There's a realignment of the GOP, based on combining the absolute worst of both parties.  It's not about left/right for the GOP right now.   The D side is trying to find a balance for progressives, Clinton Dems, and the former Republicans who in play until the Trump era is flushed by the toilet of history.

The Dems are identity politics and socialists.  Exactly why the worst GOP candidate ever won.

Truth.  Obama, Fox News, conscious and unconscious racism, and the Russians have exploited a serious issue in this country that has never been fully addressed.

This country was founded on slavery of blacks and destruction/subjugation of the native Americans. 3/5 of a person and reservations. If you don’t realize that you are a fool or willfully ignorant. It’s IMO what Kubrick was showing in The Shining, which had almost nothing to do with King’s book.

Nor do I feel really guilty about it because I personally didn’t do it. Hell as a white guy in his 40s, I don’t really worry about it too much as ultimately it benefited me and my family and I live a pretty good life. But someday the truth has to be addressed.

In contrast to Reagan who I disagreed with on some things but at least acted like an honorable man and president and tried to do and succeeded in doing some good, the modern day GOP of old whites has completely debased itself and become the party of pimps, pussy grabbers and child molesters who like to blow serious holes in the deficit and elect cartoon character reality actor presidents so they can blame the government later for the inevitable meltdown and then really stick it to the “others.”

The modern day GOP hates Reagan and Jesus’ principles and teachings. They are too far gone.  In order to avoid the alternative (i.e. being the controlled minority) they want to ultimately become what South Africa had under apartheid. Old whites fully in control of the browns masses. Voter ID laws, purging of voting rolls, etc. Trump obviously wants to be Emporer, his words say it every day, and I don’t think his supporters would mind that result at all. Again I’ll allow that this may be unconscious, but its a real threat IMO.

I often wonder if we are living in Rome 2.0. The current version of the GOP needs to be stopped. Unless we wind up in a state where the Emporer rules after the disbanding of the Senate.

The GOP has moved left since then. And he was more conservative than Trump, Romney or McCain.

GHW Bush was left of Reagan

Bill Clinton would be called a racist right winger by today’s democrats. Look at his platform.

Wrong, you and the GOP voters have moved right.

If we're going to play the game of wide gloopy brushes that paint over subtle nuances, one could also argue that the entire Trump campaign was based on white identity politics and overt fascism.

Oh wait,  we're supposed to stay in place in time? We are not allowed to change over time?

I could not fucking care less about the Clinton's right now. Shit changes and life goes on. The GOP is bad mouthing John Gotdam Hero McCain. He's dying only slightly more slowly than Teddy did. He's gone and they cannot help themselves but kick him on the way out. He might be a proto RINO. Who was patient zero of the RINO disease?

Is anybody gonna tell brisket, or is he left to learn this lesson on his own.

It’s a great moral lesson.

But you know well that the data shows the exact opposite. Negative campaigns based on lies, hate, and propaganda WIN. It’s why those things still flourish. Because they work. They just did in 2016, and they’ve set the new standard.

Go ahead and run a campaign based on decency, honesty, and good ideas.

While you’re at it, draft your concession speech.

Mitt Romney hated minorities, gays and women.  A truly evil man per the American media.

GAH, I honestly don't know what to think anymore.  Sometimes I agree with the article from the Maggie tweet, sometimes with Brisket.  Sometimes I just say fuck it and get drunk.

It’s only “identity politics” when you’re talking about equal rights for minorities. White supremacy is just the natural state of things and should be celebrated. Johnny Sack out front shoulda told ya.

Listen to Reagan on entitlements.  And tell me he’d be a democrat.  Jesus.  He wanted to make social security optional.

And immigration?  He supported amnesty as a one time deal with the assumption congress would work with him to actually secure the border.

Reagan made the fatal mistake that his Democrat counterparts would stay true to their word.  His "support" on immigration was based upon a supposed compromise in spending.  Every dollar increase in tax revenue would be matched by 3 dollars in spending cuts.  Tip reneged.

The "new" standard?  Are you "new" to politics?  Jesus, mud slinging and vitriol go back to the inception of this country.  The contests of the 19th century routinely descended into cesspools of public deviance, racism, and religious and personal slander.

Claims of "hideous hermaphroditical" characters between Adams and Jefferson (with convictions for violating the Sedition Act and jail time).  Claims candidates would subvert the foundation of democracy and pivot back to British Monarchy.  Claims by Federalists who were equally convinced that Jefferson would effectively open the borders to foreign radicals and clamp down on religion.  Then into the early 1800's, claims of the other being a "pimp" and engaging in polygamy.  A spotlight so harsh some think it led to the death of Jefferson's wife.  Jesus. he carved his hate on his tombstone for the slander on his wife!  It goes on and on.  Cleveland's affair with Halpin, and their illegitimate child - who was publicly attacked.

Yeah, Trump just thinks the media is mean to him.

The press was brutal in the 19th century.

If the press these days was as bad as the 19th century, we’d be inundated with “Pence is gay” and “Trump wants to fuck his daughter” stories.

Our own Sam Houston physically assaulted another senator with his cane.  I remember taking an extended tour at the White House years back and there are crimson stains on a set of white, marble stairs.  "Rumored" to be drops of blood from a gunshot wound from Houston who shot a reporter for slander & libel.  In Parliament, the distance between the benches - conveniently the exact distance of a mans arm holding his sword.  Go back hundreds of years, evidence of clubbings and murder within various countries' legislative sessions.  Now we get a case of the vapors over fucking tweets...

The sword length deal is a myth.  I know this because I just did a Parliament tour a couple of months ago.  MPs and Lords have been banned from carrying weapons in to Parliament for 700 years which predates the current building by several hundred years.  The saying is kept around to remind members to seek compromise.

Blood drops probably are too - but you get the point (no pun intended).  Politics has always been a nasty, vitriol-filled process.  That we have actually removed the physical threat of violence (unless you have dirt on the Clintons, then you commit suicide by shooting yourself twice in the back of the head) shows how far we have come.

Yeah. Fumbling. Right.

You are whistling past the graveyard. This is a new thing. I can't remember a time when some brass said the ones that kept him up at night was us. Cruz is scared. He had to come up with a bill. They are getting killed on the kid prisons. Spin it how you want.

Tahoe better get over here and reassure everyone that it's all going to be ok.

How is Will Hurd flying under the radar? The dude is a black Republican from Texas that has been pretty consistent in taking stances in opposition to the Trump administration. He has an odd district that runs from the border to up and around north Bexar county. My sister lives in his district in an area where houses start off around $500K. Actually, Hurd pulls in a number of high income neighborhoods.

What I find interesting about Hurd is he seems to be representative of the border areas more than the money areas he represents. The dude is an aggy and was the student President during the bonfire tragedy. Anyways, I think the guy is pretty interesting and wish the rest of the GOP was more like him.

Hurd said all the right things in recent TV appearances. He did not sound like a Republican at all, at least not on this issue. I was glad that at least one house Republican has some human decency.

He doesn’t seem to mind coming out against the administration and so far, with no reprisals.  Perhaps even trump listens to advice that Hurd has to stand against trump in order to remain in office.   Ultimately it only matters that Hurd follows the party line when it comes to voting.

Boy--I find that hard to believe.  I mean, I think Sessions is in a lot of trouble.  But I think Hurd is a dead-congressman walking.  He wins that district by a nose in the most Republican of years--it's impossible for me to see how he wins it in this environment.

And I think Culberson is probably in worse shape than Sessions.

And I wouldn't sleep on John Carter.  He shouldn't be in as much trouble as he's in.  But he is.

Bullshit. I have values. You are an asshole with no values and no real argument.
