Is this a joke?

Not sure what part of it is supposed to be a joke. If Arch is the rare guy that can dominate as a true freshman then fine. There's been like 1 or 2 this century. If Card is still here he will definitely be better at that point.

If it's not that, then I must've missed the memo where it was determined that Murphy is a scrub.

I mean, why not?  The obvious pro for Arch is his name and class bell-cow potential.  Murphy needs experience and development, but that's expected and he is a year ahead of Arch.  As for their on field talent they are very different types of player but probably a wash between the two.

I'm not expecting many to agree with me but I agree with your post. Obviously want Manning because of the affects it would have on recruiting. But I think Murphy has a higher ceiling along with a lower floor though. Murphy's arm talent jumps off the screen for me, in the games I have watched Arch, the last name is what jumps off the screen, also have to consider his competition.

I don't think it's outrageous to think Murphy could wind up being the guy. His arm is impressive. I'm hoping Card will still be around or Wright/Murphy will be good enough to start in 2023. Let Arch sit for a year or 2.

Hahahahahahaha What in the fuck are you dipshits doing here? Is this some new method of performance art?

Arch Manning isn't going somewhere to sit for 2 years.

Murphy and Manning aren't a "wash" in talent. Are you guys watching any footage of people Texas is actually recruiting? Do you watch actual games? Or is this thinking derivative of some dark web version of NCAA Football 2021 that y'all are playing?

Hudson Card will be gone by New Year's Day, never having done a fucking thing on campus to justify any, I mean any, of the hype he's been afforded.

Sadly, it does not appear to be the case, as he's doubled down.

QBs that start as freshmen are not rare. Do they all dominate? No. But plenty come in immediately and start. That considered, most are looking for a situation where they can come in for a year and then be the man, unless they show up and simply outshine everyone else.

Card has shown literally nothing to indicate that he'll be better in the future than one of the highest rated recruits in the past decade.

Murphy may wind up fine, but he has above average risk of being a complete flop. He's got an elite arm and physique to go with cement block feet and defensive illiteracy and mechanics that break down the moment he sense pressure, and that's all with a decade of personal training/mentoring by people who know their shit.

it’s actually kind of amazing how clueless and in the dark you are about this stuff, considering the way you deliver it.

With this in mind, how do you think the Mannings view the depth charts at Bama and UGA? I'm sure they feel like Arch is the best but in reality having 1-2 years head start in the system is a real advantage for Vandagriff/Stockton and Ty Simpson, all of whom are elite QBs as well.

I know these guys are competitors and none of them think they could possibly lose the competition, but the reality is that all those guys are extremely talented, someone has to lose and those extra 1-2 years matter.

You didn’t have to watch much of last night’s debacle to realize that despite years of being in attendance at the Manning Academy, despite pro measurables as a HS Junior, despite “bloodline,” etc., Arch Manning needs a real QB coach and an offensive system to maximize his abilities. Newman’s plan was shit. The family always turned to Cutcliffe before, but he’s not an option. They will pick the best environment to foment his talents and business opportunities, and Sarkisian/Milwee/Texas is the best choice.

Yeah I like that the Mannings historically have picked schools based on QB coach as much as anything. We're by far the winner in that category. Paired with liking the school/city, NIL opps, and the Sark relationship on a personal level, you have to think we're in great shape. Sounds like there are questions about surrounding him with talent, but I don't think that ends up as an issue, especially with the portal being a thing now. Offensive players are going to flock to Sark.

Wins/losses seems like the biggest question mark. I could see 8-4 or possibly even 7-6 this year. If that happens, how much do they care? It's not like Eli chose Ole Miss to win a natty. TN was no Bama when Peyton went there either. Also, it's Sark's first year. Some quick examples of first year records (regular season):

Saban: LSU, 7-4. Bama, 6-6

Kirby: 7-5

Dabo: 8-4 (was previously on staff too). 6-6 in year 2.

Jimbo (Aggy): 8-4

Fickell: 4-8

Franklin: 6-6

You get the point. First years are always rough. UT has one of the lowest returning production %s in the country this year too. Not saying it won't happen, but 8 or even 7 wins honestly shouldn't scare people off.

Portal makes this less of an issue, IMO. Go somewhere for a year, get the lay of the land, and bail if it looks the slightest bit unfavorable. For example, Quinn Ewers is going to start in 2022 - whether that's at tOSU or somewhere else.

True but still has to be somewhat of a negative. No one wants to portal from a personal, football, or NIL standpoint. Especially when the alternative is basically to start immediately and stay in one place

Humidor:

2023 prospects

Arch Manning info in the team installment. Wishcasting? Maybe. 75%, baby.

RB Rueben Owens, El Campo (El Campo, TX)
On3 ranking: No. 32

You think Owens was going to miss this? The top-ranked tailback in Texas for 2023 wasn't going to miss this game or opportunity. With some of the best talent in the junior cycle headed to Austin, Owens will return.

WR Johntay Cook, Desoto (Desoto, TX)
On3 ranking: No. 24

If there's one recruitment Texas is absolutely delivering on, it's Cook's. With two dozen offers, the 6-foot-0 four-star maintains the Horns are in it to win it. From Steve Sarkisian, to Jeff Banks, to Andre Coleman, to Chris Gilbert, UT is all-in on Cook and he's listening to every word. Plus, his friendship with Manning might help the Horns as well.

WR Jalen Hale, Longview (Longview, TX)
On3 ranking: No. 89

One of the top-rated receivers in the 2023 cycle, Hale will be in Austin with AAU coach T.J. Ford on Saturday. Oklahoma continues to pace this recruitment, but if their class fills up, look out for LSU. Texas and Texas A&M have some hills to climb in this pursuit.

WR Braylon James, Del Valle (Del Valle, TX)

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound multi-sport stud (football, basketball, track and field) holds double-digit offers and attended last week's wild Red River Shootout. He added Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss offers recently, and maintains a healthy bond with the Texas staff.

WR Rohan Fluellen, Gilmer (Gilmer, TX)

Has two older brothers who played smaller college ball but Rohan is destined for brighter lights. He visited UT already and is eager for the return trip. Wisconsin and Marshall just offered the 6-foot, 170-pound receiver.

TE Will Randle, Isidore Newman (New Orleans, LA)

At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, the tight end is a prospect in his own right with an offer list that includes LSU, Texas, Virginia and Florida State. Being the best friend of Arch Manning also has its privileges. Maybe he already has a friend and former teammate attending Texas, too. Who knows?

IOL Harris Sewell, Permian (Odessa, TX)
On3 ranking: No. 72

The top offensive line target in-state for the 2023 class, Sewell holds over 20 offers including Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. The Horns have a couple built-in advantages, namely with his family and desire to play with Arch Manning should Manning select Texas.

OL/DL Markis Deal, Naaman Forest (Garland, TX)

One of the top prospects in Texas, Deal plays offensive and defensive line at Naaman Forest, where his father is a coach. He prefers defensive tackle, but his real upside is likely at offensive tackle. After June trips to both Texas A&M and Texas, the Aggies were ahead of the Longhorns heading into the season.

DL Anthony James, East (Wylie, TX) - Texas A&M commit

The Texas A&M verbal was invited to the game this weekend. He doesn't appear to be relenting on his pledge to the Aggies at this time, but if he shows up it means something.

LB Anthony Hill Jr., Ryan (Denton, TX)
On3 ranking: No. 61

The four-star linebacker has been to Texas multiple times over the last few years. And despite all the offers and attention, he keeps coming back. Teammate and UT pledge Austin Jordan (good senior film, btw) has turned into a solid ride to the ATX.

EDGE Carson Dean, Hebron (Lewisville, TX)

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound EDGE prospect with a 34-inch vertical holds offers from Baylor and Washington. He's one to monitor moving forward.

LB S’Maje Burrell, North Crowley (Fort Worth, TX)

While Baylor is his only offer, he's a strong prospect that IT could see getting more popular as the year goes.

"The (Texas) coaches loved the way I play and enjoyed everything on film. They couldn't wait to get me down to Austin for a home game."

CB Jordan Matthews, Woodlawn (Baton Rouge, LA)
On3 ranking: No. 96

The top-rated corner in Louisiana for 2023 is one of the better defensive backs in the nation. With 22 offers including Texas, LSU, Georgia, and Texas A&M (he tripped to College Station for the Alabama game last weekend), Matthews might be tough to pull out of the Pelican State.

CB Vernon Glover Jr, Dickinson (Dickinson, TX)

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner won't miss an opportunity to visit the Longhorns. He's visited twice since late July and holds offers from UT, Texas A&M, UH, Colorado, and Kansas.

"I really hit it off with coach (Terry) Joseph and coach (Chris) Gilbert from the very beginning. I can't wait to get back."

S Mikal Harrison-Pilot, Temple (Temple, TX)

The four-star athlete is no stranger to the Forty Acres. Being a short drive from DKR has its advantages. Harrison-Pilot, who contributes on both sides of the ball, recently tripped to Baylor, USC, and Texas A&M. He also added offers from Cincinnati and Texas Tech in the last few weeks.

While I generally like IT, this happening after they spent half the offseason turning themselves into the Hudson Card Show is pretty damn funny.

Anyone know who/what this is referencing? Doesn't seem like it is anyone who actually went to that HS on our current roster so I am guessing a travel team?

I think what I read is there are quite a few kids who go to Texas in general from Arch/Randles high school that they hang out with up here. Cole Lourdes mom went there as well, allegedly.

I could be wrong but the assumption is being made that Arch will be a Longhorn and Randle can follow him to Austin.
