Songs about Death and Passing

I don't think this is an "official" video, but it suits the song.  One of Patty's greatest tunes.

"Forty years go by with someone lyin' in your bed

Forty years of things you say you wished you'd never said

How hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead?

I wonder as I stare up at the sky and turning red?"

(lyrics transcribed from a live performance, I think they're more telling than those on the recording)

Pearl Jam has always been great on the funeral/coping with death songs. They have several, these three resonate the most with me.

Man of the Hour is an all-timer that I’ve instructed the misses to play on my behalf when she inevitably outlives me:

Light Years is about struggling to understand why a good person is just gone:

..and I recently came to the realization that the very melancholy sounding Parachutes is about counting down to the inevitable with a loved one:

I absolutely love Long Ride Home.

I found this EP on the back wall at Waterloo years ago, and it's sadly likely relegated to the dustbin of history (no youtube), but Median States by Quinimine is one of the most haunting tunes I've ever heard.

Spoiler

We're 5 misfits like a pile of mis-matched socks hobbling into H2T later in the day of 9/11 drunk with despair and disbelief to record our first record. In between the news on TV and weeping we lay down this frail and flawed Drone country toon.

Taken from the Filaments EP, released by Grey Flat Records of Chicago. Recorded at Thee Mighty Hotel2Tango 2001 by Howard Bilerman

lyrics

When pontius spoke out loud,
we'll run this ship aground
and kiss you under crosses & nails
forget about Mary's thunder

we're mired in the torpor and bitter in the spring.
Mary I feel weaker than just about everything

Mary I feel so young
as ambulance lights flash above me....

When Judas takes a lover
we'll marry in the spring
the scarlet whore of babylon
and just about everything

released January 1, 2002

Likewise, it's hard to find, but Milton Mapes put out an album with two great farewell songs, Bowie AZ and Craters of the Moon, if you can find them out there.  Kinda strange to find one album with two songs I want played at my funeral.

And there's this.

Long As I Can See The Light CCR

Put a candle in the window
'Cause I feel I've gotta move
Though I'm goin', goin'
I'll be comin' home soon
Long as I can see the light
Pack my bag and let's get moving
'Cause I'm bound to drift awhile
Though I'm gone, gone
You don't have to worry
Long as I can see the light
Guess I've got that old travelin' bone
'Cause this feeling won't leave alone
But I won't, won't
Be losin' my way
Long as I can see the light
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Oh yeah
Put a candle in the window
'Cause I

This will be played at my funeral after my passing.
