Erasing partially downloaded iOS Catalina on MacBook

Innocently followed the prompts to download the new Catalina iOS on my macbook.  It got about 15% complete before it froze up.  Now it won't let me cancel the download, nor will it finish it.  Just stuck in this ether.  I thought maybe I should remove the small downloaded portion and erase that whole initiated process and maybe that'll reset the computer to go back and recognize the download alert anew.  Because it certainly doesn't want to finish the download.  Or any other suggestions on how to get this thing out of its PC Load Letter jam?  THanks.
