Because Brady left? Nah they'll go money whip another big spread OC.

Maybe they'll lightly tamper with a QB they like, like that Wake kid that left a P5 starting job and walked right to Athens.

LSU is going to have the same problem Texas had - all of the truly great OC's are already Head Coaches.  You think Orgeron is going to be able to pluck another QC from obscurity and have him turn into college football's greatest OC, overnight - again?

LSU just had the perfect storm of OC/QB - and now both are gone.  I'm not saying they're going to suck next year - but there is no OC available that is going to vault LSU to the top of transfer lists like Riley does at OUsucks or Brady would have had he stayed at LSU.

the only thing I can think of is that they are going to actually moneywhip someone with an insane offer to come in and be "the man" - especially if Ensminger actually retires?

if they just roll forward and promote that analyst (Jorge Munoz) that 247 floated then yeah, they are going to have issues - but opening the checkbook for someone huge isn't outside the realm of possibilities, and Coach O is on way more solid ground that Herman so maybe throwing $1.5 for 3 years will pull Harrell or someone bigger/better?

I mean, you have to consider that the school and the state is poor. They never actually had to PAY Brady the 1.7 or whatever they proposed. They'd do it, of course, after seeing results and the windfall that comes with a national title. But who are they going to just throw 1.7 at now that makes sense for that money? It won't be an analyst? And who's the proven OC that's going to go there now? I'm not saying this isn't happening, but lets not remember this school and state is as bankrupt financially as they are morally.

A whole year? Well shit we're fucked!

That's all it takes - 9 months with Joe Brady and you too can successfully run the country's most explosive offense.  Sure you've still got that 70yr old OC who hasn't done dick without Brady running things - but now he has Brady's playbook.  Surely the production will be the same.

Matt Leinart took only ballroom dancing his senior year. It’s not unreasonable that a guy as a graduate transfer to LSU only had 1 class remaining.

Oh I knew about Leinart and his smaller class schedule too.  Just funny to me that some say scholarships are for education, but rules allow players who have graduated to keep playing football by taking only 1 class!

Right? I mean, who was Joe Burrow before Joe Burrow came along? And who was Myles Brennan before Myles Brennan came along?

next year they have

  • SO 4* Myles Brennan (#152 overall #6 pro style in 2017)
  • RS FR 4* Peter Parish (#313 overall, #11 dual in 2019)
  • TR FR 4* Max Johnson (#252 overall, #10 pro in 2020)
  • TR FR 3* TJ Finley (#494 overall, #20 pro in 2020)

They are in the running for basically every transfer QB, for good reason.

So, one who guy that will need to develop and whole bunch of meh.  Got it.

Myles Brennan had a year to learn the offense and still has all those WRs. He will likely light up Chris Ash's defense next fall.

He doesn't still have all of the WRs. He's losing Jefferson. You guys should research these topics before posting things that can be factually disproven.

Who are we guessing? Anybody?

I wonder if Carrington has any desire to get into coaching or if he prefers his current role. Being able to have him on the road 24/7 would certainly help with recruiting, but having no coaching experience may prevent this from being a legitimate option, even at TE. Otherwise, Carrier seems like the only previously mentioned name still available that might fit this position. Hutzler came out of nowhere though, so the hire could fit that mold.

All caveats aside about the legitimacy of the NCAA and their crack enforcement team, don't the rules about grad transfers state that a graduate transfer has to have "graduated" from his previous school (i.e. no "1 class remaining" Leinart type shit) and that he be transferring for "Graduate school", specifically a program not offered at his previous school?

I guess maybe LSU offers a very long-term graduate program in online studies with a course requirement of 1 class a semester.

Are there not also rules about scholarship athletes at least having to be "full-time" students?  I thought I remembered something about my student loans or scholarship stuff stating that I had to be a full-time student (meaning something like 12 credit hours/semester) to qualify.

I suppose that if a school didn't give a shit about keeping a player in their last year eligible then anything goes, as long as they don't mind the hit to their APR.

Carrington has said in interviews that he isn't really interested in being a coach - he likes the job he has and the opportunities to work with young people that it provides him.

TFB says TE coach will now be in place by the end of the week. No names thrown out

Dead period ends Thursday night.  TFB at one point said that a spot would be left open for Carrington to stay on the road - wonder if that has changed or if DT coach will stay open until NSD2.

I wonder if it's going to be Joey McGuire from Baylor, given the recent smoke that they're going for an outside candidate.

Yeah, I almost included that in the post. This does seem like his dream job, but he's young and pretty much at the top as far as that position goes. This, plus the benefit he could provide recruiting on the road, is the only reason I think there's a chance he's a potential candidate.

I would like that but I don’t think he would have already accepted since he is still in the running for the Baylor job.

Maybe Baylor has already told him he isn’t getting it ?

Lol who cares? He has the Biletnikoff winner Chase and  Terrance Marshall coming back and we are losing our only two reliable targets in Duvernay and CJ. Probably the best 1-2 WR combo in the nation.

Damn. You're right. With CJ and Duvernay out, Ash's defense doesn't stand a chance.

That was my thought.  Baylor's working on terms with Fuente, and they've told McGuire that he's not getting the job but they'd love him to stay.  So he immediately put his name out elsewhere.

This is a very good point. As every person that is even remotely knowledgeable about football always says, it’s not your QB, OL, or OC that makes the offense click, it’s two WRs and maybe a RB. And similarly, they’ll also tell you that if you lose your top two WRs, then your defense is doomed next year.

Something changed very quickly and you'd have to think it was good fortune on our part to have reversed course on the timing so quickly.

This is a very important point. During the part of the football game where our wide receivers line up against their wide receivers we may be at a disadvantage.

Brilliant insight as always, sir.

Dude didn't play college ball right? Not even sure how much high school ball he played. IIRC he was a college student and part-time waiter that somehow worked his way into a support role with Herman's UH teams. I know the guy's a huge plus on our team, but I don't want him coaching anybody about football technique.

How long will it be before people realize that doing something at a high level is not required to teach it at a high level?

This is not specific to Carrington as at Texas I want people who have proven to be good teachers, but whether or not the guy played college football will have jack shit to do with whether or not he could possibly be good at coaching technique.

fair point, and looking at the list of FEI's top offenses not sure who they can pull that is actually worth grabbing and is hot.

that said, offering $1.7 to Harrell, Kevin Wilson, etc has to be at least worth considering. Rumor now is that Joe Moorhead is now in the running too?

it is going to be interesting to see who they end up grabbing

LOL, LSU has a QB named Max Johnson. His parents have a great sense of humor. Dude has a career in porn if football doesn't work out.

Brad Johnson's son, Mark Richt's nephew, relation to Ron Jeremy is unclear
