Matt Canada. There's a guy I really struggle to understand why he's not employed. He must have worse halitosis than Matt Rhule and have a history of creepily watching his players shower. Does anyone have any insight as to why this guy can't keep a job? He was good a Pitt, had a great season at LSU, and was pretty good all things considered at Maryland.

No, if that was the case they would've found him a spot at Ohio St

Easier to get a P5 job with HC success. Look at PJ Fleck. He has a winning season in year 2 or 3 and he could be the next HC at UCLA

Fleck and UCLA mix almost as bad as Fleck and Texas would mix.  Yes, he's a good coach but his folksy shtick doesn't translate to a school where the culture and money run the show.  These programs are way bigger than he is.  Fleck would be another Charlie and Tom where he would find himself in over his head and then have a crisis of confidence when the shtick doesn't work.  Minnesota is where he should stay and become a legend there.  The money and alums at UCLA would eat him alive.

(My post was about Aranda...)

If Orgeron got a hit of the air raid heroin this year and wants to go all in, that is going to affect the defense long term similar to how it did this year. That would make Aranda's star tarnish a bit, so now might be as good a time as any for him.

This is exactly my thought.

now back to regularly scheduled lyrics

My dick bench pressed three fifty
Your dick couldn't shoplift at Thrifty
My dick, pretty damn skippy
Your dick, hungry as a hippie

Chip Brown / Horns 247 / Tuesday evening coaching (non) update

Spoiler

Tuesday, 7:15 pm - Tom Herman is in New York City for National Football Foundation Meetings as well as Vince Young’s induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

According to a source, Herman told some folks today he’s “in no hurry” in naming an offensive and defensive coordinator and is right now focused on recruiting heading into signing day (Dec. 18-20).
Meanwhile, LSU could also be looking for a defensive coordinator if the Tigers' current DC Dave Aranda (who Herman has known since their college football days together at Cal Lutheran) ends up getting a head-coaching job. A report by SI's Ross Dellenger linked Aranda to head jobs at UNLV and Colorado State. (Chip Brown)

I feel like recruiting would be easier with the 2nd and 3rd most important coaching positions filled. You know. To help you recruit.

I guess the only positive is the very small possibility that we will be stealing coaches from playoff teams

So where does Todd Bates stack up next to Brick Haley?  I mean if we are into putting DL into the NFL, he seems to do that pretty regularly.   I know his compensation for 2019 was about 170K less than Haley.  Seems to have an eye for talent and also a good recruiter, like Haley.

Another name to consider for OC is Kirk Ciarrocca.  He's put up some pretty solid number at Western Michigan and now at Minnesota.

So uh.. still no progress on the future shit show that will be Texas coaching staff? Bummer.

This will end well.

To be fair, if Texas was still Texas, we’d swing our big dick and get who we want. For whatever reason, we now accept sloppy seconds. Maybe Densa has a shriveled sack.

This is why in our heyday we had coordinator juggernauts like *checks notes* Greg Davis and Greg Robinson.

Another factor to consider on delayed announcements is if a Coach has a bonus provision in their contract that pays effective a certain date.  I've seen several instances of that being in December.  Like vesting options or bonus.

Don't flame, just trying to stay optimistic.

In fact, sources close to Aranda say the fact that UNLV has had such trouble winning is in part what intrigues him about the job. Those who know him say he is a coach who likes having mountains to climb. Having John Robinson, yes the same John Robinson in the graphic above, on LSU’s staff has to have been a good sounding board for Aranda during this process

Sources say Aranda is also encouraged by the commitments to UNLV has pledged to the program in terms of money for assistant coaches and support staff. The program will move into the Las Vegas Raiders’ (that’s going to take some getting used to) new stadium next fall and also recently opened a new facility.

He probably has a gambling problem and what better city to indulge yourself. Just kidding of course. Even if he likes to dabble in gambling a little, LV casinos beat the hell out of Laberge or Golden Nugget in Lake Charles.  I'm not a big proponent of casino gambling, but I would like to see Houston and Dallas get a few just to put the hurt on that crappy state of La.

Well considering Fillinger has been the only defection since the coaching purge, I would say Herman has the trust of the rest of the class right now.

Surly: mEnSa just gonna hire one of his friends with no due diligence and no real vetting of major candidates preparing for bowl games. It’s going to be a disaster.

Also Surly: Why is the coaching change taking so long?! It’s a disaster!

Surly: What is the point of having coaches who can recruit but not coach? It’s a disaster.

Akso Surly: We need to have hired people who can recruit by now, ya know, for recruiting! It’s a disaster!

Harrell followed Dajon Harrison and and another Texas commit (I think Hayden Conner?) apparently last night on Twitter. #Twitterscience bodes well for us

Level 1:  Ongoing negotiations include Harrell getting 10-20% annually for the next 30 years from our licensing agreements.  It will change coordinator contracts forever.
