getting anyone out of Port Arthur Memorial? They couldn't even land Kary Vincent Jr. Now they think they're pulling Jordan Thomas and this CB in consecutive classes? Ok boys.

This is so odd to me that no one has called them out for this. Jordon Thomas is so publicly pro-Texas that his top 2 is nearly laughable. And to my knowledge, no poster has made them defend their optimism.

I mean, has this ever happened in the history of an aTm site? What needs to be defended when the vast majority agree with it? I mean, who wouldn't go to Texas aTm, the clearly superior school to every other school?

Damn, this is too true. My parents attended high school in a small, country suburb of Rochester. Tons of people there are straight-up crazy.

Thank God they both decided to go to UT for grad school and I got to grow up in Austin.

Brockport or Ontario/Walworth are terrific parallels to Hamburg. The main difference is Hamburg also houses a bunch of degenerate Italian gamblers which comprise the majority of "Bills Mafia".

He talks to Texas a lot, too, but for whatever reason, other recruits don't seem to see him there.

So aggy recruits that aren't getting any interest from and have no contact with Texas don't see him at Texas. Curious.

-Off the top of my head, I think the Aggies are in pretty good shape with Bobby Taylor and Malick Sylla but OU is a thorn in the side there is should not be counted out.

oh Hamm Lite. so cute. so predictable. Let's look at a quote from Sylla that Hamm Lite himself got from an interview posted just yesterday ::

Quote

"LSU, A&M, Clemson, FSU, Texas - there are a few I'm talking to a lot," Sylla said.

I guess the Texas interest is real and that the easiest way to soften that blow is to grease the skids with OU. that was a Hamm staple.

OT PJ Williams update from aggy 247 ::

Dickinson has become one of the top Houston-area programs in recent years and the Gator program has started producing quite a bit of talent as well. That is especially evident in the class of 2022.

Dickinson is home to the nation's top-ranked tight end in Donovan Green but also has a four-star offensive tackle in PJ Williams. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound rising junior played the position for the first time this past season and took to it naturally enough to already hold 15 early offers.

"A lot of stuff is still the same, since we can't take visits yet," Williams said of the recruiting process on Thursday evening. "It's still just talking to coaches, getting to know them and everything like that. I really want to get out to some places, but I don't know if that will be allowed anytime soon."

After having added some big offers recently, Williams could be on the verge of one from a Big 10 power.

"I think Ohio State could be close (to offering)," he said. "I've been talking with coach Kennedy Cook and he's setting up a call for me with the other coaches, too. They say they like my film a lot and that I'm a guy that could be offered. I'm looking forward to talking to the other coaches and seeing what that is all about."

One of Williams' first offers came from Texas A&M, which has signed a pair of players from Dickinson in recent years.

"Texas A&M, I talk to them a lot," he said. "I actually just talked to coach (Darrell) Dickey this morning. He is going to get me set up with a Zoom call where I can see the campus and things like that and and then talk to the whole coaching staff as well. They really want me to know how much they want me and they want me to see what all Texas A&M is like."

Williams has been to College Station but this virtual visit will be a chance for him to experience more of Aggieland than he has previously.

"I've been there once before. I had gone with Donovan to a game this past year," Williams said. "But I wasn't really a recruit then, so I didn't get to see too much. I want to see all the facilities and the campus and stuff like that. I'm going to do it in person at some point, but I'll also get to see a lot of that when coach Dickey sets up the Zoom call."

In addition to the A&M one, Williams is supposed to take virtual visits to a couple other SEC programs as well.

"I think I'm supposed to have the same type of call with a couple other schools, too," he said. "LSU and Auburn, they want to show me around and everything. It's like what I would do on a visit but, since we can't take visits, they sort of bring everything to me."

Williams' offer list is starting to catch up to that of Green's and the two have talked about the possibility of playing together in college.

"We have to make our own decisions but we definitely talk about it a lot," Williams said. "We've been playing together ever since pee wee football. We would definitely love to end up at the same school and keep playing together."

With it still being early in the process, though, Williams is not ready to name a top group of schools at this point.

"I really just have everybody tied at the top right now," he said. "It's all come so fast and I want to give everybody a chance. I'm open to everyone. I know, at some point, I'll have to narrow things down to the ones I really like but I'm not ready to do that yet."

Despite it being his first time to play on the offensive line, Williams was a first-team all-district selection as a sophomore.[/spolier]

Ohio State has already made 9 OT offers for 2022, 3 of them in Texas (Dewberry, Early, and Williams) and already have a commitment from Tshabola and I'd be fucking FLOORED if they didn't also add in-state OT Blake Miller as well, and it sounds like they may steal Tanona away from Notre Dame which would seal up 3 OTs in that 2022 class. PJ Williams is completely dissimilar to any of their other offers via build/frame, but yeah... it's not at all about Donovan Green.

Brian Perroni: Looking at Texas A&M's top targets by position for 2022 class

Quote

Texas A&M is still in the middle of trying to fill out the class of 2021 with 10 commitments, plus two from the class of 2020 that will carry over toward the 25-man limit. However, the coaches are also balancing two classes at once by also heavily pursuing a number of prospects in the class of 2022. The fact that there were no summer camps this year set things back a bit as there are always offers that go out at that point as well as out-of-state prospects that show their serious interest in the Aggies and vice versa.

Here is a look at the current ‘Top Targets’ at each position for Texas A&M. It is definitely not an exhaustive list but these are the players that have emerged so far as priority targets for the Aggies and who have shown interest back. The list is currently mostly in-state prospects as, during Jimbo Fisher’s time in Aggieland, the true out-of-state top targets usually do not start becoming clear for a little while longer.

QUARTERBACK

Jimbo Fisher is always very particular when it comes to quarterback. Both he and Darrell Dickey like to see them throw in person in a camp setting before determining the exact order. However, that is something that is obviously not going to happen this summer. Though it is unclear when the Aggies would be willing to take a passer in the class, there are three players that are definitely high on the radar and all three camped at A&M last summer. They are Quinn Ewers of Southlake Carroll, Ty Simpson out of Tennessee and Braden Davis from Delaware. There will likely be others that move up and join the list but those three are standing out as priority targets right now.

RUNNING BACK

Texas A&M is likely going to sign two running backs in the 2021 class and they want two in just about every class going forward. Like it has been the past few classes, this could turn into a national search. A pair of in-state prospects in Klein Cain’s Jaydon Blue and Fort Worth Nolan’s Emeka Megwa are up there as big targets now, though Megwa’s biggest upside may be at linebacker. There have been several out-of-state offers extended and some of those could end up as the key players to watch at the position.

WIDE RECEIVER

A&M is going to sign a small wide receiver class in 2021 and there will probably be three or so in the 2022 class. The good news is that it is a very good class both in the state of Texas and nationally. The key in-state targets at the moment are Lewisville’s Armani Winfield, Del Valle’s Caleb Burton and Frisco Liberty’s Evan Stewart. Receivers coach Dameyune Craig has shown that he will zero in on a couple of out-of-state targets as well but, at the moment, it is not clear who they will be.

TIGHT END

This is the easiest position to narrow down who the primary targets are. The Aggies have only extended two total offers so far and one them, Jake Johnson out of Georgia, received his as an eighth grader and has not really been a target of the staff since then. The lone target and A&M’s absolute top player at the position is Donovan Green out of Dickinson. New tight end coach James Coley has made him a priority and the Aggies very much want him in the class.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Though maybe not quite on the same level, the offensive line class in the state for 2022 is almost as loaded as the 2021 class. There are already a number of targets that have emerged as players that Josh Henson would love to have. Atascocita tackle Kam Dewberry and Humble Summer Creek’s Kelvin Banks are major targets. Banks made an early commitment to Oklahoma State but is still very much open and is high on the Aggies. In addition to those two, Dickinson’s PJ Williams and Duncanville’s Jaylen Early are also tackles that A&M is very high on. The same goes with Devon Campbell of Arlington Bowie, who could play either tackle or guard. Though it is going to be hard to keep him away from in-state LSU, A&M is also very high on Will Campbell out of Monroe (La.) Neville.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Elijah Robinson has had to go all over the country for defensive tackles the past few classes and the 2022 class will likely end up the same way. The only in-state prospect to have emerged as a key target is Dallas Skyline’s Bear Alexander. After that, it would seem like the mid-Atlantic region will be one to watch again as Robinson figures out who he will be after the hardest. Shone Washington of New Orleans will also be a top target but holding off both Alabama and LSU will be tough.

At defensive end, A&M has the state’s top two pass rushers as priority targets. They are Ernest Cooper IV or Arlington Martin and Malick Sylla of Katy. On the strong side, Duncanville’s Omari Abor is a big-time target. Enai White out of Philadelphia is a top-10 national prospect and A&M could help its cause with him by signing his teammate, defensive tackle Taleeq Robbins, in the class of 2021.

LINEBACKER

A&M is likely to only sign one true linebacker in the 2021 class, so the position is an important one in 2022. However, just like in recent years, it is very much a down cycle in the state of Texas. New linebackers coach Tyler Santucci is likely to go national once again. The main in-state target to far is Harold Perkins out of Cy Park, but some believe his future is at safety. The Aggies have also offered Martrell Harris from The Woodlands but he had to play subvarsity this past season after transferring in from Conroe Grand Oaks. If his junior film is strong, he could end up on this list as well. Lubbock Cooper’s Kobie McKinzie is an early Oklahoma commitment but, if he opens things at all, he jumps onto the list, too.

CORNERBACK

A&M has been pretty particular about what it is looking for in all of its spots in the secondary and will continue to be so going forward. There are a trio in-state corners that are being strongly pursued right now, though. Denver Harris of North Shore, Bobby Taylor of Katy and Jaylon Guilbeau of Port Arthur Memorial are both players the Aggies like a ton. There have been a few other in-state offers such as Plano John Paul’s Terrance Brooks, Denton Ryan’s Austin Jordan and Clear Lake’s Julian Humphrey, and a number of out-of-state ones, that could end up in this group eventually as well.

SAFETY

Defensive coordinator and safeties coach Mike Elko is even more particular at safety than he is at cornerback. There have been a number of highly-rated guys in recent years that A&M has not pursued. However, the state is absolutely loaded in the 2022 class. A&M will continue to heavily recruit a pair of early LSU commits in Aledo’s Bryan Allen Jr. and Beaumont West Brook’s Bryce Anderson. The latter is still pretty open and plans to take a bunch of trips. Garland’s Chace Biddle was recently offered and has high interest in A&M and vice versa. Argyle Liberty Christian’s Cristian Driver could also be on the list.

ATHLETE

A lot of players that could be classified in this category have made appearances on other parts of this list as A&M has made it clear with most of its offers where the Aggies like them at the next level. The one major athlete target is Brenen Thompson of Spearman. From the Panhandle, he is the fastest prospect in the class and A&M definitely wants speed all over the field. He could play wide receiver or corner in college and A&M simply offered as an ‘athlete.’

Brian Perroni: Looking at Texas A&M's top targets by position for 2022 class

Elijah Robinson throwing in the towel on instate recruiting and just booking his flights to Philly a year and a half before NSD is *chefs kiss*. Even Elko isn't that bored of Texas.

@golfclap brought up a good point about aggy possibly not having traction with the in-state kids from this class so I looked at the early list of recruits and outside of the Katy High kids and the 2 from Dickinson, who else looks likely aggy bound?  And I honestly don't know much about Donovan Green, just assuming because his teammate is probably aggy abound + Wydermyer.

I guess the one to watch would be Kam Dewberry??

I don't see Denver Harris going to them and I haven't heard much about any of the DFW guys with them.

Starting to come to light that the 2022 o-line class is going to be damn near as strong as the '21 group in Texas. Aggies need to absolutely load up in these two hauls and those groups plus the Ogunbiyi/Morris/Bankhead/Chibuzo group will form the nucleus of a high-end SEC unit.

Wykoff/Zuhn/Fatheree is a great start and now you'd love to see the Ags add Bryce Foster plus one of Kimo Makaneole, Savion Byrd or Connor Tollison or even someone who picks up a later offer. Honestly, any two of those four would make for an excellent class but Foster is absolutely the big prize left on the board.

Looking ahead to '22, the guys already offered include Atascocita five-star Kam Dewberry, Summer Creek tackle Kelvin Banks, Frisco OT Cole Hudson, PJ Williams of Dickinson, the Duncanville duo of Cameron Williams and Jaylen Early, Arlington Bowie's Devon Campbell and now Johnny Dickson at guard. The Ags are also already keeping a very close eye on College Station's Cory Hendrix and Neto Umeozulu of Allen. That's ten names and this group hasn't even taken the field as juniors so the list will only grow. All in state.

Like I said, this is the time for the Ags to make their power move in the trenches.

Bobby Taylor mini-update from Hattersly - aka notsofastmyfriend.gif ::

I caught up with Bobby Taylor and will have a full update from him in the morning. One thing I thought was notable and is clearly a point of emphasis for him he is keeping a close eye on what schools do in this cycle at DB to get an idea of how that would affect him depth chart wise.

His relationship with A&M is still really strong and TJ Rushing has been doing a good job on his recruitment. As he mentioned releasing his top schools, he's going to kind of focus in on these 12 schools now, take some visits and provided all goes well look to make a decision sometime next summer maybe.

This will probably be better for both sides, I'm not certain if he's a sure-fire take this early without a lot of time spent at CB

Stop me if you've heard this from an aggy target at CB ::

The 2022 class is loaded between Jaylon Guilbeau, Denver Harris, Austin Jordan, Bobby Taylor and some others there are tons of good options. One thing that is notable, a lot of schools are looking at him as a guy that can move around a little bit and play both safety and corner.

I'm just gonna add this previous aggy247 quote to this stream about Taylor

Quote

Taylor is the best bet to be the first commit and would probably do so soon if it weren’t for people close to him wanting him to slow down a bit just to make sure he is 100-percent set on his decision. It is likely only a matter of time with him, though.

The last few years were definitely not the time to make their power moves in the trenches. That's why you want a guy like Jimbo who knows how to win a national championship. Jimbo Fisher knows when not to make power moves to recruit elite linemen and when the time is right to recruit elite linemen. This staff is uhhhhh-mazing in their ability to restrain themselves from making power moves at the wrong time.

Be patient and trust Jimbo Fisher. Blow him if you get the chance.
