Texas 2020 general election

White suburban soccer moms, many of them former republicans, are going to massacre the Texas GOP this fall and is why trump can actually lose the state and why the Texas GOP is in full blown panic mode.

I’ll believe it when I see it (lose the state). And GOP is putting on a full court press trying to persuade that group back into the fold.

Unlike most men, most women aren’t stupid. There is literally nothing that is going to persuade them “back into the fold.”

It will be entertaining to watch them try though. Maybe Dan Patrick can shoot a humorous campaign commercial with Greg Abbot where they carpool the kids to school together and lament the evils of socialism on the way.

The GOP has a branding problem. Evangelicals are salivating at the thought of going against Supreme Court precedent by actually bringing up the Roe Vs. Wade case again. People in the suburbs who go to nice fancy schools fear school shootings.

Every single major shooting in the news damages the republicans brand. Republicans mistakenly believe that every single person should have a gun to protect themselves. I personally believe the less guns and less overall bullets In the air, the better. Open carry is fucking dumb. Concealed carry seemed to work for everyone. I don’t really think about assault weapons because I never see them. I don’t really focus on the guns issue to be honest.

basically, the GOP wants to tell all women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. (Some repubs even want to limit access to basic birth control etc. ) the GOP also doesn’t want your children to be safe in schools. They want “ MOAR GUNS PLZ”. They pay lip service to lowering property taxes and rarely follow through in any significant and meaningful way. When a major school shooting happens, Republicans in unison tweet out THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS for the victims then go on with their day by pretending the shooting never happened and the people they just tweeted about don’t even exist.

the GOP literally has NOTHING to offer women in the suburbs and they have been voting accordingly. As long as we don’t put up some bat crazy socialist, I’m not worried about their votes.

Good luck with that. In Texas, pissed off women just took at least a share of the wheel of the Democratic Party. They’re making a difference and having a voice. Don’t think they’re looking to give that up.

Seriously--you're over-thinking it.  Tim is a man.  Kennon is an ambiguous name.
Uninformed voters went to the polls and voted for the woman over the man right down the ballot.  That is really the only explanation.

Kennon knew that was going to be an issue. That’s why her signs all had the cartoon drawing of her showing she’s a woman. But it wasn’t enough for the number of low info voters that show up in a Presidential year.

In the past, the women of Texas probably did what women in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and louisiana still do. They go to the polls with their husbands, vote how their husbands tell them too, and go back home.

Now a days the women of Texas think for themselves and very understandably....... they don’t like trump very much. The GOP has nothing to offer women, unless women have an income in the top 10%, own a business, or are married to a guy who falls into those categories. I can see why the vast majority of women would vote democrat and think there would be something wrong if they didn’t.

besides,  the Democratic Party has rewarded there support by fighting for their reproductive rights and electing lots of women. In this day and age,  your average republican member of the house or senator would STILL be a white male over 50. The GOP sucks when it comes to diversity and inclusiveness.

Either that or open more polling places in minority areas.   Jesus fucking Christ it’s not that hard to fix abbott / Goeb.

Straight ticket voting helps both parties.

Yeah, but who does it help more?

I'm not at all convinced that it helps the GOP more.  I could see a lot of MAGAts voting for Trump and then leaving the rest of the ballot blank.

I was wondering why the GOP did this-eliminating straight ticket voting, because on the surface straight ticket voting should help them. But when you combine it with the statewide shutting down of polling stations in the cities it starts to make sense. Make the lines in the city so long that people, mostly democrats, won’t wait. Won’t effect rural white areas as much.

It will be critical in the fall to emphasize early voting to counter the GOP undemocratic Jim Crow voter suppression tactics.

Hopefully lots of people in Harris county learned that early voting is your friend.

at the same time, this democratic primary was extremely difficult to gauge. I can see why people waited until the last minute because nobody wanted to “waste their vote”.

that won’t be a problem in the fall when it will clearly be Biden or Sanders vs. trump.

Women are showing up.

Don’t know about Latinos - haven’t seen any numbers on their turnout thus far.

It’s the damn loudmouth youngsters who haven’t so far.

They could lock this thing up easily but as of now they seem to be confusing bitching on Twitter with actual voting.

Yep.

Women are showing up. And they are fucking PISSED.
Latinos look to be showing up at slightly better numbers, but not blowing them up.
Young voters...remain fucking worthless. The surest way to lose a campaign is to count on the youth vote. They aren’t going to show up and help. They never have, they never will. And I really don’t understand why. But they don’t.

The under 45 group is much more progressive than 45 and up. In 10 years though the under 55 group will be out voting everyone else by default. At that point the progressives will finally take over the Democratic party.

By then, however, more conservative Democrats will forget about how bad Republicans are, with the help of corporate media, and vote Republicans into power. The corporate oligarchy will always control the narrative and con the public into voting for the best interests of the wealthy.

Add no-straight ticket voting along with “vote anywhere”, and you could create some dirty trick voting scenarios.

The loss of straight ticket voting will already slow down voting. send in voters who will purposely vote slowly at certain locations which are most likely filled with voters opposite your party. Spend 30 minutes in a voting booth, complain the machine is malfunctioning, and finally vote. I would guess that 10-15 operatives at key times could create a very long line behind them.

to be honest, you might be able to legally stand in a voting booth for hours but that might be pushing it.

The young voter in our household voted. I asked if his friends did and he said some did but they were all complaining about the wait times. I pointed out that I had early voted which with his schedule was probably preferable, and that smart phones make waiting in line less onerous than in the old days.

Tone.

Millenials are probably the most liberal generation ever.  I don’t see us ever being a majority republican.

I think elections are going to get harder for the GOP as the last of the silent generation dies off and baby boomers start to lose their numbers. Probably 80% of the silent generation votes GOP and they all freaking vote. It seems like everyone over 50 votes.

Young people stand in line to vote? Are you kidding? If they can't do it online they ain't doing it.

Yup I picked her because she was endorsed here. Thought she was a man based on the name til I saw her poster. I can absolutely see people who were voting uninformed seeing the names and picking the one that was obviously female.

Anybody feeling more confident in some down ballot races (Texas house) now that its likely Biden will be at the top of the ballot? I’m not a biden fan but I could see this working out well for some Texas Dems.

According to people I know whose job it is to know, Biden winning saved the chances for the dems to take the Texas house. If so that will be huge.

Without a doubt,  Biden definitely helps the Senate races, house races, and local races in Texas.

the fear is that the suburban people who fled to the democrats because of trump would go back because Bernie was a threat to their livelihood. He would’ve taxed wealthy people into oblivion.

But did all of them flee to the Democrats, or is it just that they hate Trump and will split their ballot?

I think there was a lot of ticket splitting in 2016.

then after 2 years of listening to trump, most of the former repubs voted full blue to take the house away from him.

Delaying the special election for Senate 14 and the runoffs from May (when we might, if we're lucky, be back to some semblance of normalcy) to July when we should have much higher turnout...you think that's a bad thing?  Curious as to whY?

because it allows people (in say, November) to point back to this and say delaying elections is totally appropriate.  we've been doing it all year because of this virus.

The Senate 14 deal has a wide berth in terms of when you can delay it.  The primary runoffs are a bit of a different story.  Fine, hold it tomorrow...only fucking people turning out are hardcore Republicans who believe the President.  At least in July, there's a fighting chance of normal fucking people emerging from quarantine voting just because it's something to do besides watching "full house" reruns (I mean, so I've heard).
