Iran attacks Saudi oil production

Not just that, you probably have to modify things on the ground because the drawings weren't entirely accurate, someone made a pipe spool 25 feet instead of 20 feet or with the wrong bend, and/or someone decided to tweak the design to make it more efficient without thinking about how that change would affect everything else, etc. Rushing major capital projects rarely goes as smoothly as anticipated. Even normal capital projects that have been planned out over a long period of time have these issues.

they can follow kuwait's lead and "hire" thousands of foreign workers, take away their passports, then basically make them slaves.  they can work their asses in 24 hour shifts.  shit will get fixed in no time.

The latest news is that the attack was done with low flying cruise missiles with some kind of drone assist.  Their pinpoint accuracy is notable.  One main takeaway is that this was a very serious demonstration of their capability with cruise missiles.  No one died, but they disabled half of Saudi oil production.  Anyone think the 17 or so weapons deployed was their full arsenal ?  Anyone think they haven't already dialed in other targets set to launch on short notice, potentially to include other Gulf states to further cripple global oil supply ?

In reality, this is a comparable threat, if not bigger, than their nuke program.  It disrupts economies deeply and globally, is not just limited to destruction at a nuclear impact site, and cruise missiles are way harder to find and destroy than a nuke facility or other nuclear weapons related infrastructure.  Iran attempting to block the Strait is more of a military air superiority type conflict they wouldn't win.  The damage they've demonstrated with cruise missiles has the potential to disrupt oil supply on a larger scale and for a substantially longer period of time than shipping blockade.  Proceed accordingly.

Bingo.

Geopolitical has increased substantially because of this.

Plug-n-play global oil supply disruptions at the whim of psychopathic fanatics with the disposition of an aligator with his asshole being sandpapered.

What could go wrong?

Not to mention the leaders in the Middle East.

Why not both.

The Saudi Energy Minister says they will be back fully online by end of September.  Is that really possible or is he just blowing smoke?

Byly Mumfiri is a simple desert boy. Some might say a cockeyed optimist, who got caught up in the dirty game of world diplomacy and International intrigue.

I'm not buying it.  They might be tapping reserves and other fields to try and make up the difference.   The images of that facility looks like major fabrication needs to be done to restore it to capacity.

Gas went up $.15 a gal overnight.

It’ll go up another $0.15 tonight. If not more - supposedly we are looking at “retaliation” and telling the Saudis that it was straight-up Iran with drones and cruise missiles.  Saudis supposedly have cold feet and don’t want to rush into anything.

Their bottom line is the motivator for them.  Those Lambos, Lears and weekend, western, party  junkettes aren't just going to pay for themselves.

Let me get this straight. Saudi has been fighting a war against Yemen in Yemen for years now with (I assume) USA sourced weapons. No one seems to blame Uncle Sam for the casualties. Now Yemen brings the fight to Saudi Arabian soil using Iranian made hardware and suddenly it’s all Iran’s fault???

Am I missing something?

Reminds me of the time a bunch of Saudi Arabians hijacked planes and flew them into US buildings. Uncle Sam was so pissed off at Saudi Arabia that we started wars with Afghanistan and Iraq.

why is everyone so focused on the crude oil price? they hit 2 refineries that together have the ability to refine 8MM bbls/day of crude.
for reference - the entire Gulf Coast can refine maybe half of that?

this is a distillate, jet fuel, gasoline, diesel, naptha, LPG, heating oil, fuel oil, bunker fuel or whatever else you'd like to call it - refined fuels are fucked. everyone keeps talking about how KSA's crude oil output should be back online soon, but uh, refined fuels ain't crude oil.

long Marathon and Valero. anyone know of any other public, US-based refined fuels companies not named Chevron or Exxon?

A lot of what was produced at that plant was slightly processed crude that was then shipped abroad for full refining.
