We brought 5 a ton against LSU. It didn’t work and gave up a ton of chunk plays.

We got 4 sacks against LSU.

And not everyone has their O line, Joe Burrow, and those receivers.

We have to get more QB pressure in the Big 12 than we did last night, and we should be able to.

Yeah and we got fucking burned over and over again for bringing 5 to get those 4 sacks on LSU. We still had a horrible pressure rate against LSU. Bringing more guys is not the answer.

If Orlando brought 5 a bunch last night, you’d be bitching all over this thread about our secondary getting burned and Sanders being able to escape the pocket straight upfield. Not every team has a WR like Wallace that commands two defenders almost every team, so Orlando will be able to bring more pressure against other teams, but the way he called the defense last night was the right choice against OSU.

We don’t have many plus pass rushers on this team and we don’t have the CBs to be able to bring 5+ rushers often, so we’re not going to be generating a ton of pressure all season. With our offense, the focus should be making opposing offenses earn each score with 10+ play drives.

I didn't say anything about his game plan last night.  I said the lack of consistent pressure all season has been the one valid criciticism of Orlando.  I also said on another thread that one bad game against LSU had everyone thinking the sky was falling with our defense when maybe it isn't.  So calm your tits.

I get not blitzing a lot last night.  Okie St has a mobile QB, so you blitz judiciously.  Same will be true of ou.  But there are a bunch of other opponents left to scheme for, too.

If you honestly think that rushing 3 guys the rest of the year is the right game plan, then let's just agree to disagree.

Since 2005 our defenses have had the following efficiency ratings.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings/_/year/2018/tab/efficiency

2005 - 85.0 (Chizik)

2006 - 71.5 (Chizik)

2007 - 64.5 (Akina)

2008 - 77.6 (Muschamp)

2009 - 89.1 (Muschamp)

2010 - 69.6 (Muschamp)

2011 - 81.9 (Diaz)

2012 - 58.7 (Diaz)

2013 - 70.2 (Robinson)

2014 - 81.9 (Bedford)

2015 - 66.0 (Bedford)

2016 - 61.2 (Strong)

2017 - 86.6 (Orlando)

2018 - 63.0 (Orlando)

2019 - 61.4 (Orlando)

Now for context, or worst year on defense was 2012 Diaz. The following years had worse offensive efficiency ratings than that defense.

2010 - 28.5 (Davis)

2011 - 44.7 (Harsin)

2013 - 54.9 (Applewhite)

2014 - 33.5 (Watson)

2015 - 41.6 (Norvell)

2016 - 48.4 (Gilbert)

2017 - 35.1 (Beck)

We could do worse than Orlando, we've done it on offense multiple times. Just about everybody is frustrated watching their teams try to play defense in this modern day college football era. We should be better than we are, but we aren't terrible. At least we are good at stopping the run.
