I know this topic may not be of excitement to most basketball fans here, but I go absolutely nuts for Team USA basketball.

The first time I ever saw Team USA play was at the the '92 Olympics - "The Dream Team." Arguably, the greatest basketball team ever assembled and 8 year old UDontKnow could only watch in awe. Yes, nothing will ever come close to that team. But seeing NBA rivals team up together to thrash the rest of the world especially those former Soviet commies playing as the "Unified Team" was a sight to behold. I have been a fan ever since.

This team is definitely not at full strength, but has enough to sweep to the gold medal, IMO (and that should be Team USA's standard).

As they say, country over club! Let the red, white, and blue proudly wave! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

interesting roster (and 2 longhorns!):

pg - kemba walker, kyle lowry, marcus smart

sg - donovan mitchell

sf - khris middleton, jayson tatum, jaylen brown, harrison barnes, pj tucker

pf - kyle kuzma, thaddeus young

c - miles turner, brook lopez, bam adebao, mason plumlee

i'd probably start both kemba and lowry, middelton, tatum and turner.  mitchell would be the 6th man instant offense off the bench guy.

lowry, smart, brown, tucker and turner would be a fun defensive lineup.

PJ Tucker's inclusion in this roster is interesting. Probably brought on due to his commitment to defense and his evolved 3 point shot. Think Shane Battier when he was on Team USA from 2006-2008. I wonder if he actually starts so that he can play stopper against the other team's best player.

I'm quite concerned about this team.   It could turn out to be good with its collection of role players but with only 1-2 top 20 player I definitely could see them being pushed hard by some of these teams that have been together longer.

Watched last night's scrimmage which was an unpleasant TV viewing experience thanks to unnecessary length and number of interviews.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27358812/team-usa-cuts-young-adebayo-scrimmage

Thaddeus Young and Bam Adebayo out (they were just depth for training) and Derrick White and Marvin Bagley promoted to the Senior Team. No one else from Select Team likely to get promoted before next week's tilt against Spain. I'm guessing that the tournament roster will be made prior to traveling to Australia.

I watched only a few mins but what I saw seemed like they were going through the motions.   Not really playing hard.   I would think they would be more competitive with each other.

Agreed, the effort was lackadaisical. I didn't see much from any bigs and I wonder if Brook Lopez and Miles Plumlee will cut it especially against the likes of Australia and Serbia. Just have to hope that they can hold up defensively.

The roster includes: Harrison Barnes, Marvin Bagley III, Jaylen Brown, De'Aaron Fox, Joe Harris, Kyle Kuzma, Brook Lopez, Kyle Lowry, Khris Middleton, Donovan Mitchell, Mason Plumlee, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, P.J. Tucker, Myles Turner, Kemba Walker, and Derrick White.

2 cuts after next week's game against Spain (roster down to 15)

3 cuts after tune-up games in Australia (roster down to 12)

Guesses as to who gets cut? Kyle Lowry and Marcus Smart might be ones to watch for simply because of injury.

I've been wondering since the big names started dropping out if guys are now dropping cause they don't wanna be a part of a team that doesn't win.    This tourney being so late in the off season is a part of it too.

So team USA lost TWO scrimmages to a team assembled from fringe NBA players and d league players.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/08/team-usa-basketball-fiba-scrimmage-loss-g-league-roster

Much of the discussion about Team USA Basketball heading into the FIBA World Cup surrounded the squad’s complete lack of star power. And matters only seem to be getting worse for the U.S. team.

USA Basketball held its camp in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and the practice included a scrimmage against a random group of fringe NBA, G League and overseas players. What was probably supposed to be a confidence-boosting scrimmage aimed at building chemistry ended up being an embarrassing defeat for the national team.

That’s right. A team led by guys like Scottie Hopson, Chris Chiozza and Justin Anderson took it to Team USA in the 10-minute scrimmage and won by 19 points (36-17). Seriously, look at this roster. Jeff Van Gundy pulled off some coaching magic

seats near the rafters.. but its good to see basketball again

How was the game? I watched it on NBATV and was disappointed with the number of turnovers. Maybe it's a just tuneup game and the team will tighten things up when it counts.

Two more cuts left after PJ Tucker departs due to a tweaked left ankle. Marcus Smart makes the most sense because he hasn't played at all due to his left calf injury. If having true big men in this tournament wasn't a necessity, I'd bid adieu to Miles Plumlee. Good lord, he was terrible to watch. I wish Myles Turner starts and then Brook Lopez can substitute for him off of the bench. I'm going to guess that final cut will be Derrick White - looked really uncomfortable on the court. With a four guard rotation of Kemba Walker, Donovan Mitchell, De'Aaron Fox, and Jaylen Brown, White looks to be the odd man out.

Derrick White comes in and brings the team back. He should probably play more.

LOL. He needs to not have untimely turnovers. Shitty coaching job by Popovich. He should be embarrassed to play Miles Plumlee as long as he did. Plumlee comes in and the 10 point lead evaporates. Get it together, Team USA isn't supposed to lose - EVER.

FUCK GREGG POPOVICH! Goddamn for making my country lose and just standing there reading your fucking index cards.

Lol. Making your country lose? You should be upset at all the players who left leaving your country with this C level team.

His coaching was questionable all fucking game. Kuzma was out, yes, but geez did he blow that 3rd quarter. No excuse for giving up a 10 point lead. Overly reliant on Plumlee and Middleton when they suck ass on D. Bogut went buck wild with Plumlee. Hey Popovich, why don't you scheme against Patty Mills...you should know his game right?!

It's your country too Kermit, unless of course you're from elsewhere.

You're slitting your wrists over an exhibition game. Australia played great. The U.S. didn't. Pop was clearly trying out different line-ups. It's not the end of the world. And no, Jeff Van Gundy shouldn't be coaching this team. Myles Turner sucked dick too, dude. As did Tatum, Middleton, the other token white boy, Kemba in the second half, and whatever the fuck Donovan Mitchell clone they rolled out of bed. If Derrick White didn't bounce his head off the floor, YOUR COUNTRY probably wins.

Nah dude. It's more than an exhibition game. Team USA is not supposed to lose...not in basketball. IDGAF how much the world has caught up. There was a time to play around with lineups and Popovich took it too far. This is not a team designed to play from behind - at least that deep into the game. The team better get it together before the actual tournament because it needs to be a clean sweep.

And I think we all know who the last cut is gonna be after this game and Marcus Smart being named a captain. (Gee, maybe he could have gotten more minutes?)

I hate to break it to you, but they’re probably going to lose again. If the big men on the team can’t guard Baynes and a washed up Bogut, Jokic is going to murder them. It’s just not a very good roster, and unlike 2010 there’s no Kevin Durant to save them.

You're right. I'm over it. It hurt. It hurt badly. But I've accepted reality. 2010 Kevin Durant was amazing and quite necessary.
