Herman was able to make pretty damn good hires for a head coach trying to save his own skin.  We should be better coached on both sides of the ball.  These are upgrades over Beck and Orlando.

Does Yurcich do anything different in the run game than Herman?  Okie State seems to have also been a pretty straightforward zone running team, albeit with maybe more read option when they had mobile QBs than what we did with Sam this year.  And I don’t remember Okie State using the QB like a battering ram on straight, non-option runs.

Herman:  hey mike do you remember 2 years ago when you called a read option on the last critical third down and beat us?  Going forward that will now be a qb power.

Horrible game planning and play calling. Never gave the OL a chance.

Not sure how much input Coach Hand really had in the 2019 offensive struggles... happy Coach Hand is signing much better OL players for Texas.  Now he has to develop and get the most out of those 2019 and 2020 signees!!

Let’s play a game...name an assistant coach you believe deserves to keep their job and why?

Drayton because of Bijan

Drayton and Hand are really the only two that I would expect to stay, but I wouldn't be surprised if either were let go.

Yurcich's numbers at both tOSU schools say that he should be a home run hire. Did Yurcich have position coaches dictated to him at his last two stops? If so, this would be his first set of hires. Hope he does not make the Tom and Charlie mistake or maybe Tom is very involved with every hire that is made by Yurcich, we shall see.

Win win for Yurcich. Best case he leads us to 11 wins and a Big 12 Championship, and he leaves for a HC gig. Worst case he gets let go with Herman his staff but still collects on two more guaranteed years while chilling on the beach drinking pina coladas.

Yes - this is the first place where Yurcich has the leverage to make his own hires if he wants. I expect Tom will be heavily involved (and Drayton is likely safe).

Well considering OSU has always had a strong running game, I would say Yurcich was pretty good at coordinating it.

We ran the ball better and had more line yards in 2019 than in 2018.

This. Run blocking was great (Parker Braun was a big upgrade for our run blocking).

Pass blocking was fine - the issue was that Sam regressed a little and started holding on to the ball rather that running or throwing it away. Way too many of the sacks this year were on Sam.

Beatty was a good recruiter when he was the WR Coach on Sumlin's A&M staff, hence why KU hired him as Head Coach.

It's Beaty  (not Beatty)

If Herman wants Beaty on the staff, add him on as an analyst, not an on the field coach.  Otherwise it's just more comfort hire Bullshit...

It doesn't get discussed here much, but other schools have been strongly negative recruiting Herman's staff (especially the offense) for lack of diversity.  Mensa needs to consider that as he continues to hire the other new assistant coaches.

And I would argue much of Sam's issue was due to shitty WR play, brought about by shitty coaching.  Other than Dev we had no one that could get off the line with press coverage, run good routes, or get any kind of separation to provide Sam with reliable targets.  If no one can figure out how to get open his only options were hang on to the ball longer and hope someone finally does or throw into blanket coverage and risk an int.

And how exactly does an old wooden ship make our coaching staff better?
