Stinks for Young. Sounds like by the time he is back, he may have been passed over (further) on the depth chart.

What depth chart?  More like shallow chart...  Amirite?

He was already the third string RB and I don't think there is any danger of him falling further considering Kirk Johnson is behind him. That just might mean a few more goal line and short yardage carries for Bam Bam Sam which is suboptimal, especially against La Tech.

Is tjhat RB we signed from Georgia even on campus and enrolled?  I know he wasn't going to play this year.  Although it would kind of make sense to gray shirt or whatever, because he'd still have 4/5 years to play from first enrollment.

He supposed to be on campus when classes start next week.

He should be done for the year. Or at least until late enough in the season that he can get some reps in three games and keep a RS.

Whittington may be too good of a player to Redshirt... 3yr outstanding athlete that leaves early for NFL...

Whit is a guy that will, unfortunately, struggle with injury throughout his career. His body is so tightly wound that he'll be subject the things like strains. I think you have to keep him out until next year. Then you've got the opportunity to break Bijan in slowly with a fully healthy backup to KI

We currently have one scholarship RB until October. How on earth would we be able to redshirt Whittington if he’s ready to play in four weeks.

And that one scholly RB isn’t 100% either. Were there any JUCO and transfer RBs at the caliber of Watson this year? Honestly, it’s hard for us to recruit many grad transfers due to enrollment requirements.

However this is another lesson learned by this staff that you can never have too many weapons.

Hindsight is 20/20

Yeah but plenty of people have been concerned about this basically from the point we lost the Cain recruitment.   Then it was a massive concern after Derrian Brown.  Horrible luck, no doubt, but also a fuckup to come into fall camp with 4 scholarship RB's, one of which, has never been healthy his entire career.

This is not 'hindsight', plenty of people have dogged Drayton on this for ages. Even if Derrian Brown hadn't had that freak medical issue, we would still be in a very precarious position at RB.

RBs get injured. A lot. It's not 'bad luck' or 'hindsight', it's the reality of the position. Foreman leaving and Porter turning out to be a bust began the downhill slide at the position.

We had 6 guys at RB, how many do you think we need

Ingram - constantly dinged up his freshman year

Whittington - known groin issue (although I guess the staff didn't know it was that bad), build that is somewhat susceptible to injury with his playing style

Young - no significant injury history, this one was just shit luck

Kirk Johnson - made of glass

Brown - suffered stroke early in the calendar year

Ramirez - walk-on given a scholarship in fall camp

We had "6 guys" in name only.

I'd rather get two outstanding years and write the first off making sure he gets 100 percent healthy than rush him and permanently stunt his career arc.
