He's class of 2022 with a long recruitment in front of him. I wouldn't get too caught up with what he's tweeting right now whether it's perceived as good or bad.

But, thank you for bringing this to the board, I know I personally wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Part of why TexAgs is so great is because of the discussion and content people bring.

Sounds like it had to do with him seeing that the Ags might take five DBs this year. IMO, that was a knee-jerk reaction on social media and Jimbo, Elko and the Aggie staff can explain that one fairly easily. First off, Taylor is an elite prospect who need not worry about stuff like that. Players play, and they can point to DeMarvin last year on a loaded defensive front complete with NFL prospects, high-level recruits and returning starters as an example. Also, with the schools he's going to be courted by, there are going to be numbers and high-end signees/returning starters at pretty much all of them. Finally, part of the reason the Aggies are having to sign four or five this year is because of the dire need, particularly at corner.

Again, easy to show Bobby exactly what the depth chart looks like compared to the other schools he's considering, even including this year's signees if the number turns out to be five. I'd imagine those other schools will all ink at least four in the secondary and/or have recruited higher numbers than the Ags over the past two years, particularly at corner.

The excitable OU mods are confident: "However, without giving any details, Texas A&M appears to be out at this time. The Aggies will have some ground to cover if they want to make amends. Taylor will now explore other options.

Taylor tells me himself that Oklahoma will be atop his new list."

Not buying that one at all.

He really seems to be serious. Bet this is a numbers issue. Please don't be another Zach Evans type saga.... I don't think I can handle more drama. He can't seriously be pissed off that we are taking four corner backs this season when it's a big area of need. If anything it should foster a competitive spirit and let him know he'll be playing with some elite talent.

It's absolutely a numbers issue and it sounds like OU planted it into his head once they realized the Ags were out in front for Daniels.

It's called recruiting, and there will be a lot of ebbs and flows for any nationally-recruited player like Taylor who hasn't even entered his junior year yet.

Again, this is one of those very early in the game things that the Aggies can fight and counter. I think things probably need to cool down some but I'd really love to take a deeper dive into OU's DB numbers in the past couple of classes and see what they've got on campus at corner or safety (which is what I've heard Grinch is actually looking at him to play).

If you've been following anything the TexAgs Recruiting Team has said over the past year or so, you know that the 2022 crop in Texas is one of the deepest and most talent-laden classes in recent memory. We're talking the nation's No. 1 overall prospect, an uncharacteristically deep corps of linebackers, multiple national top-100 candidates at virtually every position and no fewer than ten legitimate five-star candidates. Here's my first extended foray into the impossible task of ranking the state's top juniors-to-be.

Texas Top 22 in 2022

1. QB Quinn Ewers‍ - Southlake Carroll
The nation's No. 1 signal-caller and the top-overall prospect is up there with the best I've seen the Lone Star State produce, which is saying a mouthful. Wherever he ends up, Ewers has the look of a guy who could push a program over the top or lead an established power to a championship. He is a Peyton Manning-type prospect.

2. CB Denver Harris‍ - North Shore
He's right there with recent five-star DBs Jaylon Jones, Jeffrey Okudah and Jamal Adams. As good of a pure cover corner as I've seen in the state in at least several years. Absolutely gifted athletically.

3. OT Kameron Dewberry‍ - Atascocita
Like Tommy Brockermeyer‍ this year, Dewberry is just a can't miss OL prospect. He is cut from the same mold A&M fans saw in Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews. Just an incredibly polished and technical blocker who also happens to be exceptionally strong and athletic while also possessing a nasty streak. Dewberry is the total package.

4. DE Malick Sylla‍ - Katy
This kid screams upside. He's good now but has a chance to be 'top-five NFL draft pick' type great. Malick has insane length and athleticism plus cat-like quickness and gets off with ridiculous closing speed. Sylia has a chance to be an elite college edge-rusher, which is why he'll rate among the most coveted '22s in America.

TexAgs

Perkins ranks as Liucci’s top LB in a year with no shortage of talent at the position.

5. LB Harold Perkins‍ - Cy-Parks
In an uncharacteristically loaded year at linebacker, the Houston-area defender stands out. Perkins moves like a safety and strikes and closes like an All-SEC linebacker. He is an every-down type who Howell has compared him to Marcel Brooks, and that's a good comp. There's also some Derrick Johnson in there, as well. He is a legit five-star candidate.

6. WR Caleb Burton‍ - Del Valle
A playmaker deluxe, Burton is pure electricity on a football field. He's got All-American potential, which is why he already holds offers from every relevant program in the country. Jaylen Waddle, Garrett Wilson, Demond Demas and now Caleb Burton; That's your list of the best Texas has produced each of the last four cycles.

7. OT Kelvin Banks‍ - Summer Creek
If I were ranking in-state o-linemen with the highest ceiling today, I think the first two names on my list would be 2021 A&M commit Reuben Fatheree‍ and the '22 tackle from Summer Creek. The one-time Oklahoma State commit is 6-5, 300 pounds and has SEC West bookend written all over him. Banks' summer stock is currently skyrocketing.

8. OG Devon Campbell‍ - Arlington Bowie
Campbell is a big, bruising lineman who is very strong and powerful but also athletic and quick enough to serve as an excellent inside pass protector and pulling guard in the run game. He probably doesn't possess enough length to play tackle, but the 6-3, 265-pounder has the look of a future All-Conference blocker, and he has the early offers to show for it.

9. S Bryan Allen‍ - Aledo
The LSU commit ranks as one of the nation's top safety prospects in 2022 and is worthy of the hype. A breakout star on Aledo's 2019 state championship team, Allen isn't the biggest safety prospect you're going to find, but he's instinctive as hell and stands out as arguably the best player out there every time he steps on the field.

10. TE Donovan Green‍ - Dickinson
By far the top tight end prospect in Texas in '22, Green would probably be the most heavily-recruited tight end this year despite being a junior. The Aggies are hoping the potential five-star — who averaged over 20 yards per catch last fall — follows in the footsteps of fellow Dickinson Gator, Jalen Wydermyer.

TexAgs

Keithian ‘Big Bear’ Alexander currently checks in at 6-4, 330 lbs and could be a force on the D-line at the next level

11. DT Bear Alexander‍ - Denton Ryan
Keithian' Big Bear' Alexander checks in at 6-4, 330 pounds as a high school junior. Alexander has moved around quite a bit and will be playing at his third high school in as many years, but that hasn't kept most of the national powers from finding him. A&M and Elijah Robinson have been 'bear hunting' for a while and have prioritized Keithian early.

12. DE Omari Abor‍ - Duncanville
Even on a stacked Duncanville squad that has reached the 6A state title game two years running, the 6-4, 240-pound defensive end stands out. Abor is a big, physical and twitchy DE on a Panther defense that has arguably been the best in Texas over the past two seasons. Abor is likely a national top-100 defender.

13. OL PJ Williams‍ - Dickinson
A pure tackle who has only recently begun to fill out, Williams has seen offers roll in from A&M, LSU, Auburn, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan and Texas of late. PJ has off-the-charts athleticism, footwork and length on the edge and a 6-4, 255-pound frame that will easily grow to 6-5 and north of 300 pounds. Williams gives the Gator offense two prospects that Jimbo Fisher and Co. covet.

14. WR Evan Stewart‍ - Frisco Heritage
One of the fastest players in the state of Texas has become a national name this spring. Stewart emerged as one of the most electric pass-catchers in the country despite playing on a Heritage squad that was often over-matched, which allowed defenses to focus their game plan around stopping him.

15. DE Ernest Cooper IV‍ - Arlington Martin
Stop me if you've heard this before. The Aggies and Terry Price intend to make a hard run at a defensive end from Arlington Martin. No, RJ Cooper won't carry Myles Garrett's lofty ranking in the upcoming cycle, but make no mistake, the 6-4, 235-pounder already boasts a comparable offer list and is a difference-maker in the trenches. Cooper is a possible in-state top-10 talent and a likely national top-150 name when all is said and done.

16. WR Armani Winfield‍ - Lewisville
One of the first nationally-recruited prospects to emerge from the Class of '22, Winfield brings prototypical size (6-2, 180) and some of the most reliable hands in the state to the table. Armani hauled in nearly 800 yards, 9 TDs and a highlight reel full of acrobatic grabs, which has led to every power player in the country extending an early offer.

17. DB Austin Jordan‍ - Denton Ryan
Some schools will see him as a corner, others will project at safety, but it doesn't matter. Jordan is a playmaker on the back end who blends track speed with imposing size. He possesses an incredible knack for finding the ball as well. The 9-4A Defensive Newcomer of the year's eventual decision could very well come down to Red River Rivals: Texas and Oklahoma.

TexAgs

Blue carried the ball for over 1,600 yards as a sophomore, something the Hurricanes hope he can build on in 2020.

18. RB Jaydon Blue‍ - Klein Cain
Blue is a name that could rise significantly if there's football in Texas this fall. Why? Because most — including most of the SEC and power programs from coast to coast — expect the 5-10, 205-pound back to build on a 1,600-yard sophomore season. One of the nation's top backs, many believe Blue is a top 5-10 runner in the country.

19. S Bryce Anderson‍ - Beaumont Westbrook
The Golden Triangle safety chose Ed Orgeron and LSU early. However, A&M doesn't plan to back off, as Anderson is one of the most talented defenders in a loaded Texas class of 2022. Outside of not being the biggest safety you'll find, Bryce checks every other box in terms of coverage skills, instincts, physicality and athleticism. Anderson is a two-way threat under center and also brings true meaning to that whole' quarterback of the secondary' thing.

20. CB Terrance Brooks‍ - John Paul II
The son of Wrecking Crew legend Chet Brooks, Terrance is ranked higher here, but the services will catch up and college coaches are already wise, with the 6-0, 185-pounder picking up offers from the likes of A&M, LSU, Florida, Texas and OU. This kid can flat out cover and might be the second-best pure corner prospect in the state behind Denver Harris.

21. CB Bobby Taylor‍ - Katy
Closing in on 6-2, the 185-pound corner's stock has soared this off-season. He's not unlike Katy teammate Malick Sylia in that his projectability is off-the-charts. The son of longtime NFL corner Bobby Taylor, the fast-rising cover man cut his teeth for a loaded Tigers' D last year but will only get better with experience.

22. LB Martrell Harris‍ - The Woodlands
Another fast and athletic linebacker who will absolutely strike you, Harris already holds offers from A&M and Texas despite having to play JV last season as a sophomore due to transfer rules. Mark this one down: His current rating with the national services — both in state and countrywide — are laughably out of whack.

Hattersly on Taylor ::

Quote

I just got off the phone with Bobby Taylor, who had a really good conversation with multiple members of the A&M staff yesterday.

The staff cleared up a lot of confusion for him and reiterated he is an important piece to the 2022 class because of his versatility and ability to play multiple positions. As of right now, A&M is right back in the mix for him along with Oklahoma.

This is going to be a fluid recruitment the rest of the way, but he got a lot of clarity out of the conversation moving forward.

Will have a full update shortly.

Oof - the full Bobby Taylor report ::

Quote

Since receiving an offer last fall, four-star cornerback Bobby Taylor has been among the key priorities for the A&M staff in the class of 2022. The Katy defensive back got some assurance of that this week during a call with analyst Ishmael Aristide after some brief concerns about the number of defensive backs the Aggies could look to take in this current class.

“[Aristide] just told me they have to take a certain amount of defensive backs every year because of everything they play with nickel and dime for the defense, so they put five to six defensive backs on the field at a time,” Taylor told GigEm247 on Wednesday. “They had to take a certain amount so that way they can be set for the season. He just gave me a whole bunch of reassurance if I were to commit and come there, I could get on the field right away because I'm just so versatile that I can play nearly every position in each package.”

In addition to Aristide, he also spoke at different times on the FaceTime call with defensive coordinator Mike Elko, defensive line coach Elijah Robinson, linebackers coach Tyler Santucci and defensive backs coach TJ Rushing who all reiterated that message and made sure he knew he could contact the staff moving forward with any questions.

“It felt really good,” Taylor said “Coach Ish, he's like a big brother to me so I talk to him about a lot of stuff as well and then you know me and coach Robinson, we've had an opportunity to talk. Then I talked to coach Elko, he's always cool then I also talked to coach Santucci and they all told me the same thing. So, I mean just hearing that from [five] different coaches right there I mean that lets me know like they're all on the same page about me, so it made me feel good.”

After the call and receiving some assurance from the staff, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back has the Aggies back among his top schools along with Oklahoma, who are set to do a virtual visit with Taylor in the next few weeks.

“I'll probably say as of right now Oklahoma and A&M are probably like top two,” Taylor said. “Now I talked to coach [Roy] Manning yesterday, coach [Alex] Grinch and coach [Lincoln] Riley as well so I had an opportunity to catch up with them. I know some of the players down there as well and they tell me good things about everything so basically I just want to see how they perform this year since they basically got a whole new defense and stuff like that.”

Taylor said he plans to move forward focusing on building relationships with the coaches in his recently released top 12 and stick to a similar timeline as he had before.

“I'm just taking my time to focus on certain schools that I could possibly see myself playing at,” Taylor said. “I've also talked to Ohio State so I mean I could probably see an offer there probably within the next few weeks and then leading up to the season I might drop like a top five or top seven during like mid-season and then that way once the season's over I can start to narrow it down by the time senior year starts I probably would be committed by then.”

Ish is the only guy any recruit mentions other than Elijah. At all. I'd hire him away from aggy just to impact them - even if he didn't make that same impact at Texas.

Hmm. Even if his measurements are correct, a 6’2 260 DT doesn’t seem like a frame to get excited about, unless he has sick athleticism and/or a massive wingspan like Poona.

Perroni - "Which 2022 targets are high on A&M?"

Jimbo clearly sent an edict out to the various aggy Pravda outlets that they need to push that aggy cares about in-state recruits this cycle.

Looking at the 2022 class: Which targets are highest on A&M?

Yes, the class of 2022 can not sign anywhere for about 16 more months. However, with class of 2021 prospects well ahead of the pace of their counterparts from recent years on making decisions, a lot of attention has already been turned to the rising juniors.

Texas A&M still has room for 10 more players in the class of 2021 and is in good standing with a number of its remaining targets.

With the class of 2022, the Aggies have yet to pick their first pledge as things have slowed down a bit there with no spring evaluation period or summer camps.

However, there are already a number of known top targets and the Aggies are in good shape with a number of them.

Here are some of the players the Maroon and White are in the best shape with in the class. This is not a comprehensive list of each player that has interest in the Aggies or that could end up in the class, but is simply the ones who are the highest on A&M.

LEWISVILLE WR ARMANI WINFIELD

The nation’s No. 76 overall prospect, Armani Winfield was one of the first players in the class to pick up an A&M offer when he was still just a freshman.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder and A&M as he really likes both the Aggie program and the staff.

In what is a common theme with 2022 prospects, he is high on both A&M and Oklahoma. Out of all the top receivers in the state, the Aggies are in the best shape with him.

DICKINSON TE DONOVAN GREEN

(Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

Donovan Green is ranked as the top tight end in the country and the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder is the only one being recruited by the Aggies at the moment.

Green likes the fact that A&M has had a first-team All-American and a freshman All-American tight end in the first two years under the new staff. It also helps that the Freshman All-American, Jalen Wydermyer, is from Dickinson as well.

Green does not plan to make a decision anytime soon but the Aggies are in as good of shape as anybody as James Coley has definitely let him know he is a major priority for A&M and the only player the current staff has offered at the position – one other player has an A&M offer but it came from the previous staff when he was an eighth grader.

HUMBLE SUMMER CREEK OT KELVIN BANKS

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

Kelvin Banks has emerged this spring and summer as one of the top linemen in the country as the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder has dominated at camps.

After having made a very early commitment to Oklahoma State during his sophomore season, he decommitted last month. Even before being offered by the Aggies, he was high on A&M.

LSU and Texas are two of the other major players in Banks’ recruitment at the moment but the Aggies are in good shape as he likes the team, the coaches and the town.

ATASCOCITA OT KAM DEWBERRY

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)
Kam Dewberry started alongside current A&M starting lineman Kenyon Green at Atascocita as a freshman in 2018. Now, he is set to be an upperclassman and is one of the most highly-recruited players in the country.

The 6-foot-4, 313-pound Dewberry really likes the SEC and there is a lot of talk from other players that he is likely to end up in the league. That could be good news for A&M.

Dewberry is close to Green and worked out with him this summer. But LSU, Alabama and some others are making things interesting. Oklahoma and Texas should not be counted out either.

DICKINSON OT PJ WILLIAMS

PJ Williams played on the offensive line for the first time ever as a sophomore and the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder took to it naturally. Against tough competition, he was a first-team all-district pick and his basketball background helped as well with the athleticism.

Now ranked as the No. 88 prospect in the country, Williams’ ceiling is very high with the combination of his frame and that athleticism.

He and teammate Green are not a package deal but have definitely talked about playing together. Williams has been to Aggieland for a game and liked it and A&M is in as good of shape as anyone here as well.

KATY DE MALICK SYLLA

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

The scary thing about Malick Sylla is that the 6-foot-6, 235-pound defender is very good but has not come close to reaching his incredibly high potential. As a sophomore, he was a key part of the rotation for state power Katy and should have a dominant junior season.

Sylla is ranked as a five-star as schools absolutely love his athleticism as a pass rusher. He is likely to eventually play around 270 pounds while still staying as a rush end. A&M has compared him to Myles Garrett and, while it is not fair to project him as the future No. 1 overall pick, it is a testament to Sylla’s abilities.

LSU, Oklahoma and Texas are all heavily involved with him as well but Sylla has been very vocal about wanting to play with current teammate Bobby Taylor at the next level and both are very high on the Aggies.

FLOWER MOUND CORAM DEO DL JADON SCARLETT

(Photo: Hudl)

A&M was one of the first schools to offer Jadon Scarlett, who hails from a small private school in DFW. The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder would likely have a more impressive offer list already if there had been spring ball and summer camps.

But, he certainly pops on film and A&M likes his quickness. They think he can play either defensive end or defensive tackle in Aggieland.

Scarlett will certainly add plenty of other offers going forward but, after a virtual visit with A&M this week, he is very high on the Aggies. As long as A&M continues to pursue him heavily, he is one to watch.

HOUSTON CY PARK LB HAROLD PERKINS

(Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

Harold Perkins has some of the most fun film to watch out of any player in the class. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder does a little bit of everything from a brand-new Cy Park program, lining up at quarterback, running back, linebacker and safety.

A&M has made him a big priority at linebacker and the four-star defender has a ton of reciprocal interest. A virtual visit last month was a huge deal with him and gave the Aggies a lot of momentum there. They just need to get him on campus once visits are allowed.

LSU and Texas are also major players with Perkins, who some schools see as a potential safety.

KATY CB BOBBY TAYLOR

(Photo: Andrew Hattersley, 247Sports)

As mentioned early, Bobby Taylor insists that he and five-star defensive end teammate Sylla will play at the same college. A&M is one of three schools, which also include LSU and Oklahoma, that are after both really heavily.

Taylor made no secret that the Aggies were at the top of his list even before receiving an offer. The Maroon and White have had to put out some fires after the cornerback coaching change and the recent additions of some 2021 DBs but they are back up there at the top, along with Oklahoma.

Taylor could play either cornerback or safety at the next level and A&M likes that versatility. While he once considered making an early commitment, he now does not plan to have a decision until spring at the earliest.

PORT ARTHUR MEMORIAL CB JAYLON GULBEAU

(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

Texas A&M was the first school to offer Jaylon Guilbeau, doing so at the end of last summer before he had played on varsity. The Aggies’ instincts were correct as the 5-foot-11.5, 175-pound defender had a big debut season on varsity for the Titans.

Guilbeau is now ranked as the No. 134 prospect in the country and has a very good combination of size and speed. He had listed the Aggies as his top school for quite some time but Texas is now very much in the mix as well.

Guilbeau’s older teammate and friend Jordon Thomas committed to Longhorns over the Aggies and that gave them some momentum with the defensive back as well. But, A&M is still one of the top two schools and still have a legitimate shot at landing him.

GARLAND S CHACE BIDDLE

(Photo: Mike Roach, 247Sports)

A&M has not had a ton of luck at Garland over the years but four-star safety Chace Biddle had long said A&M was an offer he was hoping for. That offer came for the 6-foot, 190-pound defender earlier this summer.

Biddle has built a strong rapport with Aggie analyst Ishmael Aristide and has the Maroon and White as one of his top choices.

Oklahoma landed his teammate, four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson, and Texas has traditionally done well recruiting the Owl program. Those three schools are all very much in it.

Perroni - "Which 2022 targets are high on A&M?"

Jimbo clearly sent an edict out to the various aggy Pravda outlets that they need to push that aggy cares about in-state recruits this cycle.

All of them. That'll be $9.95.

Looch narrative:

Ewers to Texas:  No biggie, this won't have near the impact the sips and Hermensa think it will.

Had Ewers committed to aggy:  This is the one.  Jimbo got his Jameis.  Watch the floodgates open and tu be forced to bank on OOS recruiting.  Beginning of the end for Hermensa and the shush man.  Saban and Orgeron are worried what this means going forward.

@Fud @golfclap Outside of the Dickinson TE, does aggy have a shot at any of the other high level skill position players?

Burton - no, looks to be Texas and ou.

Stewart - no, looks to be a strong Texas lean.

Blue - no, Texas and LSU

Winfield - no, looks to be leaning to ou, but that was before the Ewers news hit.

Appears to be a few more RBs and WRs that make up the Top 30 in Texas.

I don’t know the class well yet, but in general, I think A&M can win big WR recruitments despite Jimbo’s offense sucking because Dame Craig is a strong dirty recruiter

Does Looch have an early top 44 for this class?  Figure it's going to get shuffled around some if Ewers was #1.

No, he needs Jimbo to reel in some commits before he can rank the class.

Dickinson TE #1, Katy isd players 2-6. Atascacita OL #7, then the best of lufkin and Pearland round out the top 10.

These are seemingly in an order, but you’d expect either the texags rating or the national rating to be in decending order. Neither are. Advantage a&m?

TexAgs has their own rankings separate from the top 44

Hermensa and the Shushman sounds like an avant-garde crime thriller

Dewberry

Sylla

maybe Perkins

Alexander

Brooks

Williams

These guyd need a lesson from @golfclap how outside of a school or 2 that nobody gives a shit about going to aggy to play with a bunch of OOS guys they don't know while everyone else is going to Texas or others.

Gods work @texifornia, many thanks.

It continues to baffle me how many things are just said, with no basis, to comfort themselves.  Over and over again.  Terrible Oline, no one in the NFL, bad recruiting.   I really wish Rduke cared more about proving them wrong on those points, as opposed to financial nonsense.  Would be nice to see 2500 word retorts to all that bullshit on a daily basis.

Don't you ever summon that fucking mental case to this board, we don't need a 4000 word essay on aggy's obvious bullshit.
